Feminist Academic: Jesus May Have Been a Hermaphrodite

Dr. Susannah Cornwall Says Jesus Could Have Been a Hermaphrodite in Intersex & Ontology, A Response to The Church, Women Bishops and Provision

In a move that will likely elicit ire in some quarters, and perhaps merely scoffs in others, feminist academic and “theologian” Dr. Susannah Cornwall thinks it is impossible to know “with any certainty” that Jesus was male, and that he may have in fact been a hermaphrodite.

She cites “conditions” which would have given Jesus a body which “appeared externally to be unremarkably male, but which might nonetheless have had some ‘hidden’ female physical features.”

According to The Telegraph, her comments were published in response to an ongoing debate in the Church of England about allowing women to become bishops.

In her paper “Intersex & Ontology, a Response to The Church, Women Bishops and Provision,” the feminist maintains that it is impossible to know for certain that Jesus did not suffer from an intersex condition by having possessed both male and female organs.

“It is not possible to assert with any degree of certainty that Jesus was male as we now define maleness.

Dr. Cornwall, of Manchester University’s Lincoln Theological Institute, describes herself on her blog as specializing in, “Research and writing in feminist theology, sexuality, gender, embodiment, ethics and other fun things like that.”

Further, Cornwall asserts that the fact that Jesus is not recorded to have had children was suspect.

She also said that since “we do not have a body to examine” it can only be that “Jesus’ masculine gender role, rather than his male sex, is having to bear the weight of all this authority.”

    If Jesus was a Muslim Jesus I would then be authorized to say “off with Susannah’s head”, but being that I am a Christian and a follower of jesus, then I must turn the other cheek? This Christian bashing is getting very annoying, to say the least. Unfortunately, if Christians became violent we would be “nailed to the cross”, by liberal America. All we can do at this point, is to ask Jesus to forgive these sacriliges morons.

      If she is basing her premise on a picture similar to the one with the article, she is truly a nutjob. There is no picture of Jesus. What passage in either the Catholic or Protestant bible gives any indication of Jesus sexuality. None. For believers, we know we are made in the image and likeness of God. I figure HIS SON is the same.

    Next thing we will hear is “Jesus was a space alien” Please grow a brain. Jesus was asexual not by choice but because he had to keep himself “pure” in order to make himself a living sacrifice. But he was obviously hetersexual because he love Mary Magdalene a lot and she was his very close friend. Jewish law stated that men were to be married and they were very strict about it in ancient times and frown terribly on divorce. I firmly believed Mary Magdalene acted as his “betroth” in order to keep Jewish authority at bay.

      I guess so people of faith will realize just how sick this world is. Part of the blame is those that have had a rampant case of “raptureitis” a unique Christian condition where as the world got darker and darker, sicker and sicker some rejoice in a quiet self satisfied glee that the end is near and they won’t be here but will be raptured out. So called ethicists debating abortion outside the womb (murder), a tolerance of every type of depravity.     So because we can’t prove he was male means he could have been part female? Even if that statement was true it wouldn’t prove anything. Hermaphrodites are rare as it is. Without proof this statement is meaningless.
