FL Cops Say Woman Tried to Sell Baby Grandson for $30k

FL Cops Say Woman Tried to Sell Baby Grandson for $30kDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman and her boyfriend have been charged with trying to sell her infant grandson for $30,000.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents arrested 45-year-old Patty Bigbee and 42-year-old Lawrence Works on Friday in Daytona Beach after they met with an agent posing as a buyer. Both were charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child, and Bigbee was also charged with communication fraud.

FDLE agent Wayne Ivey said an investigation began last month after an informant told authorities the woman was trying to sell the baby. Authorities say the woman originally wanted $75,000 but was talked down to $30,000.

The child’s mother is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges.

The infant has been turned over to child welfare officials.

Authorities said they didn’t know if Bigbee or Works had an attorney.

I don’t understand why this happens to me. I post a message and it doesn’t show when I check it. I post it again and get a notice that it cannot post a duplicate message. So I change a word or tow and post it again and then suddenly both posts are listed. Do I need patience or what?

    Second Listing:
It is difficult for me to imagine such a cold, heartless person doing this to a child of God. A relative, or even a stranger, how could anyone do this to pure innocence? Obviously, the grandmother has never known love herself. Therefore she had no love to give her own daughter who is paying the consequences right now by serving time in prison. That’s usually the way it goes. We can only love when we have known love. In spite of her own very likely mistreatment as a child, the grandmother must nonetheless suffer the consequences of such an evil deed. Somebody in the family has to eventually break the chain of mistreatment or it will continue on down the family line. Children are just so special and so wanted by the majority of human beings, and it actually hurts to think of one being treated this way.
Now, on a lighter side, I have a wife, two-tone, no tears, rips, or otherwise unusual wear whom I am willing to sell for just $5000 OBO. I’m guessing she has less than 1000 hours of heavy use. Have kept up with regular 6 month check-ups since bringing her home. Would also be willing to trade for a slightly newer or lesser model.

To the former prisoner that posted here: While I don‘t know you and will give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re not a horrible person; Losing your right to vote is a consequence of the crimes you were convicted of. I believe as the bible says that people should be forgiven but even God doesn’t take us out of the consequences of our actions. If you have committed a crime that you were convicted of you suffer the consequences of those actions. I‘m glad that you appear to have learned something from it but that doesn’t mean you should get to get out of the consequences.

If you feel strongly about the constitution and want to make a difference, make a difference where you are. Meaning, go and share your testimony with people and teach them about the constitution and why your right to vote is so important. You’ve lost yours and now you regret it. Take the lesson and the circumstances God has put before you and use it for good.

But I’m sorry, losing your right to vote is a legitimate punishment and consequence for criminals. End of story, no second chance on that one. I’m sorry.

The real travesty is that our current adoption system is very broken! While there are many couples who want to adopt in the US, they go out of the country so they don’t have to worry about a stupid judge giving the child back to its biological parents! It’s despicable how our system works and this baby will likely be tossed from home to home until it is older and possibly remain in the system indefinitely!

That’s not thte point. It’s another example of an over regulated, GOVERNMENT failed system. The child has the right to LIVE, just never with these people. How many young women say I could NEVER give my child away, as in adoption, but in the next breath they want to ABORT the same child? Child protection should only go so far, then the best interest of the CHILD should come first.

Im trying to be on the right side but the hypocracy of current America angers me, this is still a very wrong, just not as wrong as what we commonly accept as ok in these times
I live for this country and i seldom reference abortion because it seems an evil that another generation must face(maybe why Franklin didnt fight harder against slavery) but in reference to the fundamental wrong in this story, they seem relevant

We are the angry mob, luckily we do live in a country where the rule of law is generally followed. However, it is our belief, no matter how much of a libertarian I am, that there is no place in this world for a child to be sold. The grandmother should have made the state aware that she couldn’t care for the child or was unwilling, then he/she should have gone into protective custody and lived with a foster family until the custody issue could be settled by a competant individual or group of individuals.
What you are reacting to is merely our reaction to the deplorable way in which this child was treated, which cannot be excused. You sound like a regular person and I am sure that you understand that 99.9 percent of the people who frequent this site are the least likely Americans to deny another their rights, even that of a fair trial. Once again, this is only our personal reaction and not what we actually act on.

