Update: New Details of Alleged Homemade Drone Attacks Against Pentagon and Capitol

New details are emerging about the arrest federal authorities made of a 26-year-old Massachusetts man whom they claim plotted to pack remote controlled planes with C-4 explosives and mount simultaneous terrorist attacks against the Pentagon and Capitol building.

The suspect, Rezwan Ferdaus of Ashland, MA., was separately charged with attempting to assist Al Qaeda attack U.S. troops overseas.

Ferdhaus was arrested at his home yesterday after undercover FBI agents delivered materials to him necessary for his alleged terrorist plot, including what was supposed to be 25 lbs of C-4 explosives, 3 hand grenades and six fully automatic AK-47 assault rifles, according to Fox News.

The plot began in early 2010, when Federal Agents say Ferdhaus decided to wage Jihad against “the enemies of Allah.” A DOJ press release stated that the public was never in danger, as FBI agents monitored the subject closely.

Last May, Ferdhaus allegedly conducted surveillance of the Capitol and Pentagon, and planned to launch the drones from East Potomac Park. The Feds claim to have recorded conversations with Ferdhaus in which he discussed his intention to use remote controlled planes as explosive-packed drones guided by global positioning systems. The plan would have utilized three of these improvised explosive drones to ram into the Pentagon and Capitol, and also called for six other gunmen broken into two assault teams for an attack coordinated by Ferdhaus.

The terrorist plot in DC is not the only series of crimes for which Ferdhaus stands accused. According to Fox News, authorities also claim that Ferdhaus wanted to assist terrorist operations against U.S. soldiers overseas, which they said led to him to supply:

“Eight mobile phones to undercover FBI agents who he thought were recruiters for Al Qaeda. The phones were modified to be used as electrical switches for IEDs… used to kill American soldiers. Ferdaus also allegedly made a training video to demonstrate how to make more [of] the weapons.”

Ferdhaus had a technical background, as he graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Physics. When told that one of his modified phones was used to kill three and wound at least four U.S. soldiers in June, Ferdhaus reportedly said: “That was exactly what I wanted.”

Altogether, Ferdhaus is facing an array of federal charges that each could carry decades in prison, including attempting to destroy national defense premises and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

  They can be, and are, ‘anywhere.’ If this gov told the truth, Americans would be screaming for something to be done. There are terrorists living here and ingraining themselves into the fabric of our society. The cells are planning, and don’t mind how long it takes to accomplish their goal of bringing this nation under control of Islamic, or UN, or whatever control it can.

  Mohamed Atta’s apartment in sleepy Venice FL was just down the street from the old Ringling Bros winter quarters. I guess clowns and terrorists do go together. Atta and friends (not just the other two who trained to fly here) were quite comfortable in small town America. I remember seeing them fishing out at the jetty. They can be anywhere.

The way to stop terrorism is for the enemy to fear you. Extreme fear will be the greatest deterrent.

As for this puke, living in his ‘compound’ in taxachussets, decapit*te him on live TV and air it internationally. Say “Another Muslim terrorist has been killed, and sent on his way to allah. Who’s next?” Stop allowing them to glorify the act of terrorism. Show them the pain and suffering and they will not be as brave. Show their mothers the pain and suffering and the lifetime wasted and they won’t be so bold. Show their leaders we do have the guts. But …

I guess it’ll have to be the next president who has the guts … hurry-up 2013 …

Either this lost soul payed alot of money or very little money for his RC jet. The one on the front page of The Blaze with the gray fuselage and yellow wings is a F-86 turnkey jet kit from BVM jets in Florida. They are very very expensive. Close to 5000 dollars. And no, they aren’t sytrofoam. They’re carbon fiber, kevlar, fiberglass, titanium, and have gas turbine engines. They can reach speeds just under 200mph. They’re more like 1/7 scale

In this article, the F-86 model pictured with the dragon on the fuselage is a Styrofoam ready to fly kit commonly made by several makers. They are cheap. Less than 200 bucks, and will not fly anywhere close to the speed of the other jet and closer to 1/18 scale.

If he’s packing explosives, I’m more inclined to believe he bought the former. There’s no way a little electric fanned styro RC plane could carry that kind of weight compared to turbine power.

Either way, he is a lost soul in need of the one True Savior – Christ

  Wow, didn’t even carch they were different photos, but when I read what you wrote, I looked back at the original pic on the Blaze. I tend to believe the first photo (on the Blaze) as opposed to the one included in this article. This one looks like a stock photo, while the other one looks like it was taken at the scene.

  Big difference between true Christianity and the cult known as Islam. If a Christian strays in his/her faith with God, we pray for his/her return to the flock where there is safety. If a Muslim strays from his/her “faith” that person is branded as traitor and is cast out and cannot return or is persecuted up to death in many cases. The God of Christianity took all the burden of salvation for man on Himself and gives this freely as a gift. There is not on scintilla of selfishness on the part of Christ because the entire work of salvation was accomplished wholly by God Himself. Pentagon windows are bullet proof. The model, mostly made of styrofoam would shatter on impact. The explosion’s force largely hitting re-enforced concrete. I may have injured or killed the people in the office, or not. Strategically a waste of time.

Are they serious? Model airplanes for a terrorist attack? Have you ever seen the movie Independence Day where they fire all the rockets at the alien craft and they all hit the shield and explode not even leaving a dent? I’m pretty sure it would look something like that. The Pentagon is the world’s largest office building with over 6.5 million square feet of floor space. Flying a model airplane into the pentagon would be like firing a single shot from a BB gun into the front of your house. Not to mention the fact that the building is made out of limestone. I’ve seen rather large model airplanes hit a person, and while it knocked them off their feet, it did little else.

  Yes, the pentagon is a reinforced structure, and 4 pounds of c-4 would do little damage to it, BUT, there is a large open area inside the walls of the pentagon, and plenty of people travel through it every day. Think a bit outside the box, why not go for the soft targets, instead of a hard target……….

The sad part about this story is now the government will spend millions on a trail that will take years when we all know he is guilty, we should stand him against a wall and shoot him, in doing so we should also put it on TV as a warning to anyone else who is thinking about doing this here.

  Fav and jim i am sick and tired of people crying about the perp’s rights, WE HAVE HIM ON FILM we have eye witnesses who gave him C4 and other weapons, so dragging this out for years only serves him being able to get in front of news cameras to making statements against America.
  
  Yes we should give him a trail i never said not to, but make it swift since we have a overwhelming amount of evidence. So yes i want swift justices then a quick and FINAL ENDING.   Another case in point is people who set on death row in our country for 20 plus years, my question is were is the justice for the victim while they wait for those 20 plus years for justice to be serviced. These R/C aircraft that guys build are poor mans drones thats for sure in the eyes of the govt. You can be sure the govt is way ahead watching them all after today. I have seen full scale replicas of fighter jets (with jet engines), onboard cams, some of the R/C’s actually fire “rockets/missiles” (aka mounted fireworks). I saw a jet powered R/C helicopter that looks the like old tv show Airwolf where the owner stated “3 chamber rocket launcher on the bottom of the heli that will fire any .22 caliber type cartridge” but he hasnt tried it out yet.
