‘Fire in the Sky’: What Formed This Streak That Lasted 20 Minutes in the Australian Sky?

Those in Perth, Australia, were enraptured by what is believed to be a meteorite trail left after the ball of fire allegedly fell into the ocean. Perth Now reports the streak remained in the sky for 20 minutes before dissipating.

According to Perth Now, the streak was seen just before sunset on Friday evening. The publication contacted a spokesperson for the Bureau of Meteorology who could not confirm if it was or wasn’t a meteorite, and neither the Perth Observatory nor Astronomy WA responded with a comment.

Perth Now reports onlookers debating what could have caused the streak. Local resident and manager of a cafe Daniel Jongue said “it looked like vapor. It was red, orange and yellow and quite beautiful.”

According to Universe Today, meteorites can leave streaks in the sky that last for more than a minute.

What do you think? Could this have been caused by a meteorite or was light simply reflecting off of water vapor in clouds?

    Looks like a contrail or other vapor trail reflecting the light of the sunset to me. We see contrails from aircraft flying at high altitude every day, and many of them get spread out due to the high altitude winds and can stay visible for quite a long time.

      I disagree with the notion that it could be a contrail and that contrails last for long periods of time. I would direct you to you tube and search for Chem trails , there is a great deal of information on the difference between contrails and chem trails. I am also highly suspicious of the substance being released into our atmosphere by jets with nozzels clearly seen on the aft wing and rear of the craft.
      So look further into the issue, it is all on youtube..

    A very large chemtrail… are they poisoning the waters now?? Conspiracy theory or not.. Go out and spend a hour or so watching the trails out of airplanes.. where I live I notice they turn them on as they re coming over inhabitable place, then I notice they shut them off when they get past them.

    No people, it is very much real…i’ve seen something like this before and it was formed by a chariot which you would call an ufo…These falling angels which you people fail to believe exist are called demons…but I really don’t care if you believe it or not….do your own research…

    Personally it looks like the sun reflecting off of a contrail left by some objects passage. It could be a small meteorite or orbital debris that entered the atmosphere. Not enough information though to be sure.

    If anything, maybe the mothership of Pelosi crashed again.

    It looks very much like it could have been photo edited. Not knowing that for sure however, I would guess that a meteorite could have made it but is it stupid to ask why a meteorite trail would linger 20 minutes or why it would disperse and grow wider?

    Looks like a typical contrail to me

    It’s also an optical illusion. Because of the curvature of the Earth it only looks like it is heading toward the water.

    It could be lots of things. Without a reference to whether it is just a high cloud trail made by a plane or if it makes it to the ground like a rocket trail. Meteors can have lasting con-trail also.
    Read Demon Haunter World then decide.

      I don’t think that was a meteorite. After watching som that were caught on tape. The trail did not last long behind them. Space Junk ? Who knows .

      Possibly illegal aliens, then? This last week very popular for people smuggling boats arriving off WA coast (usually via Indonesia) – and more recent tragedy for asylum seekers who risked travel with these people smugglers when another boat capsized near Christmas Island and 25 feared drowned (150 on board). A majority of the boat people coming from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan. They don’t like to go to Malaysia because they get flown back to the country of origin.
