Flashback: Remember When Obama Promised to ‘Walk on That Picket Line’?

It was 2007, and then-Sen. Barack Obama was on the campaign trail in South Carolina trying to drum up support for his presidential platform. During a stump speech he made an interesting promise: should union collective bargaining privileges be threatened (such as they are in Wisconsin), he would “walk on that picket line”:

“And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I’ll put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself, I’ll walk on that picket line with you as President of the United States of America. Because workers deserve to know that somebody is standing in their corner.”

According the White House, however, Obama has no plans to do that. Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked about the quote on Thursday and brushed aside the comment.

“I think what we have made pretty clear is that the president thinks, and we think, that, obviously a lot of states in the union are dealing with fiscal issues, big problems in their state budgets… they need to act responsibly, tighten their belts, live within their means just as we in Washington, the executive branch, congress, need to do with our federal situation,” said Carney.

The shoes, for now, won’t be hitting the picket pavement.

    Morning, freezing here right now, and feels good compared to how it will be in a couple of months; I had a thought, if Obama wants to demonstrate any solidarity with the union workers, let him go on strike from the White House and carry a sign saying “On Strike, POTUS is unfair to himself…”

    Oh wait, that is right, he does go on strike, he goes to the golf course to strike the golf ball across the range.

      Jim in Houston . . . you have to understand something . . . When you talk about rabbis, understand that most people who are not Jewish don’t understand that there are the Orthodox rabbis and then there are the Reformed rabbis. Reformed rabbis are generally political in nature. It’s almost like Islam – radicalized Islam – in a way to where radicalized Islam is less about religion than it is about politics.

      So you declare the fact of Bin Lauden and Beck as BOTH being of the same mold? While we have a president who seeks the destruction of the nation, disregards any and all laws of the land he does not like or finds inconveinet, and enables the mobilization of the various federal agencies, via executive fiat to dispense out their new regulations along the lines of ‘social justice’ to press ahead with his ‘fundamental transformation of America.’

      So to disagree with the POTUS, is therefore to make anyone like Beck, and therefore a terrorist after Bin Lauden and his kind?

      Don’t feed the trolls – it only emboldens them. Logical and facts are of no use as they are not here for debate – they are here to incite. I know it is tempting (and I have done so myself) as they always do the same thing – pointing out past bad behavior to excuse current behavior and then there is the classic – going on the Blaze to down those that post there as well as Glenn Beck. I do not post on liberal sites because it would not be worth my time – I read them, I listen to their arguments (when they actually make pointed arguments and not regurgitating talking points) but I know I’m not going to change them any more than they are going to change me.

    PA PATRIOT, where do we start with Obama’s unacceptable behavior? And he is so blatant about it is what boggles the mind, with no fear of recourse or consequences. Unless the Secret Service is in bed with this administration, I just don’t see how the function with him day-to-day. I met one of Clinton’s agents years back and begged him to write a book – oh the stories he could tell; bottom line, he was a patriot and loved his country. Imagine if you had to defend this treasonous, conniving, lying president on a daily basis.

    He can’t walk with them due to security reasons; however, he CAN send his goon squads in and “support” their cause. Just let them believe they are changing things with their protests and go to the next elecion with the knowledge that IT is how thay acheived power, not through their protests.

    We had our day on the National Mall which showed all of us in the quiet majority we are not alone. Now let them yell to their awesome 15% of the population and let the next election show them who is really in charge here.(just lke he last election did!)

    The POTUS is using communication tactics that encompass the use of lies and deceit. He says to the American People, “Let me be clear” on Egypt, per se, and then he does exactly the opposite!       Lawrence O’Donnell was on the show this morning and had an interesting take (I know, strange for Lawrence) – he felt Obama had to hold back and not fully support the unions in Wisconsin because the polls are not that much in favor of the unions as the MSM seems to suggest – that right now the polls are unreliable and Obama needs to win Wisconsin to win the presidency for a second term. He appeared cautious that the state actually is backing the unions but rather may in the end back the Governor (which if he fixes the budget problem will be the case).

      I’m with you until the Fair Tax. My friend and Marine com-Patriot, (’81-’87), right now in truth you do not owe income tax on any money you make in exchange for ‘your’ time. This has been proven and is continuing to be proven. The only issue is the fed and the media will not publicize it and the IRS makes each person fight it all the way through. When all is said and done the fair tax would give them the right to circumvent the Constitution and have a right to tax you. When that happens do you think they will stop at 10%? Realize this, When the income tax was raised for WWI, they explained that it would never be more then 10%, ‘that would be ridiculous’. My question is; is it? really?

