FL Pastor: NYC Imam Has Two Hours to Contact Me

Terry Jones, the pastor who had planned to burn Korans on 9/11, has given Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf a two hour deadline to contact him to confirm if the Imam is in fact planning on moving the mosque slated to be built near Ground Zero. The deadline expires at 3:20 pm ET.
Still, it is unclear what will happen if Jones is not contacted. Jones himself did not deliver the message, but rather had another pastor, K. A. Paul, deliver the challenge. Paul gave out two numbers that the Imam can use to contact Jones.
“There is a confusion going on,” Paul said. “We want to clear that confusion.”
Toward the end of his statement, Paul did admit that while legally Jones has a right to burn Korans, it is not the right thing to do. He also echoed Jones’s earlier statements that he had been “clearly deceived” by a local Florida Imam who he says promised that Rauf had agreed to move the Ground Zero Mosque.
UPDATE:
According to Graham Fitzgerald of Sky News, the pastor’s deadline has passed without word from Imam Rauf. Fitgerald reports that Pastor Hall, who’s been acting as a spokesman this afternoon, has asked Pastor Jones not to burn any copies of the Koran despite not hearing from the imam.
Hall also said he and Pastor Jones still hope to fly to New York to meet the imam and resolve their differences over the proposed mosque near Ground Zero peacefully.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:44pmWe as Christians are instructed in the bible not to put stumbling blocks in front of others. This is NOT the way we need to conduct ourselves. I believe in standing behind your word but please disassociate yourself from Christianity. If he doesn’t, then I urge his congregation to disassociate themselves with him and all other Christians as well. We want peace-loving muslims to stand out against radicals in their faith, we have to do the same when people like this try to hijack Christianity and make this about a media stand-of. Please EVERYONE pray this situation is turned into something that honors God and Jesus. Not this! Please!

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 7:00pmPatriot: your assumption is wrong about Islam. To be a good Muslim, one must accept the Koran and its writings as the word of God. The Koran calls for violence against nonbeleivers in order to conquer the world for ALLAH.
Can a Christian accept the New Testament in only ways they wish or does one have to accept and try to live the teachings? The same goes for Muslims and the Koran. You can’t be a true Muslim without accepting the concept of violence in the n ame of a world ruled by ALLAH.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 8:40pmTo be fair though, Mr. Poppopschell, you‘d have to mention that there are very few Christians who actually follow the NT in every point and I’m willing to argue there are NO Jewish people who follow the cruel parts of the Torah/OT. It’s the same with Muslims. They have a moral compass too. It’s just the extremists who riot.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:42pmI agree with using the Qoran as toilet paper, however since I have heard the authorities do not allow books to be burned because the ink is toxic, send the used Qoran dirty pieces up to the Imam in NY. and let him worry about where to get rid of it. :)

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:41pmI don‘t like the idea of burning or destroying anyone’s cultural spiritual heritage. We’ve already lost priceless works in the Alexandrian Library fire, the Inquisition book/people burnings, the Taliban’s destruction of Buddhist statues, and the rocknroll record burnings in the 60′s. The only razing that should take place is that of Pastor Jones’ muttonchops.

It’s one thing for a everyday citizen to stage a pointless act in an attempt to express a frustration with resolution of a perceived problem, but for a so called PASTOR to start burning books is completely in conflict with the teachings that a Christian Pastor should be demonstrating with his life.
Now we are getting into weak attempts at black mail, DUDE you need to go study your Bible, the one you claim to represent with your Life!

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:37pmAs a Christian, I think we should not do things to cause strife. As a human, I would do it just to piss off the muslims since they seem to be nothing but a bunch of cry baby wusses. They demand “respect”, but they respect no one else. They have lost their chance to say they are a peace loving religion in my book. They have picked my pocket and broken my leg too many times.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:22pmPastor Jones should never have planned to do this in the first place because now he has no way to back down without losing face and giving the appearance that the terrorists have, once again, intimidated us into submission. It was a stupid idea to begin with; it accomplishes nothing. It might be different if he had the support of his own country and his own government, but clearly, he does not. Threats such as burning their holy book should only be made when and if we have the will and the military power to back them up. And I don’t see that ever happening.

Report Post »The unfortunate result will be the same wether he burns the books or not. If not this issue it will be another soon enough. You are dealing with a school yeard bully just looking for a reason to kick your butt. They will find a reason, any reason, to re-ignite the flames of hatred. We need only to exist outside of their rules and laws to be infidels and we all know what the karan says about infidels, especially if they publically voice their opposition to islam. Moderates are the bully’s little sister, they stand on the sidelines and say “dont do that, he is going to get pissed” but will not do anything to try to stop it because they know they will come under fire if they do. Intimidation and Fear are their tools, so know eventually we are going to have to stand and fight these bullies. Don’t be afraid, it only empowers the bully. Strand strong with your convictions and know that you will be called upon as a soldier for Christ one day. It will boil down to a point to where you personally will have to make a decision, become muslim or fight. That is the reality of this situation.

Yes, sir, sure enough! I think you and I swapped lies about this yesterday, day before.
Jones certainly has Muslims making murderous maniac fools of themselves. Last I checked, one person killed by Muslims, along with widespread rioting, looting, burning and destruction. This is almost as comical as those cartoons years back. Well, this would be comical if not so frightening. Very clear many Muslims are violent murderous nutjobs.
This is quite the turn of events, quite amazing actually. One man, a rather eccentric reverend, just about has our entire world aflame. Crazy, shocking, unreal, this man of God has presidents, leaders, military men, religious leaders, clerics, he has almost all peoples of our world in an uproar and calling upon him. This is almost beyond comprehension.
Many miss the real event here which is placing Islam under a blistering hot stage flood light.
I love this reverend. I am wondering if some Muslim will chop his head off. I hope not.
This good reverend has Rauf and all Islam over a barrel and the reverend ain’t holding a jar of K-Y Jelly.

But everyone here that went to 8/28 and claim to have experienced something amazing are doing nothing but ripping that experience to pieces. These two “men of God” are acting like children arguing over who’s God is greater and you people are starting to act the exact way that they want you to act.
