First Video of James Holmes Emerges: 18 Year Old Presenting at Science Camp

ABC News on Sunday aired the first video footage of Colorado shooting suspect James Holmes as an 18-year-old presenting at science camp. (Image source: ABC)

A 6-year-old video shows James Holmes as a teenager presenting at science camp — the first footage of the Colorado shooting suspect to emerge in the wake of the massacre.

ABC News aired the video Sunday, showing a gangly, 18-year-old Holmes speaking at Miramar College in San Diego. His presentation is on “temporal illusion,“ which he defines as ”an illusion that allows you to change the past.”

He appears slightly nervous speaking to the group but also extremely intelligent.

This is how he was explaining his mentor’s shared interest in fantasy versus reality in the video:

“He also studies subjective experience, which is what takes places inside the mind as opposed to the external world. I’ve carried on his work in dealing with subjective experience.”

By most accounts, Holmes lived the life of a normal teen — with a particular interest in science.

The video shows him being introduced at the seminar as someone whose “goals are to become a researcher and to make scientific discoveries. In personal life, he enjoys playing soccer and strategy games and his dream is to own a slurpee machine.”

Holmes, 24, allegedly opened fire on an Aurora, Colo. theater showing a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises.” Twelve people were killed and more than 50 others injured in what has been declared the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

      1. What affect his college professors had on him and what they did to turn a nice child into a KGB-CIA style killing machine.

      2. This incident must not interfere with the rejection of the UN Civilian Arms Treaty Senator Kerry and Hillary Clinton have worked on at the UN for the past two months and is now in the Senate.

      3. Was Holmes attack an attempt to obtain passage of the UN Civilian Disarmament Treaty?

      Once again the gov’t is destroying evidence as they did in Waco,the Kansas Federal Building and 9/11 buildings.
      This young man was a loner who could have been set up for this. Or he could have new onset Schizophrenia. Or he could have been given some of the Gov’t mind control drugs. Obama has set scientists free to do almost anything. There has many reports of scarey treatments for PTSD with “the memory loss drugs.”
      Remember the shoulder who killed all those villagers in Afganistan? There are many scarey scenarios for this mass killing.

      Where he got the money is obvious. Mommy and daddy gave it to him to entertain himself with while that were both off doing their career thing in order to obtain the highest standard of living possible, despite the effect upon their wonderful son. The schools will take care of his education, teaching him that there is no God, we all came out of the big bang and evolution, there is nothing to live for except to propagate the same disaster all over again. And as for sexual needs, he has been doing that since he was a young child, thanks to the daughters of America and the world who are nothing more than free prostitutes now days. Sex is old hat and he has tired of it and doesn’t think he needs it anymore – until the physical requirement in a man kicks in again. But his godless schools have taught him how to simply relieve himself.

      The guy did not target cops.

      He targeted the people that attended the movie he was obsessed with and by booby trapping his apartment he was targeting the other campus members because the entire apartment is only for university faculty and students.

      I am a bit off beat here, but he could have been used under hypnosis some way and given drugs as well? I am just grasping at straws here, I guess. But this is so horrific that it is one of those things that people find difficult to wrap their mind around sure enough.

      The mind control is being perpetrated on all observers, as well. It is interesting that the reporter repeatedly emphasized what a highly intelligent guy Holmes was… adding that it is obvious by this video… although, there was nothing particularly intelligent, remarkable in anything he said or did during his demonstration. Quite to the contrary, he was not outstanding in any way whatsoever… instead, he was terribly awkward and bashful. I understand that the reason for his awkwardness was because he was much younger at the time, but to attempt to drill into the minds of the viewers that it is obvious by this video how exceptional he was is something other than fact, truth.

    Anyone out there ever go to college and see these smart kids
    that appear odd? Why has there never been studies about this
    correlation. I think it’s because people that research and study
    this stuff have masters and phd’s themselves. They don’t want to incriminate or
    look bad themselves after getting their psychological degrees, going through school 4 to 8 years. Some courageous scientist should study this or someone should bring it up, if you know someone
    in that area. I remember this one incident. A guy that looked sort of geeky but extremely odd. He
    would never talk and nobody talked to him. He would just go to class, sit there, and walk out. The professor at one time mentioned that if you take a certain class, you will likely get a job. So he takes the class, graduates, but doesn’t get the job. The professor mentions an incident later where he came back after graduating and knocks on his office door very loudly. He then complains that he didn’t get the job. Luckily the chinese professor was easy going and didn’t take it as a threat. He then had to explain to the student that it “was likely” you would get the job. Not that “you were certain to get it”. There is lots of variables in getting a job. Interview, economy, change of mind of whether the company decides to hire, or whatever..how does this smart kid who I saw in college, not comprehend the differing variables of the chances of getting a job?? This is the disconnect with really smart

      Just because an individual is intelligent doesn’t mean they are mentally ill. That there is a disconnect between intelligence and reality etc. Not all mental health professionals are themselves suffering a mental defect, and thus trying to hide it, Not all psychologists, psychiatrists, and mental health counselors in academia or in the private and public sector subscribe to the liberal progressive agenda. There are many who are NRA cardholding, religious, and proud to be called conservative, teaparty individuals. When you stereotype, you are no better then those on the left. It is a shame what has happened however he clearly has a mental issue whether it is an Axis I or II, but he needs to be fully examined. With that said, it is also wrong that Obama is using it to his advantage.

      I think the ones that go crazy are usually the ones who have one kind of intelligence overdeveloped and a deficiency in another area. They may have been born that way, but most likely parents and teachers who are willing to play to their strengths instead of doing the hard work of developing a well-rounded mind are part of the problem. Usually people who are actual geniuses are okay. Its the ones who are really smart but not brilliant, the ones who lack that indefinable extra spark of originality that would lead them to do something truly great, who have a problem. That’s why I think it’s important to have art and literature in the schools even though it’s not of practical value to most people in the sense of being something they could ever make a living from, just to keep all the different parts of the mind working. Everybody knows that Einstein was a musician and Churchill was a painter, but we probably underestimate the extent to which that was part of what made them great thinkers instead of babbling lunatics.

      This is very difficult for any of his family I would think. Sometimes nice people have kids who are inclined towards self-destruct and some want to take this destruction to others. This is all so very horrible. I like movies, but will not go see this now because those people who died have overshadowed any enjoyment I could ever get out of this movie. That is just me, that is not to say anyone else should be like that. I cannot stand the thoughts of even seeing the movie.

      I don’t want to know a damned thing about him. He’s a murdered. I don‘t care if he’s a brilliant, top of the top murderer. He is mentally ill and should receive the death penalty ASAP. I do not want to feed or house him for 30 years, he doesn’t deserve it. I feel sorry for his family as well as all the other victims. I can’t imagine having a brilliant child for 24 years to find out, in the end, he’s a monster. Pray for all the families.
