First QR Code Tattoo: Bar Code on Man’s Chest Activates Advertising Animation

Quick Response Codes are specific matrix barcodes that when detected by QR barcode readers, and a growing number of mobile phone devices, pick up encoded information such as text, URL, or video. QR codes have become more popular in the U.S. as many advertisers use them as opportunity to connect with customers thanks to the growing number of mobile phones capable of detecting QR Code encoding. Usually seen in magazines and train billboards, Ballantine whisky has found a new QR code canvass for their latest “Leave an Impression” advertising campaign. One man’s chest.

The tattoo was engraved by Paris-based tattoo artist Karl Marc onto his friend Marco’s chest. When scanned, the QR code unnlocks an animation via a live stream on the brand’s Facebook Page.

Mashable:

“’What makes this tattoo special is not just that it links to an animation,’ Marc says. ‘It’s that we will be able to change the animation as time goes on. As Marco grows older and his ideas change, we can create new animations that link to the Matrix Code.’

You’re probably wondering if the tat is fake — after all, that Facebook friend tattoo turned out to be an advertising campaign, as did the Ray-Ban tattoo. But Marc says that the ink is the real deal. And it does seems likely. There’s no hidden viral agenda here: Ballantine’s hosted the live stream of the process on its brand page.

Check out the code and animation yourself:

Well cause you limit your potential income by at least 40% a year for life, us hardworking non freak tax payers will end up paying the bill for you as you age. Now with Obama care, tax payers will be footing the bill to have these body mutilation removed so people can become gainfully employed if they ever grow up. Body modification is hardly a good therapy for low self esteem, society should encourage treatment, not ignore the illness.

I guess its kind of creative, but consider this, tattoos eventually fade and he’s going to have to keep getting touch ups throughout his life in order for this tattoo to continue working. The video of what seems to be a Russian Communist opera singer which only makes the advertisement even more creepy. The emphasis of the tattoo in its self seems to scream ‘notice me’. I wouldn’t doubt that governments might make note of this and consider making tattoos mandatory on citizens as a permanent means to identify them in the event that they were otherwise unknown.

You people really never cease to amaze me. Mark of the beast? Government conspiracy theories about bar codes. It’s a young kid getting a tattoo on his body, nothing more and nothing less. It’s absolutely 500% none of your business at all what people do to their bodies. If you don’t like it, guess what? TOO BAD!!

We’d been able to tattoo bar codes before, and have done so. That it’s able to be read by a phone is just another thing.

For all you crying “mark of the beast” this is just another tattoo. It just happens to be linked to a video. That video can be changed. There are far far worse tattoos out there.

And while I think tattoos are gross in general, the only really objectionable bit about this was that it was done in advertisement. A choice for the guy who got the tattoo. It wasn’t forced, it’s not an RFID, it’s just a gimmick.

I don‘t think anybody thinks this instance is THE mark but it certainly is prototypical isn’t it?
Oh the things they can do with this down the road; instant identification, digital accounting, geo

It’s all fun and games now, and few in the future will remember back when this was a paranoid joke

Long hair could be cut, short hair could grow color was always an option that could change weekly. 666 and its biblical reference are irrelevant, as Revelations was an allegory written for persecuted Christians of that time. 666 was the number of a very specific man known to the Christians of that time. Hebrew language had no written vowels only consonants (vowel sounds were understood through context), and letters we also used for number values like Roman numerals where I=1, V=5, X=10 etc.
In Hebrew, 666 is represented by adding the Hebrew letters N+R+N+C+S+R – NRN CSR, pronounced (adding the vowel sounds) as Nero(n) Caesar, a reference to the Emperor who had once persecuted Christians. John’s Emperor Vespasian had demanded all people worship him in public, receiving certificates as ‘good Romans’ when they did which were then required to buy and sell. They were thus ‘marked’ as good Romans.
Christians who would never worship him which meant death by execution or starvation. Vespasian was intentionally rooting out the Christians. Because of this, 666 was a political statement calling Emperor Vespasian a ‘Nero’ the way we call someone a ‘Hitler’ today.

This meaning is backed up by the fact that some Christian denominations’ version of Revelation have the number as 616 not 666 because they use the later spelling of N-E-R-O as opposed to the earlier spelling N-E-R-O-N, the ‘N’ having a value of 50 in Hebrew.

If the number itself was important, it would be consistent. But it is what the number stands for – a specific name – that it the real message ther
