Finally! Take a Look Inside Boeing’s Giant 787 Dreamliner

It’s here.

Boeing has finally started rolling out its 787 Dreamliner airplane — what’s being hailed as the first new commercial planes of the 21st century — three years late and $32 billion later.

According to USA Today, the long-anticipated Dreamliner features the largest entryways, overhead bins and windows of any airplane on the market. Boeing’s Director of Differentiation Strategy Blake Emery, Boeing’s director is reported as saying these upgrades “improve harmony inside the cabin:”

“In the past,” said Emery, “things either worked or looked good. This plane is designed for both.” One of their favorite examples is the latch on the overhead bins. “Those can be confusing,” said Craver, “So we made latches that open if you push on the top or the bottom. Whatever is intuitive will open the bin. Part of improving the experience is eliminating things that make you feel bad.”

The plane also has a carbon fiber design making it more fuel efficient than traditional planes.

Now, thanks to Business Insider, you can take a look inside the jumbo jet:

Earlier this year, Dreamliner completed its maiden trans-pacific voyage to Japan to undergo testing from All Nippon Airways and Boeing will return Dreamliner Tuesday to Tokyo as ANA’s first completed plane. ANA is reported as saying it expects 55 more Dreamliners by 2017.

Take a look at Dreamliner’s first flight to Japan:

But well before tomorrow’s expected delivery, Wired reports, Boeing began training pilots who will fly these planes and it was all done virtually:

Anyone who’s flown a Boeing 777 can get up to speed with the 787 in as few as five days as the two airplanes share a type rating for pilots. A pilot with no experience in a Boeing airplane will need as long as 22 days to receive a type rating and master the 787.

No matter their experience level, none of them will actually fly a 787 during training. It’s all done electronically. There are no books to study, airframes to inspect or airplanes to fly. From learning about the airplane’s hydraulic system to making a virtual walk around pre-flight inspection to even learning how to take off, pilots learn everything needed for their type rating without ever even seeing a real 787.

The plane itself costs $200 million and about 800 have been ordered so far.

Obama and the Unions are ruthlessly attacking Boeing preventing them from building new factories in the USA. Boeing is what the USA is about, and Obama, well, he is about treason and being an enemy of truth, freedom, liberty, the US constitution and US sovereignty.

If everybody who flies would just stop doing so for two to four weeks in protest of the invasion of privacy, the invasion of privacy would either go away or the airlines would be out of business. The reason this will never happen is because the flying public and even most of the general public are cowards who don’t believe in freedom and liberty.

Let’s watch now to see how many planes are produced in Charleston compared to Seattle….Any bets on which plant will win? One Union ‘sick out’ in Seattle can stop the whole production line….And that will NOT void the bet!

I live in Wichita Ks and have actually helped build the 787. It is AMAZING. I can’t tell much about the process but to see it go from rolls of composite material to what i worked on, and the sheer size was awe inspiring. On the down side, drilling holes for fasteners in composite is nasty dirty work.

Thanks for showing us the Singapore Airlines’ interior. Now show us the South African Air, Delta, American, NW, Continental seat configuration in coach. Instead of 2-4-2 watch as it magically goes to a 2-5-2 or 3-5-2 configuration with those ever-so-comfy 16.5″ wide seats that only fit Philippinos.
Good luck, Brit’s, Germans, Americans, and Scandinavians.

Boeing doesn’t provide seats or cabin arrangement per se. Instead each airline provides the desired configuration as part of the purchase and Boeing builds to suit. If you fly with companies like Alaska Airlines you will mostly find reasonable comfort. The newer aircraft seem to provide more amenities.

The pictures may be deceiving. First class was not shown. Business class had the convertible seat, so the remaining picture had to be “worst” class as you called it. I thought the configuration was great. Every seat has one armrest you can call your own, and no one has to go past more that one person to reach an aisle. Of course there could be a more compressed seven or eight across version we were not shown.

    Unions are THIRD PARTY CORPORATIONS.

The UNION will not care if they are built in the U.S.A., or abroad. So long as the employees building it are UNION employees.

This is why unions do not work.

It is not collective bargaining that is the problem with unions.
The problem with unions is, they are their own corporation with their own employees and their own motives. They do not represent the employees as they were intended, but, rather, they have their own, independent agenda.
There should be ONE union per employer. The union reps should be employees of that employer, and should be on the payroll as any other employee, benefits and all.
This would cause the negotiations to be truly representative of the employees. It would allow a FAIR negotiation between TWO parties, not THREE.

Well said. That is exactly the problem with these unions today. They are nothing but money stealing machines and do not represent the best interests of the employees. What good is a union to you when their policies force a company to close shop and leave the country. Just look at the steel industry as an example. How many good American jobs were lost because of the unions? How many steel plants are now vacant in this country. Entire towns became ghost towns when these mills closed.

The most important part of the 787 is the new wing. It’s made from a large single piece of composite laminate. It outperforms aluminum wings on every test and Boeing is the only mfgr in the world with the capability of producing such large structures in a single piece. It is a revolutionary airfoil for airliners, but commonplace for experimental high performance aircraft. The 787 also has some new ultra-high-bypass fan jets. Very fuel efficient.

It‘s a beautiful airplane and although it’s hard to top the 777, this plane has done just that. The interiors are modified often to improve air travel, but the 787 goes further than that with a high humidity interior and less in-cabin pressure which makes the flight more comfortable. Thus, less jet lag. Not to mention the technological advancements and efficiency of this airplane are game changers for the airline industry. The ANA 787 website does an excellent job of highlighting what makes the 787 the airplane to fly: .

It’s unfortunate that the Unions represent only 8% of our working population. When they represented upwards of 30%, we actually had an employed middle class. Now we have a race to the bottom, who will work for $2 and hour and no benefits? Non Union work is taking us back to the 18th century when there was no middle class. Just the rich and the working poor. Too bad people are too dumb to see the truth of what the Corporations are doing to our country.

Much of these sorts of aesthetic changes are already being made to the existing 777 fleets for international travel. The increased head room in the cabin, better lighting, etc. – it does make for a more comfortable trip. But, I do wonder how much of a difference the 787 design will be and if it will truly be a vast improvement over the modified 777′s.
