First of Three Mega-Millions Winners Claims $200 Million Prize

Let it never be said playing the lottery doesn’t work out – at least one person has claimed winnings in the Mega Millions case, and it’s not the increasingly suspicious sounding McDonald’s employee who originally came forward. Rather, there’s a winner in Kansas, who has asked not to be identified, but has been given $157 million by the Kansas lottery. Had the recipient chosen to accept yearly installments, rather than a single up-front lump sum, their winnings would have been over $200 million.

Sounds like major fraud and all the citizens are being duped as usual. ALL winners need to be identified to assure the other winners werent ripped by people in charge of lotto.

If I were to win, I’d have my back against the wall while watching the government! Now days with everyone flat broke you can bet someone will be trying to cheat them out of anything that they can!

It’s so sad in this world when you cannot trust anyone for who they really are! I don’t think I would ever let anyone know, live in a normal size house in a nice neighborhood, drive a normal car and prepare investments wisely! Of course security in my home and life would be of the most important! I’d also travel the world to places to see the things I have yet to see and culture.

Buy gold, investments and not keep large amounts of money in the bank. The dollar is not going to be worth much by the time they get done with it.

If I ever hit the lottery for a huge amount, I’d want my identity kept secret. You‘d have ’friends and family‘ you never knew hittin’ you up for money, not to mention every beggar around doin’ the same. I’d donate to charities and help people discreetly. Maybe live longer too.

well guess who hit the taxpayer ghetto lottery…pannetta…himself costing taxpayersmillions in flying home every weekend.
    BTW….Good Luck in Kansas…..dorothy……..

As for the Maryland she lost the ticket, yeah right. YOUR co-workers own that ticket too, give it up because you are going to have a hard way to go if you try to defraud them of what is rightfully theirs.

It’s a horrible move financially to not take the lump sum. I’ll be taking the lump sum when I win.

If you don’t think the apocalypse is around the corner, or some sort of total financial meltdown, the installments would be much wiser. Not only do you get more in the long run, but it shields you from inadvertently blowing a massive fortune because you are unaccustomed to managing such a large amount of money.

It says in the story that the winner took the lump sum and not the installments.

You expect taxes to be much higher in the future. Taking it all now gets your taxes taken care of now.
Before claiming, the person should already have a financial advisor and maybe a tax lawyer lined up to make certain everything is taken care of.

Also, I’m not certain if MegaMillions is this way, but some lottery annual payments are not inheritable. If, for whatever reason, the recipient isn’t around any more, the winnings aren’t awarded if not inheritable.

      That‘s what I’m talking about!

Totally off grid…totally self-sustaining. Food, water, heat, communications, protection…everything. Best of the best.

First thing I would do, though, is write the local “authorities” a big flippin’ check for about 50 years of property taxes (including enough to cover any/all future levies for their precious schools, too) and then tell them, “Do not EVER set foot on my property.”

P.S. If you had all that money in cash/precious metals you would not owe taxes. Ever. No income; no taxes! Some might say, “invest it,” but these days, I think I’d be more comfortable with guns, gold and butter!
