      Bull Connor sounds a lot like Al Gore’s dad. Eugene Connor was member of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan in the 1920′s. Connor entered politics as a Democrat in 1934, winning a seat in the Alabama Legislature. As a legislator he supported populist measures and pro-union issues. Yes, Ol’ Bull would have had a place at the dinner table in the Gore house.

      The surest sign that someone does believe in what they say is if they refuse to engage in substantive debate. If Algore truly believed what he says about global warming/climate change, he not only would not refuse to debate, he would actively seek such debate out.

      I gotta admit, that’s a pretty stupid analogy. Really stupid actually. Can’t blame anyone for the remarks on that. But boca_chica made a good point when he mentioned China. I just left China day before yesterday after spending a week there. You know what? I didn’t see blue sky, or the sun one single day, one single minute for that matter. Why? Smog from coal burning plants. The air stinks and has been compared to smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

      People who want to get rid of the EPA have forgotten that in LA, Denver and other US cities people didn’t see blue skies or the sun. They saw gray smog instead. Nixon – no liberal that’s for sure – headed things in the right direction by creating the EPA. You can see the skies now in those heavily polluted cities. Nice. And that’s the trade-off: millionaires and billionaire making even more money, or the rest of us living in with less pollution, and being able to see the sun, even the stars. You can make the billionaires richer by getting rid of the EPA if you want, but get a gas mask and extra insurance for your kids against lung cancer.

      Funny, I haven’t heard an Al Gore joke about snow lately. Any extreme weather in your neighborhood? Extreme heat, hurricanes, tornadoes?

Problem is, regulatory agencies aren’t accountable and morph quickly into menaces to society by mission creep and by belief in their own feeling of what Reagan called “immortality”. You‘re right that the EPA’s existence cleaned up major cities in the US, but now they set up weather monitoring stations in urban areas where they’ll get a heat bump from the pavement, air monitoring stations above bus terminals, classify plant food as a pollutant, and create new absurd standards when they outlive their usefulness because compliance has met the first ones.
      Here’s a revolutionary idea: how about instead we let Congress make laws? Spot checking enforcers would be good to keep around, but no more non-elected bureaucrats making rules–and Congress should build agency-dismantling language into legislation once targets are met, if it feels the need to regulate anything at all.

      You make a good point but Al Gore and the smog example in China are both on the extremes! You are correct that we need to make sure we could see the sun and our rivers and lakes aren’t glowing but we know that the reasonable left and the reasonable right balance off and keep each other in check. But when you get a soulless buffoon like Gore that wants to exploit global warming to control the population, spread the wealth, deindustrialize the US, impoverish the masses and destroy the right that doesn’t do anyone any good except for the billionaires left at the top! Or that the fact ice cores from the dinosaurs age had more CO2 in it then we have now. OR that the photos of the Antarctica ice melting that was taken in February was just a ploy because there is always less in our winter because it is summer there and that Antarctica is over flowing with snow and ice around August.

      Lincoln had to deal with such debater tricks that he said “how many feet would a sheep have if you called the tail a foot?” And the idiots like Gore would say five. Lincoln responded that it does not matter what you call the tail, it is still a tail. When Al Gore takes the position that he’s defending a civil right for a planet he is just plain stupid and vain. You can easily disprove global warming by greeen house gases solely by proving the earth is exotermic — releases more heat than it gains. Gains in heat would require a constant increasing surface temperature since the core is hotter and the new heat will not migrate there — ever feel a hot car door handle and think that your hand warmed it up even more? No, and that‘s why new heat could not warm the center of the earth where it’s even hotter. Also, here in AZ we are NOT SETTING RECORDS. And BTW this would be a SOLAR MAX year now. Check the temperature at your house about 3AM and at 4AM and just before sunrise. See if it stopped dropping. The truth is that when it stops dropping, then the heat from the core of the earth is providing a stasis — radiating out with no further drop. Since we can check this every morning and see very constant temperatures (not in inner city heat islands but out in the desert or on the farm) and it demonstrates we are not gaining energy into our atmosphere or on the earth surface. If you get to the point where you do not reach the stasis temperature by dawn then trouble ahe
