First GOP Presidential Debate Cancelled

The first GOP presidential debate set for early May has been canceled due to lack of interest…from candidates.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation announced that it’s moving its “Reagan Centennial GOP Presidential Primary Candidates Debate” from May 2 to Sept. 14, 2011. The reason? Not enough big names have declared their candidacy, and therefore the foundation is struggling to secure participation.

“Although there will be a long and impressive list of Republican candidates who eventually take the field, too few have made the commitment thus far for a debate to be worthwhile in early May,” said John Heubusch, executive director for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, in a statement. “The Reagan Foundation’s first Republican presidential primary debate will move to the fall, allowing enough time for the full slate of candidates to participate.”

Politico, NBC, and Telemundo are also sponsoring the foundation’s debate.

The first debate of the presidential season now belongs to Fox, which is sponsoring one on May 5 in South Carolina.

This is how I see it. if you have a Tea Party candidate, a Republican and one Democrat candidate it really makes it hard for a conservative to win in a general election because the conservatives are divided and the democrats usually aren’t. That’s why I feel the establishment Republicans and the Tea Party should of like mindedness and just be one party. But good luck with that happening as we have progressive republicans that really dislike what the Tea Party stands for. Sad really.

Yes. Whether you like it or hate it, we live with a two party system and there is not enough of a base to support a third party. Successfull third parties only come about by the collapse of one of the major parties. That hasn’t happened since the Whigs collapsed over the slavery issue back in the 1850s.

The only effective startegy for the Tea party is to take over the parties that exist. this has begun successfully at the state and congressional level, but it is far from finished. When it comes to the Presidential election you vote your conscience in the primary to choose the best of the party closest to your philosophy. Once the primaries are over you will have a choice between two candidates who might win. Beck is dead wrong when he says you shouldn’t vote for the lesser evil because it is still voting for evil. Since Jesus isn’t running evil is all we have. All of us here on earth are evil and flawed. Vote for the one of the two possible candidates whose flaws will do the least damage.

islesfordian is correct and i have said as much in other threads and been called everything in the book. But you cannot escape reality. The only exception I would make is if the Republican candidate was a complete RINO with little chance of winning and the third party candidate was really the right person. Then I would go ahead and split the vote and hope enough people would follow suite. But the odds of that happening are slim. Polls will tell you if this is even a possibility.

I would vote Republican unless you just absolutely cannot stomach the candidate.

The Teaparty should be more along the line of the advocates for GOP candidates that they feel are close enough to their stands on issues and not candidates against GOP. If they insist on trying to be a party on their own they will create a situation that can only favor DEM candidates
We need to take control of the GOP and not try to defeat the DEMs at the cost of returning Obama to power if there is a 2012 election. look how unions are pulling the DEM’s strings
We need to think of ourselves more as ..Teaparties United for a Repiblican Nation (T.U.R.N)

You have to remember the Democrat’s voting base: yuppies who feel good about rasing taxes on people they’re jealous of, parasites, leeches and wards of the state. These people live to punish others for their successes and also vote for living. “This guy promised more free stuff, I’ll vote for him”

So, remember how long they waited until Palin was picked? Kind of last minute….why? The GOP knew they would go after her and the did, 30 attorneys went to Alaska, remember? They found the story about a SHP and Palin fired him over being abusive to his wife? They then found nothing on her but her husbands association with the AIP? So then what did they do, smeared her with lies and went after her family. My point and you knew I had one, why now? Wait till they have to by law….spring it on them. I want Cristy on that ticket so I can hear the left smear he is too fat or stupid like they always do……Campaign pedge; “Anybody but Oblamabush.” Elmer Fudd could win the GOP ticket and presidency….Nothing like a gun toting, wabbit hunter American…..Be very Quite….shhhh….I am unting wiberals……

alky: The democrats have been using REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY on the Tea Party people, and then standing back and LOL that it is working. It is an ole’ political game of intimidation using mind games on the opponents. They are trying to change the Tea Party image into something that it is not, saying what is contrary and the opposite of exactly what the Tea Party DOES STAND FOR. What they are doing is imposing their own rotten characteristics onto the Tea Party in an attempt to destroy it, and then taking the character and position of the essence of the Tea Party and acting as though they are the ones with the exemplary characteristics of the Tea Party. It’s all a game with the democrats, and they play the mind games well.
The Tea Party has a great following and have made a big difference in the politics of this country. After all, it was the Tea Party that greatly influenced the November 2, 2010 election. In order to destroy the influence of the Tea Party, the democrats have to destroy the direction that the Tea Party has taken the country in. They have become a foremost influential force and the democrats ARE AFRAID OF THE TEA PARTY; otherwise they would have left them alone. Their goal is to interrupt and hinder the SUCCESS OF THE TEA PARTY before the 2012 election. Their goal is also to make the work of the Tea Party of no effect.
The democrats tell us that the Tea Party is violent; yet we only find violence on the democratic left. When I think of both the democrats and the Republicans, I think of Glenn Beck’s Rally vs. the One Nation rally. I think you get the picture. It is the good decent Americans gathering to celebrate the good things about America: Honoring God, Country, the Constitution, and our values, principles, liberties and freedoms, vs. the riff raff and rabble of the One Nation rally with the communists/socialists/progressives/marxists. Which one presents the BEST OF WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE ARE…Glenn Beck’s Rally…I rest my case! :)

Presidential debates in May? No. May is too early and in fact, it is completely normal for candidates to not announce until summer – look for mid-late May or June for announcements. Everyone knew that the Politico/NBC (it was a dumb idea) would be cancelled and it is likely that the FOX May 5 debate will be cancelled as well. No debates will be held until the last quarter of 2011.