Women’s domestic violence against men and children is grossly under reported, while child victims and male victims are still routinely being ignored by the taxpayer funded domestic violence industry. According to the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services and DOJ statistics, more kids are killed by neglect and abuse in a year (1,760 in 2007), than all the female intimate partner homicides in a year. Mothers are the single largest group of kid killers, according to HHS ( child deaths by neglect and abuse section) and they have a rate twice that of fathers. Nowhere near the money is spent to protect kids from kid killing mothers as is spent by the domestic violence industry to protect women. A lot of innocent men are witch-hunted by the corrupt, gender feminist influenced, taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry. Involving the corrupt d.v. industry in an attempt to prevent abusive and neglectful deaths of children is a big mistake. No place better characterizes the corruption of the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry than “Los Misandry.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAmOxvudpF8

The sad thing is that this child would be better off SOLD to a good family! Now he is in foster care in custody of the STATE. The dad will not show up for fear of having to support the child. He will be forced to have “PRISON” visits with the mom and the grandmother. He will go back and forth to the mom’a custody as she goes in and out of jail and by the time he is around 12, the mom won’t care any longer. THEN she will finally relinguish parental rights. I was a foster parent and it’s a messed up system! These poor kids don’t stand a chance in that system! :(

I know exactly how you feel. Direct knowledge and involvement with the system forces you to look at these heartbreaking situations through a different set of eyes. I’m an emergency foster parent, which means I’m the one picking up abused, injured or sick, and neglected or abandoned children from police stations and hospitals in the middle of the night. My thoughts and prayers go out to this precious and innocent baby. In reality, it will be several years before the system get “approval” to place the baby up for adoption and there is a high likelihood that this child will have been moved in and out of several “homes” by that time. It is sickening. Psycho granny can rot in jail, or preferably a much hotter location, for eternity.

Not a pretty picture. Human traffiicking does still exist. It’s a bid situation all around. Foster care isn’t the best place for a child to grow up, and adoption is a long way off…if someone will adopt him before he ends up in Juvenile hall himself. Bless his heart, I hope all the best for him.

No, really, she used to be a supermodel in Daytona but as she got older the government wouldn’t pay for her implants, facelift and tummy tuck so she fell on hard times. Same with her young boyfriend. Now they will go to jail and all that is probably included in the penal healthcare so when they get out they will be nipped and tucked and ready to go. Actually on a “man scale” she is probably a two-******. Children’s Home Society is a great source for adoption in North FL so hopefully someone will be happy parents if mom will sign baby over. I think there isn’t enough info to say that parental rights should be stripped away. We don’t know what the mother is in jail for, maybe she is in for a short time on something minor, maybe she had the baby in jail and wants to turn her life around for her child. The grandmother deserves everything she is going to get, even if her jail time is inappropriate she will live her life as a pariah, and I think she may be able to look forward to a real hot place when she passes, and I’m not talking about Florida.

@kwatch While I don’t agree prisoners should be aloud to vote, I do feel once they are released and off parole for a certain amount of years they should get that right back. No where in the constitution or the bill of rights does it say a convicted criminal loses his/her right to vote and as a former prisoner myself I wish I could.

Just because someone has been to prison doesn’t mean they are a horrible person. And I can promise you this, While I was in I met A LOT guards that deserved to be there as much if not more than some of the prisoners. But I was naive once in thinking anyone sent to prison deserved to be there, until I was on the other end of a BS felony charge.

Don‘t get me wrong there are some bad people in prison but I also know their are a bunch in there that shouldn’t be. our legal system is screwed up beyond anything most people realize. In todays world its no longer innocent until proven guilty,

I guess what i’m trying to get at is this, Don’t stereotype all prisoners or ex-cons because believe it or not some of them are actually productive members of society. They learned from their passed mistakes and have been made better people. and to continue to punish them after they have done their time is not fair. Of all the rights I lost once I was convicted (not really convicted more like Scared into signing a plea bargain) my right to vote is the one that bothers me the most.

I did enjoy hunting at one time but the loss of being able to own a gun doesn’t bother me as much as losing my right to vote.
