Fla. ATM Spits Out Gold, Not Cash

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — If you’re a shopper looking for something sparkly to put under the Christmas tree, you could skip the jewelry.
A new ATM at an upscale mall in Florida’s swanky Boca Raton dispenses shiny 24-carat gold bars and coins.
A German company plans to install the machine Friday.
Thomas Geissler, inventor of the Gold To Go machines, says the majority of buyers will be walk-ups enamored by the novelty.
But he says they’re also convenient for more serious investors looking to bypass the hassle of buying gold at pawn shops and over the Internet.
Shoppers insert cash or credit cards and use a computer touch-screen to choose the weight and style they want. The machine spits out the gold in a classy black box with a tamper-proof seal.

Gold is surprisingly heavy. It would take A LOT of force to get it off the ground, let alone scrape a hole in the bottom dragging it. No way someone would get it, even if it WASN’T bolted to the ground.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 12:43amWhat’s to keep them from casing the gold exchange places around town and mugging them on the way out? We have two physical locations to buy and sell gold in our town; I don’t feel uncomfortable leaving the building. Although the one I go to is in a nice part of town…

Posted on December 17, 2010 at 10:22amHow long do you think it would take drug dealers to figure out what a great way this will be to launder money? Or, what about the ct. weight of the gold? You don’t think they would sell 10 ct. and pass it off as 24 ct. do you?
Report Post »the_ancient
Posted on December 17, 2010 at 11:12amWell that would be Fraud, and the owner of the machine would then be committing a felony and could/would go to jail. I am sure there are several Gold Dealers (jewelry stores) in the mall that would be happy to prove the owner of such machine as a fraud.
Anyone that buys gold, from a vending machine, a Mail Order Dealer (like the ones advertised here) or a local deal takes that risk

Posted on December 17, 2010 at 10:30amThere is a difference between confidence and stupidity. If you want to show your bravery, go flashing a lot of cash around. I brick in the head really hurts. Its stupid to step into the victim line at your local ATM.

Posted on December 17, 2010 at 1:44pm@UNTAMEABLE-KATE,
Probably but so is thinking the every single person that buys from this machine is going to be hit in the head with a brick. If that was the case then malls would not exist nor would they have Jewelry or other High Value Items in them.
If a would be mugger is going to “case” this, then they will case a jewelry store looking for the next unsuspecting guy or gal that just bought a diamond ring or 24K neckless…
To stop economic activity on pure fear of being mugged is just plain ridiculous

Not only does he say we are BORROWING from CHINA to pay for lost TAXES from those making over $250,000. BUT he says no one is here is ILLEGAL and why do Convservatives hate children and want to send them back, away from the only home they have ever known? OKAY. Who’s fault is that? Why doesn’t he ask about why the PARENTS did this to the children. (btw up to 30 year old children?) He believes in no borders and amnesty for all. He is unreal and all these socialists think alike. They have no clue. He says taking 55% of EARNED INCOME in the form of a death tax is okay since you’re dead already?? WHAT? I guess you don’t care or know they are robbing you if you are dead? Seriously.. I will fight these fools till the day I die and even then, I will GIVE my money away before I let THEM take it. They would rather have the government take care of my kids as opposed to having me and my husband leave them our hard earned, life long already taxed money to help them? SICKOS!!! He also said he started a website called DEMOCRATS WHO FIGHT. COM – Make sure to check that out.. ugh. VOTE HIM OUT.
