Female Protester Raped at Occupy Philadelphia Camp, Suspect in Custody

A man was arrested near the Occupy Philadelphia camp Saturday night after a female protester reported to police she was raped in a tent.

According to police, the rape occurred around 7:45 p.m. Saturday at the Occupy Philadelphia encampment where tents have been set up at the city’s Dilworth Plaza for more than a month. Afterward, the woman walked to a nearby pay phone and called 911. The suspect, also believed to be associated with the Occupy movement, was apprehended in the vicinity a short time later, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Police said the victim is a 23-year-old woman from Atlantic City, N.J., and the alleged rapist is a 50-year-old man from Michigan but who has a Pennsylvania address as well. His name has not yet been released, but he reportedly has been arrested a number of times for a string of armed robberies in Michigan.

The victim received medical attention and police cleared the plaza where protesters have been gathered while a crime scene unit and special victims unit investigated.

“The mayor is fully aware, the police commissioner is aware,” said Lt. Ray Evers told local ABC affiliate WPVI-TV. “The scene is being held and processed. The person is in custody and is being officially identified and processed, and by tomorrow, we should have his picture out.”

Sexual assaults and other violent incidents have been reported at a number of Occupy Wall Street camps around the country, though Philadelphia’s has been fairly peaceful, according to WPVI.

The movement has been criticized for its response to sexual assaults, particularly at Occupy Baltimore where it distributed pamphlets discouraging victims from coming forward to the police, instructing them instead to report incidents to the “Security Team” which would “supply the abuser with counseling resources.” The encampment has since revised its reporting guidelines.

What strikes me as very telling about these OWS events is that the “alleged” rapist felt safe enough to just hang around and not flee the scene. He felt “safe” among these OWS people and stayed there. You would think that after committing a crime the criminal would flee. Not here. He’s among friends.

These so called counsellors and ows security teams need to be brought up on charges for interfering with a police investigation and harboring a criminal, also operating without a license.
Their actions are criminal even when they trying to do good in their eyes.

In this case it was sexual favors. If you hear about a local bank being robbed – you stay home or go to join in and possably be shot by the police.

At the risk of being labeled insensitive the first thought I had after having read this story was something my mother would say to me when questioning any acquaintance of mine who she perceived to be of questionable character .“When you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas”. It’s difficult to feel compassion for any semi intelligent person who subjects themselves to such a volatile and dangerous situation. Self preservation dictates better judgment. I’ll save my compassion for the children and animals that are victims of neglect and abuse. They have no voice, they have no choice.

Men who rape have deep seated problems that go far back into childhood, which require extensive psychotherapy, and even then, in the case of corrupted types and serial rapists, it doesn’t mean their personalities and criminal behavior can be stopped or reversed. It depends on the individual.

Thinking that “counselling” is going to correct a serious problem is about as naive as thinking that putting a bandaid on an open cancer will stifle its growth.

These avowed radical leftists are the same types who are deeply entrenched in academia and who naively expect counseling to be the remedy for many things that require far different solutions or none at all.

A good portion of these people act and think the same as young children would and are just plain silly.

The funny (funny strange, not funny Ha-Ha) thing about TB is it could take time after a person is exposed to show signs of the disease. By than the person (s) who have TB will have spread it all around. TB is transmitted by; talking, coughing, sneezing, and singing (I know that last one sounds wierd, but it’s what I was taught in Nursing School). I used to administer TB testing, among other tests, to people applying for citizenship. Some of these people had been in this country for more than two years. The Immigrations Physicals are not manditory upon arrival into the U.S.A. It‘s no wonder we’re seeing an upswing in contagious diseases that were once eradicated from the U.S.A. I get tested for TB every year since I was exposed to it during testing of Immigrants while working as a nurse. Believe me, I‘m always worried I’ll show a positive.

Which makes sense because OWS is all about not taken personal responsibility for oneself.. She handed that over to OWS when she choose to be there.. We can all see the sad results for her by choosing to do that.. Nice job OWS..
