PATERSON, N.J. (AP/THE BLAZE) — Police have captured five goats that were wandering the streets of a gritty northern New Jersey city.
Chief Animal Control Officer John DeCando tells The Record newspaper that a woman called Paterson police after nearly hitting the herd with her car at 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
“She might have even saved these baby goats from being hit by a car,” DeCando told The Record, a New Jersey newspaper. “She was more or less like a God send.”
Police took the goats to the animal shelter. They’ll stay there until they are sent to a farm to live out their days.
DeCando says he believes someone was keeping them for an Easter meal or a sacrifice.
It’s illegal to keep farm animals in Paterson. “These goats have no business being in the city of Paterson at all,” DeCando says. If the person responsible for these goats comes to claim them, DeCando explains, they will be slapped with a $5000 fine and possible jail time.
“They’re adorable, aren’t they?” someone says in the background of this clip. Yes. Yes, they are.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 6:35pmI LOVE Goat! There is a simple recipe I got from a Saudi Chief MSgt I was in the NCO academy with…Rub the goat meat with szechuan dry seasoning and salt. fill the bottom of a pot with cut up onions, peppers and other veggies then cover the veggies with rice and the appropriate amount of water. Now here is the tricky part. In Saudi Arabia they have terracotta pots buried in the ground the families use to cook in much like we have BBQs. For ours we used a steel garbage can :) We placed mesquite firewood in the bottom and when the wood turned to coals about fist size we placed a wire grill over the coals put the pot of rice in the can and the meat around it. In Saudi they use the skin of the butchered goat to close the opening of the pot and cover with dirt. We used a wet cotton towel and banged the lid on and then buried it. 2.5 hours later we opened it up and the meat was falling from the bone and the rice was amazing. We fed the entire lodging complex of 50 to 60 people and had leftovers. Serve with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. Funniest part of the story was we had to cook it OFF BASE because of fire rules and imagine two guys ONE ARAB driving up to a Air Force base with a SMOKING TRASH CAN in the back of my PICKUP!!! Glad the guards had a sense of humor! Great memories and it let the Chief from Saudi know we are just like him and his family and yes he was Muslim BUT he said us Christians weren’t the devil hypocrites he was taught. I could tell it gave him something to think about…

Also won’t forget the accident with the trainer at Sea World with the whale happened just before a major natural catastrophe. Three days later, the 8.8 quake in Chile which created a tsunami going towards Hawaii, 2010.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 6:01pmIts yet another ‘sacrifice’ in Islam – Eid al-Adha is about now 70 days after Ramadan – bet they are really upset they won’t get to kill the poor things and the goats will get to live on; I’m pretty sure if you ligit reasons, someone would be looking for them. Some muslim probably beating his wife and daughter forgot and left the back gate open.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 7:59pmlol it’s the truth. I‘m not proud of it but Paterson has it’s share of gangs, poverty and more then 50% of the families are on some form of government assistance. What more can you expect from a liberal ran city??? Luckily my parents taught me that rewards come from hard work. That‘s why I’m not in a gang, or in poverty and not on government assistance.
Also Paterson has a big “middle eastern/ Muslim” population… but not in the area the goats were found.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 6:05pmDon’t forget they also keep your grass cropped and the weeds down pretty short as well. I’ve seen a few folks around keep a goat or a sheep around for weed control. Then, at the end of the growing season, you eat the lawn mower.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 7:51pmYeah, It’s where young muslim boys gets to experience their first beheading–a right of passage (I believe it’s during a Fall festival)! I’m a Christian–we don’t tack people on a cross for Easter–although we do put babies in a manger for Christmas! Let’s not even go to the early English practice of “To be hanged, drawn and quartered was from 1351 a penalty in England for men convicted of high treason, … ‘ from Wiki! Gosh, I don‘t mind following Beck’s suggestion that we look back to the beginnings of our country, The Declaration and The Constitution, but I‘m glad he doesn’t try and take us back to our earlier English (and other) ancestry! Ain’t it GREAT living in the nuclear age?
