Fidel Castro: Republican Primary Is ‘Greatest Competition of Idiocy That’s Ever Been’

HAVANA (The Blaze/AP) — Fidel Castro lambasted the Republican presidential race as the greatest competition of “idiocy and ignorance” the world has ever seen in a column published Wednesday, and also took shots at the news media and foreign governments for seizing on the death of a Cuban prisoner to demand greater respect for human rights.
Castro’s comments came in a long opinion piece carried by official media two days after Republican presidential hopefuls at a debate in Florida presented mostly hard-line stances on what to do about the Communist-run island, and even speculated as to what would happen to the 85-year-old revolutionary leader’s soul when he dies.
Cuba has become an important issue as the candidates court Florida’s influential Cuban-American community in an effort to win the biggest electoral prize so far in the primary season.
Castro said he always assumed the candidates would try to outdo each other on the issue of Cuba, but that he was nonetheless appalled by the level of debate.
“The selection of a Republican candidate for the presidency of this globalized and expansive empire is – and I mean this seriously – the greatest competition of idiocy and ignorance that has ever been,” said the retired Cuban leader, who has dueled with 11 U.S. administrations since his 1959 revolution.
Castro also disputed international media accounts about the Jan. 19 death of Wilman Villar, a 31-year-old Cuban prisoner, saying the man was not a dissident and not on a 50-day hunger strike as human rights groups and the island’s opposition claim.
Castro reiterated the government’s contention that Villar was a common criminal sent to prison for domestic violence, and that he received the best medical attention possible. Washington and several European governments have condemned Cuba for his death, and Amnesty International says it was about to put Villar on a global list of prisoners of conscience.
Villar has become a cause celebre for opponents of the Cuban government, but he was not a well known figure, even among island dissidents, before his death.
Republican candidate Mitt Romney said during Monday’s debate that Villar died “fighting for democracy” and that his death highlighted the need to remain firm on Cuba. Washington has maintained a near-50-year trade and travel embargo on Cuba.
Another Republican candidate, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, said he would authorize increased covert operations to bring down the Cuban government. And at another moment of Monday’s debate, Romney and Gingrich sparred over whether Castro’s soul would go to heaven or hell.
When asked what he would do as president if he found out Castro had died, Romney said he would first “thank Heavens” that the bearded revolutionary had finally “returned to his maker,“ to which Gingrich replied ”I don‘t think Fidel’s going to meet his maker. I think he’s going to go to the other place.”
Castro didn’t refer to the comments specifically in his opinion piece, saying that he was too busy with other things to waste any more time analyzing the Republican competition.

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 4:33amEvery day it becomes more and more clear who this administration is aligned with. And more and more it becomes very clear just how stupid the American people are for voting for a commie. This is especially true since so many Americans have sacraficed and fought and died against the very commies we have running our country. Damn Americans are just so selfish and stupid. With all this administration has revealed about itself it is amazing that this president doesn’t have a 1 or 2 percent approval rating. Instead he still remains in the 40s. WOW.

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 9:23amIt is actually called white guilt, liberalism, and racism. Why are 85-90% of black folks still supporting the POS in charge? Ask one and wait patiently for a decent, real world response… Keep waiting. Don’t ask a liberal unless you have on steel toes.

That being said, I am an ABO and will vote accordingly.I really wanted Mitch Daniels to run but that didn’t happen soooo I will have to live with what was handed me .As far as Castro’s opinion is concerned it means nothing. The guy is more than half dead and one hundred percent stupid. I hope to turn on the Blaze tomorrow and see that he’s dead. I’m just saying and praying… :o}

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 12:46amRead up on how Joseph Smith translated the golden plates and you will wonder how anybody could think someone who could believe in that crap is “smart.”
Gingrich has had multiple affairs and left a cancer stricken wife to be with someone else. All he has to say is “I asked for forgiveness with God” and people look right past it with the illogical thinking of “well no one is perfect.” His own party hates him and while he has a lot of ideas, he can’t keep from shooting himself in the foot.
Rick Santorum equates homosexuality to having sex with animals and also believes that birth control is immoral. He thinks people who don’t believe as him should be forced to live their lives based on his biblical law.
While I agree with Ron Paul on a lot of things, he also believes in a God so it’s hard for me to take him completely serious.
The Presidency is up for grabs and sadly this is the best the Republican party can come up with?

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 12:59amYou idiots against Ron Paul always find something to disagree, therefore not vote for him on, that is insignificant. What a damn shame, we could have save our freedoms but everyone has their panties in a bunch and can’t handle the truth.

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 1:08amActually the translation story is quite a bit more complicated and deserves further review. It is wiser not to be flippant with history. To be honest, given what I have learned, understand and believe, it is you who now appears to be deficient in understanding. But I will assign this to ignorance (the root word ignore is a verb, as should be noted.)
Try mormon.org, or the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious studies for further references and a wealth of information regarding the peculiarity of the Book of Mormon, its import, and its miraculous tenacity at hitting the nail on the head as regards doctrine, cultural history, and evidence for its veracity.
We all believe, as should any Bible believing Christian that ultimately the truthfulness of scripture is a personal knowledge granted by God in a manner only understood by the recipient. Having said that, I understand fear as well. The Book of Mormon and those who believe in its divine preservation and coming forth in these “last” days have been demonized for nearly two centuries. Yet it still stands and so do its defenders. For those who are clinging to their Bibles in a defensive posture mistakenly believe that it is an either/or proposition. We, on the other hand, are grateful that we have both the “sticks” of Judah and Joseph to testify of Christ, his mission and Atonement. The wealth of scriptural record brings us peace and a unity of faith.
At least read the text before dismissing it with prejudice.

My problem with Mormonism is the same as Christianity. I actually HAVE read the books.
And to say that you believe in Jesus just like Christians do is worthless to me, because I think they’re crazy too.
