Flashback: Obama in ‘08 Hit Hillary Clinton for Health Care ’Penalty’

White House chief of staff Jack Lew repeatedly insisted Sunday that those who fail to buy health insurance will be assessed a “penalty” — not a tax.

But just four years ago, then-candidate Barack Obama ran an ad attacking rival Hillary Clinton for her health plan that it said would do just that.

First, the ad:

      here’s the thing,
      Tax,mandate,penalty..whatever
No where does the government have the right to place one or any on you for not buying something. No where does the government have the right to tax you just because you exist. Which is what 5 supremem court judges just ruled they do have. THIS IS A SIGN THAT THECONSTITUTION NEEDS TO AMENDMENTS ADDED AND OTHER AMENDMENTS NEED TO HAVE PRECISE LIMITS ON THEM.

      ABBY,
Your response is an eloquent version of my reaction, which was more like–”What a slimy liar!”

Lew’s twisting of words comes so calmly and naturally, yet we know he KNOWS he is twisting the truth. How can any honest person have this conversation without once even mentioning the word “tax”in any context (or did I miss it?). That takes concentration– and proves that they know these words are important.

Amusing how the REAL question small businesses have about Obamacare is artfully dodged. I’m talking small businesses with under 25 employees where as yet they have been unable to afford to provide ANY healthcare benefits and even a 35% “tax credit” isn’t enough to make it affordable. The companies still can’t exist if they have to pay that 65%. I spoke with one small business owner today who plans on closing his business in 2014 when this goes into effect. I won’t be starting the business I was going to start thanks to Obamacare. Fend for yourselves suckers.

Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the U.K. and 457 percent higher in Norway. The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40 percent higher.

Fact No. 2: Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians.[2] Breast cancer mortality is 9 percent higher, prostate cancer is 184 percent higher and colon cancer mortality among men is about 10 percent higher than in the United States.

Fact No. 3: Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries.[3] Some 56 percent of Americans who could benefit are taking statins, which reduce cholesterol and protect against heart disease. By comparison, of those patients who could benefit from these drugs, only 36 percent of the Dutch, 29 percent of the Swiss, 26 percent of Germans, 23 percent of Britons and 17 percent of Italians receive them. “

“Fact No. 4: Americans have better access to preventive cancer screening than Canadians.[4] Take the proportion of the appropriate-age population groups who have received recommended tests for breast, cervical, prostate and colon cancer:

Nine of 10 middle-aged American women (89 percent) have had a mammogram, compared to less than three-fourths of Canadians (72 percent).
Nearly all American women (96 percent) have had a pap smear, compared to less than 90 percent of Canadians.

Nearly one-third of Americans (30 percent) have had a colonoscopy, compared with less than 1 in 20 Canadians (5 percent).

Fact No. 5: Lower income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians. Twice as many American seniors with below-median incomes self-report “excellent” health compared to Canadian seniors (11.7 percent versus 5.8 percent). Conversely, white Canadian young adults with below-median incomes are 20 percent more likely than lower income Americans to describe their health as “fair or poor.”

“Fact No. 6: Americans spend less time waiting for care than patients in Canada and the U.K. Canadian and British patients wait about twice as long – sometimes more than a year – to see a specialist, to have elective surgery like hip replacements or to get radiation treatment for cancer.[6] All told, 827,429 people are waiting for some type of procedure in Canada.[7] In England, nearly 1.8 million people are waiting for a hospital admission or outpatient treatment.[8]

Fact No. 7: People in countries with more government control of health care are highly dissatisfied and believe reform is needed. More than 70 percent of German, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and British adults say their health system needs either “fundamental change” or “complete rebuilding.”[9]

Fact No. 8: Americans are more satisfied with the care they receive than Canadians. When asked about their own health care instead of the “health care system,” more than half of Americans (51.3 percent) are very satisfied with their health care services, compared to only 41.5 percent of Canadians; a lower proportion of Americans are dissatisfied (6.8 percent) than Canadians (8.5 percent).[10]“

The United States has nearly 27 MRI machines per million compared to about 6 per million in Canada and Britain.[12]

Fact No. 10: Americans are responsible for the vast majority of all health care innovations.[13] The top five U.S. hospitals conduct more clinical trials than all the hospitals in any other single developed country.[14] Since the mid-1970s, the Nobel Prize in medicine or physiology has gone to American residents more often than recipients from all other countries combined.[15] In only five of the past 34 years did a scientist living in America not win or share in the prize. Most important recent medical innovations were developed in the United States.[16] “

So the government requires hospitals to treat people without insurance. And then they are shocked that people take advantage of the system and to fix the problem….We get health insurance mandates (Romneycare and Obamacare). But the government created the problem!!

I just now started looking into this – let me know if i am missing anything….
It’s called the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act and it requires hospitals to treat people without insurance. Turns out it was passed in 1986. 1986, guess who was president at the time….RONALD REAGAN!! And to make it worse, the republicans had the Senate!!!

This is why we need to tell the republicans – NO MORE. No more progressivism, no more incrimentalism, NO MORE COMPROMISE. I’m telling you, if we nominate progressive Romney and keep weak-kneed McConnel and Boehner in charge – things will never get better. Babies were being born on the steps of hospitals when their mothers were turned away. It was another of those news stories that they pushed and pushed and the public called thier representatives to have this bill passed.

The news media then as now decides public opinion.

Everynight while bush was pres, we saw the faces of the dead soldiers and a head count monthly. Every news outlet gave us the news and covered it on every broadcast for a week when the number of US soldiers deaths hit 2000 in Iraq. Last week we hit the horrible number of 2000 dead in Afghanistan, but with Obama as president, the news media never mentioned it and has forgotten that our boys are still fighting and losing thier lives everyday over there.

This, despite the fact that one-half trillion dollars will be eliminated from Medicare over a 10 year period under ObamaCare. It seems to me this is a golden Opportunity for the Gov. to say in response“ You say you credit my version of a state health care plan and have copied and expanded it to the rest of the Country” then I say “You learned nothing from the flaws that became apparent during implantation and in fact Obamacare will be an object failure in not fixing the problems, that will be greatly magnified when expanding the program from less then 20 million to over 320 Million.

HEre’s a question…he keeps saying that the penalty is because of the burden put on ‘the system’ by people getting health care but not being on a plan….sooo…what happens when rich folk who have no plan decide to pay their doctors directly out of their pocket? They are not in the system, nor do they burden the system? I’ll tell you what happens…these people will intentionally not get a plan, get taxed, then sue based on the Anti-Injunction Act and had the gov’t their butts.