      OK, Let’s try this out. Do you know how many people have fought the IRS in this scenario and won? MORE THAN ZERO. Now, we can go back and forth making statements without unsubstantiating them – it’s called arguing – or we can have legitimate debate.

      I am more than happy to show you MY court judgment where I fought the IRS AND WON on the exact premise previously discussed. The difference between the over 70 million legal non-tax paying citizens and people like Wesley Snipes is that Snipes is an idiot who didn‘t do his homework and didn’t know how to fight the case. I’ll make you a deal. You read through the 9000+ page tax code and tell me where it says in there where you or I have to pay an income tax (and I’ll go back to being a slave of the union) – but I already know that won’t happen – because I’ve read it and am more than aware of why the tax code does not apply to my income.

      •End draft registration.
      •Eliminate Department of Energy
      •Eliminate Department of Education
      •Get the government off our backs

      A few from Newt and his “contract”:
      •independent auditing to ensure that Congress cuts down on waste, fraud, and abuse
      • A requirement that Congress live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses, including an amendment to balance the budge
      • Citizen Legislature Act
      • repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security benefits
      • pretty much everything else in the contract

      A few from W:
      •Attack pork barrel spending
      •Lock away the Social Security surplus
      •Put SS surlus toward deficit reduction (yeah, he promised both)
      •Urban Homesteading
      •Mission Accomplished
      •No Child Left Behind (or funded)
      •Get bin Laden

      And today? Forget the cutting of $100 B or repealing Healthcare Reform, conservatives can’t even manage to get sworn in before they vote. But my favorite? It’s a doozy: “We’ll cite Constitutional authority for any and all legislation.” (HR 358 – a thing of beauty)

      Did you see the CBS Moring Show this morning? Bill Plante was reporting on Obama‘s speech about the coming government shut down and it’s consequences, in which the POTUS said that the SS checks will not be sent out and the VA benefit checks wouldn’t be sent out. Bill Plante came back and said (paraphrasing) “What the President just said was untrue. The SS and VA checks will be sent out as always just like they were the last time the government was shut down.” Isn’t a lie saying something that is untrue? Depending on your definition of a lie I believe Bill Plante just called the president a liar.
      Reagan was hindered by a democrat controlled house and senate, Gingerich was hindered by a democrat president, W was hindered by a loss of the senate then the house and constantly hounded by the press and democrats, Bush 1 by bad judgement, and Clinton was helped by a republican controlled house and senate to balance the budget no matter how much kicking and screaming he did to try and stop them.

      Capitalisms main function is to expand

      but for all of the rest as well.

      As you get older and wiser (if that is possible)
      you will understand what Reagan meant when he said

      A socialist is someone who has read Marx

      The D president is not at fault because the congress and/or senate was R. The D congress and/or senate is not at fault because the president is R.
      The R president is always at fault no matter whether congress and senate is R or D. The D president is never at fault if the congress and senate are D and/or R, and even if they are both D the D president is not at fault because there once was a president that was R.

      What’s new?? Politicians say whatever will get your approval and your vote. Did he forget that the Dems passed no collective bargaining for federal employees?? Since government employees do not generate products that make (sells for) money and therefore generate profits, they have no claim to share in what the government is able to take from the taxpayer above and beyond a resonable pay for services rendered.

      DAWG OF GAWD – Your “version” of the “Contract with America” is a bit of revisionism by omission – The Contract listed a number of bills that existed BEFORE the Republicans took the House that were promised to be voted on, up or down, in the first 100 days. The promise wasn’t to pass the bills, it was to consider the bills. You know, deliberate, discuss, and vote on them.

      Senator Joe Wilson had it right when he shouted out during Obama’s first State of the Union Speech, “ YOU LIE ”. Seems like history, the present and probably the future pretty much have proven that old Joe hit the nail on the head. President Barack Obama has been caught several times in his lies. He himself IS A LIE and a FRAUD and an ILLEGAL PRESIDENT. Talking about putting on shoes to walk a picket line, in less than two years, if not before, Obama will be singing the old Nancy Sinatra song, “ These Shoes Are Made For Walking ”, not on the picket line, but in the unemployment line.
