Feds Seek Help From Google to Unlock Pimp’s Cellphone

Dante Dears went to prison in 2005 for pimping as part of a prostitution ring and was released last spring. Authorities believe he has started the nefarious practice again, but they need to get into his cellphone to prove it.

Feds Serve Google With Warrant to Unlock San Diego Pimps Phone

Dante Dears has been accused of "telephone pimping."

NBC San Diego reports that authorities believe Dears was using his phone to pimp women in the prostitution ring “Pimpin’ Hoes Daily” to get around GPS monitoring. Dears’ Android Samsung phone is one where the password requires entering a correct pattern. Too many attempts with the incorrect sequence caused the phone to lock. With Dears not cooperating, the feds have gone as far to get a warrant requesting Google help them crack the code.

Feds Serve Google With Warrant to Unlock San Diego Pimps Phone

A patterned password, such as this, was required to unlock Dears' phone.

Google, which owns the Android operating system, has said it will comply with the request but only after the warrant is authenticated. Watch the NBC affilate’s report:

NBC San Diego reports a media lawyer as saying Google would have no reason not to comply with the warrant, should it prove authentic.

Still, in the hypothetical scenario that it doesn’t, there could be the potential that the court might force Dears to input his password. In a recent case of a Colorado woman allegedly involved in real estate fraud, the authorities seized a laptop from her home with a warrant. The laptop was expertly encrypted. From there the feds petitioned the court to force Ramona Fricosu to unlock the device. Fricosu argued that she should be protected from doing so according to her Fifth Amendment right to protect herself against self-incrimination. Fricosu’s saga ended with her laptop being decrypted with a password provided to authorities by a co-defendant. Still the case brought up the constitutionality of the woman being order to open her laptop when the authorities only speculated evidence was on the device.

In Dears’ case, Google has said it is making sure the warrant “meets both the letter and spirit of the law before complying.” NBC San Diego reports local attorneys saying Google receives requests for its users’ information frequently but requires authentication of warrants to avoid getting sued itself.

On smartphone encrypted technology topic as much as I lové to hâte it, i purposely sabotaged myself by entering my wrong passcode 10x’s in a row to see if all my data could be recovered anyway and sad to say the answer is yes they actually hold onto it. So if anyone out there is playing 007 and think your phone will evaporate if it gets in the wrong hands you’re mistaken. I didn’t even call AT&T to tell them my phone got erased; The data just reappeared after a week. Talk about creepy. So even if you have this gentleman’s technology enabled on your smartphone…. And someone of a nefarious nature wants that data it can easily be retrieved. Double-Edged-Sword

I would tell the feds to shove it up their ass! We spend way too many tax dollars on crap like drugs and prostitution This stuff should be legalized and taxed. Social cons are the crux to preventing this type of commerce from happening. It kind of reminds me of prohibition — a bunch of religious zealots telling people what they can and cannot do.

Legalize it and let people do what they want to do. The strong will survive and the weak will die of disease and drug overdoses. We wont have to feed the losers while they are in prison….

Time to end the Paul campaign is a prime example of a social controlling neocon. He believes that people need to be regulated based upon the actions of the self (protect people from themselves). He is nothing more than a liberal in sheep’s clothing hence why he is a conservative and not a classical liberal. Conservatives and Modern day liberals should get together and come up with rules and regulations to protect people from themselves. That way we can have an utter and complete police state!

For a conservative, there can never be a libertarian option because the conservative understands the social contract. He learned this in fourth grade when he figured out his obnoxious behavior annoys others, and if he shoots off his mouth, he might get beaten up.

The conservative understands the relationship between rights and responsibility, liberty and license. He recognizes that individual behavior is not always a private matter. Sometimes it’s between you and society, you and your neighbor, you and the vulnerable. Sometimes your behavior is, in fact, somebody else’s business.

The conservative understands that laws have the power to order behavior and encourage civilized society. The libertarian loses sleep, believing that legal restrictions and social norms exist just to oppress him. He could not be more wrong. No one is thinking of him at all.

With all the libertarian emphasis on personal liberty, there is remarkably little attention paid to personal obligation. In fact, the notion of obligation itself is almost anathema: No one should be forced to do anything.

Extreme libertarianism accepts virtually no exterior restraint on personal liberty, and too quickly demonizes persons and institutions without foundation. “There shalt be no law against me” is the libertarian commandment.

For a conservative, there can never be a libertarian option because the conservative understands the social contract. He learned this in fourth grade when he figured out his obnoxious behavior annoys others, and if he shoots off his mouth, he might get beaten up.

