Fireworks Explode at NH Home, Injuring 9

July 4th is a day that many families celebrate with fireworks, sparklers, BBQs and a plethora of other related activities. While it’s a fun-filled time of remembrance and appreciation for the United States’ founding, a few of the aforementioned activities must be approached with care, as dangers are more than possible. This was evidenced on Tuesday night, in Pelham, New Hampshire, when nine people were injured after fireworks allegedly exploded inside of a home.

WHDH-TV –

Right now, details are still coming in, but the resulting explosion was put out by firefighters who arrived at the scene around 7:30 p.m. Among those injured were three children — two of whom were transported by helicopter to Boston hospitals following the incident. Five others were taken by ambulance for local treatment. Police claim that “a large amount of fireworks were located in and around the home.”

WMUR-TV in Manchester reported that the fireworks ignited on the home’s back deck. The outlet continues with more details:

“The extent of their injuries was moderate to minor, and the two pediatrics were severe,” said Pelham Fire Chief James Midgley.

The ensuing fire damaged the back of the home. Fire officials said it was unclear if the group planned to set off the fireworks Tuesday or if the fireworks somehow caught on fire.

“From what we understand, there were fireworks on the back deck and they somehow ignited,” Midgley said.

Neighbor Richard Souza, who lives on a street behind the home in Pelham, a town of about 13,000 residents an hour drive south of Concord, said the people who live in the home set off fireworks every year for July Fourth.

He said there seemed to be a lot of fireworks going off Tuesday night and soon after fire trucks roared into the neighborhood and firefighters turned their hoses on the home.

“It sounded like they were squirting the house down,” Souza said.

“I heard — it sounded like a million gunshots, and I thought maybe they were testing it, and then I saw the huge mushroom cloud and I was like, ‘Oh man, that can’t be good,’” added neighbor Taylor Jackson.

The adults’ injuries are described as moderate to minor, while the two children, authorities say, sustained severe injuries.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Oh my gosh! That poor family! I pray everyone is ok, especially the children.
Sine the kids had the worst of the injuries, it sounds like maybe the kids were trying to “Sneak off a couple” of the fireworks without the adults knowledge or permission.
That’s such an awful consequence for kids fooling around.

I pray for healing in the name of Jesus Christ for this family , Lord touch the children and give the Doctors the knowledge they need. And thank you Lord for the brave firemen and women that responded to this fire and all the fires this holiday.

I hope the injuries of these children are not permanent, as in blindness or lost limbs. Fireworks displays are beautiful, but even professionals are injured or killed by accidents. Our city commission, in response to yearly complaints, has tried to limit hours to no later than midnight, but unsuccessfully. The 100+ degree temperatures have left our region a tinder-box, so hopefully people will exercise some common sense.

AT a Cincinnati reds game a few years back, one of the home-run fireworks specialists was killed.

About 10 years ago, our town was in the middle of our annual firework display when the barge caught fire. It was pretty tense there for a few minutes, but the firefighters managed to contain it.

Fireworks are not toys. They are not sparklers. They are basically large amounts of gunpower and chemicals in cardboard tubes. I’ve been absolutely baffled in the past to see people I know who are dead set against firearms handle fireworks casually as if they were simply a roll of caps for a cap gun.
The Grucci firework company that produces some world famous fireworks allows no synthetic, no metal and only cotton clothing on their workers but they still experiences a catastrophic fire one year that killed two employees. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireworks_by_Grucci

I sincerely hope and pray that the injured recover rapidly and completely.

Fireworks were just legalized here in Maine. Lets hope the liberal jackasses in Augusta don’t use this as a reason to overturn that.

“Then I saw the huge mushroom cloud…”

Embellish much? Either that or cherry bombs are back and now come packed in lead boxes…