It seems we have the “ powers that be” attention Tea PARTIERS. This debate, and it’s lack of participants indicates this. How so? Because the RINOs are to afraid to run, and the good guys/ gals feel ill-equipped to run therefor are hesitating. This is actually a very good thing, even though the DemonRats will say “ we lack leadership and a plan”. It is good because when our candidates do announce, they will be STRONG, perhaps Mr. west or Mr. Christie. Irregardless of whom our candidate is , WE must VETTE them with fine tooth combs. Any more RINOs or liberals will be the finishing touch on our once great nation.

Michelle hasn’t formerly announced yet. I think Cain is the only one with any name recognition or face time on TV.

I like Michelle, but I think for a woman to win as a Republican she is going to have to be tough. So far Michelle seems too warm and friendly. She lacks that “don’t mess with me” quality that I think women will need if they are to appeal to red blooded conservative mena and woman who want a strong leader in the White House. The moon bats and ******** will always vote with their feelings and are guided by their hopes and dreams. Conservatives vote with their brains and are guided by what will GET THINGS DONE.

Michelle is right on all the issues, so she is fine as a legislator, but for a President we need someone with, well, balls. An Iron Lady who will stand with the men because the men around her aren’t man enough to stand by themselves. When Margaret Thatcher told Bush Sr. not to go wobbly on her it was like Debra slapping Barak upside the head. THAT’S the kind of woman that can win as a conservative.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Michelle will drop a pair on the campaign, and drop a few of her opponents too with a sound rhetorical punch. I’d like to see it. Heck, I’d like to see some MEN with balls runs too.

Sorry ladies. But it IS a man’s world, or it OUGHT to be. And we conservatives should only want men, and a few manly women, at the top.

I like Bachmann too, but IMHO she is too ideological. She has all the right stances and says the right things but she is prone to jumping the gun and saying things that maybe should have been better thought out. Of course she is human, but she is just too much of a player for me to feel she is honest.

OTOH, Palin does have all the qualities I am looking for. Number 1, she is a born again Christian and that means everything. I can overlook almost anything else in favor of that quality. She will not lie, at least not knowingly or without really good reason, such as national security. She is also smart enough to know her own limitations and she would surround herself with the right people.

But does she stand a chance? One year ago I would have said yes, but I think she has made some fatal mistakes such as the reality show, not boning up on world issues when she had the chance, not enough visibility on FNC added to the softball interviews they always give her…But her worst offense is her Facebook/Twitter vendetta against the Obama administration and any detractor that slights her in any way. I do not think she can overcome this damage. I think she realizes that and her low visibility now shows that she will not run.

      A real shame…

This just in the the first GOP debate will be held at the nearest Funny Farm. Bachmann, Cain and West, provided that they stay on their best behavior, will be allowed out of their straight jackets. Trump is still looking for his Birth Certificate before he can attend, Palin is wondering if she can post her answers the next day to facebook and twitter. Finally, Newt may or may not be in the middle of another divorce, yet again.

In the meantime Romney is attempting to see if he denies Mass. Healthcare law enough so that it no longer counts. While Huckerbee to tracking down out cop-killers that he pardoned.

Finally maybe these republican’s are smarting up. Don’t let the dems know whose running until later, less time for them to be beating up our candidates, while Obomber uses the ammo to slam them on the stump at colleges all around the country. It appears that the only people willing to listen to him now, are 1/2 brain dead college students.

This is really pretty simple. You can’t run for President of the United States on the platform of “I’m against whatever Obama favors.” But that is the current Republican platform. Gingrich and Palin favor a “no fly zone” then when Obama gets international support for that, and it’s implimented, then Gingrich and Palin are against it. The American people aren’t STUPID.

Republicans aren’t declaring because they know the they know they garner support by expressing opposition to President Obama. Once they declare, American will want to know what they are for, not just once they are against. Smaller government? What are you going to cut? You want lower taxes which increase deficits, what are you going to cut?

Republicans are hopelessly divided as far as what they are actually for. “Smaller government” sounds nice, but when you get into specifics there is no position that will get popular support.

There is no coherent, specific policy from the right on any issue. That’s why you never hear Palin or any other Republican take a stand except to say Obama is wrong. Sorry, Americans aren’t stupid. Can’t win an election that way.

The person that wrote the article is a little biased. His first sentence stating that it had to be cancelled due to “lack of interest” is totally false and misleading. Until the GOP candidates actually declare their candidacy, how can they speak at such a forum? That’s putting the cart before the horse. I think the author likes ‘donkeys’ a whole lot more, if you catch my political drift.

      @ jzs
You say that ‘no one should run for office by saying they are against anything Obama is for’? Well, that is exactly what Obama did in 2008. He had no specific plans to better America. All he could do was blame Bush for everything, and then promise very vague ‘hope and change’ without ever defining exactly what he meant by that. Obama was an expert at the doublespeak you are accusing GOP candidates of using now.

For some of the “candidates” declaring means they go off the Fox payroll. Declaring means answering the “birther” questions, having to be pinned down on actual policy issues…The adults have yet to enter the room in the 2012 Teapublican race to the top. Would you add anyone to this list of people who have either themselves made mention or others have suggested running: Bachmann, Barbour, Cain, Christie, Daniels, DeMint, Duke, Gingrich, Huckabee, Huntsman, Moore, Palin, Paul, Pawlenty, Pence, Romney, Ryan, Santorum, Trump, West Thanx for your feedback :P

      @ TROLLTRAINER

Before you can participate we will need to see your birth certificate, and a complete list of the political and social organizations you maintain memberships in!

The big dogs are seeing Herman Cain and Donald Trump, and now the politically savy are running for cover. My bet, this will be the first time that the “next in line” republican doesn’t make it, sorry Mike and Mitt, step aside for real men.