What is socially conservative to one group may be taboo for another. This then prevents liberty by preventing the individual to do what they think is right. A classical liberal understands and respects law hence why the classical liberal supports the idea of “Your freedom to be you includes my freedom to be from you”. A classical liberal does not need various forms of crutches and or laws to be responsible, moral, and ethical.

The conservative understands the relationship between rights and responsibility, liberty and license. He recognizes that individual behavior is not always a private matter. Sometimes it’s between you and society, you and your neighbor, you and the vulnerable. Sometimes your behavior is, in fact, somebody else’s business.

An individual’s behavior is only someone else’s business if they are inflicting harm, not ideology and or behavior on someone else. If the actions are consensual and do not harm others, it is not your business. Prostitutes and pimps do not harm others – they only harm the individuals that are directly involved in it. One can argue, however, that it can be a burden on the community. If so, it should only be a local issue and not a federal one.

The conservative understands that laws have the power to order behavior and encourage civilized society. The libertarian loses sleep, believing that legal restrictions and social norms exist just to oppress him. He could not be more wrong. No one is thinking of him at all.

A classical liberal understands that laws have the power to promote bad behavior and illegal activities hence why there are drug wars and massive killings. A classical liberal also understands federalism and the right for the states to make up social laws.

With all the libertarian emphasis on personal liberty, there is remarkably little attention paid to personal obligation. In fact, the notion of obligation itself is almost anathema: No one should be forced to do anything.

No one needs to be forced to do anything as long as they are in the confines of state and local laws. Personal liberty is exactly what it means personal. Classical liberals are not anarchists, but are promoters of the Constitution and state rights.

Extreme libertarianism accepts virtually no exterior restraint on personal liberty, and too quickly demonizes persons and institutions without foundation. “There shalt be no law against me” is the libertarian commandment.

Classical liberals understand personal liberties and only demonize people and institutions that frown upon social activities that do not fit within their doctrine.

@THXll38…Good answer. I am kinda like Glenn,,,You are arguing with an idiot…

Libertarians believe you have rights to do anything until you harm another…your responsibility comes in when you HARM others…Example. If you sell drugs to a child…You fry. You get drunk or stoned and hurt someone…You get put under the jail. You rob someone to get drugs and you dont see the light of day for a very very very long time…You lose your freedom with irresponsibility. Keep your freedom as long as you are not a burden to others…

In Libertarian thought the laws are enforced an not there as a plea bargan or guideline. They say if you walk out of these responsibility lines, you are toast. Liberals want to bring in any little tiny law, like texting while driving (or now even walking) and enforce it. I would just allow no laws against texting and driving be free to do, but if you hrt someone doing so…You lose your liberty for a very long time (jail for you who are too stupid to know what that means) That would get the word out that responsibility is king. You screw up and you do not get to plea bargain because you were IRRESPONSIBLE….

Your sincere, heartfelt belief—if it happens to deviate from the libertarian view—is hopelessly flawed Libertarians will tell you. Doubtless you are being mind-controlled and don’t even know it. Even good manners are suspect. Be careful: Someone is about to take something from you.

Echoing the hippie drumbeat, libertarians are certain that a) The establishment is relentlessly gunning for you; b) Prostitution is a victimless crime (forget the ravaged families and the rampant disease; c) The federal government was wrong to impose civil rights laws; and d) The war on dangerous, illicit drugs has failed, so let’s just legalize everything. (The wars on rape, murder, marital infidelity and stupidity have also failed, but we all pretty much agree they should continue.)

The libertarian belief that it is always unconstitutional for the federal government to interfere in a state matter would effectively vacate the basic civil rights the constitution was created to protect. For example, there is a certain Republican presidential candidate, an obstetrician, who insists he is pro-life, but who would kick the abortion issue back to the individual states and let them decide which babies, in which states, will be allowed to live. So much for Ron Paul’s liberty argument.

I don’t know what to tell you. Your view of how the federal government works is beyond the mind of our framers which were indeed classical liberals. The federal government is only allowed to do what is within the enumerated powers of the Constitution. Anything more than that is infringing on state rights. I will personally admit that I am more anti-federalist than federalist; however, you seem to be more like a modern day liberal that wants more government instead of less. I am not a pure libertarian, but a mix of paeloconservationism and libertarian.

This is why I support Ron Paul and you most likely support Santorum. Ron Paul represents the true little r republican aka classical liberal. Ron Paul is also not a pure libertarian, but a mix of libertarian and classical liberalism. In today’s day and age, Ron Paul is the only choice for our country.
