Flashback: When ‘Job Creation’ Involved ‘Universal Child Care’ and ‘Sitting Home and Eating Bon-Bons’

Trevor Loudon over at NZ Patriot brings us this classic, possibly prophetic, 1997 clip from the National Jobs for All Coalition (which he cites as a “front for the Democratic Socialists of America”) conference.
In the clip, panelist Heidi Hartmann talks about how people at the time were starting to talk about universal health care as well as universal child care. We are very familiar with the health care arguments, but what arguments were they using for universal child care?
“…That in itself could be viewed as a job creation plan,” Hartmann said. In a nutshell the argument is jobs. But what comes before the ellipses is even more shocking. The “that” she’s referring to is this:
“Whether you’re working or not you would have access to child care, you could use it to go to school, you could use it to sit home, eat bon-bons and watch TV, we don’t care. That in itself could be viewed as a job creation plan.”
“Wouldn‘t that solve all of America’s problems?” Loudon asks.

I have an idea, if they are going to give these welfare takers a nanny then they must work or volunteer for 40 hours a week or they don’t get a check. Also, track down daddy and put him on the same plan. Fire the overpaid government workers and put these slugs to work mowing park lawns, cleaning public toilets, removing snow, remodeling buildings into decent apartments and redoing section 8 housing for the check and the nanny they are receiving on my tax dollar.
They wonder why the U.S. budget is bloated..entitlements like this are the reason. They only talk of cutting back on Social Security and Medicare that people have actually worked and payed into but never ever do they mention the slugs getting paid for having kids with out responsibility.

Our decision for me to stay home and raise our children up to school age is a *huge* burden on us financially that we gladly take on because it‘s what’s best for our children. We ask for no help as we struggle to make ends meet. For someone to talk about sitting around eating bon bons as “working” and trivializing the job at-home moms do just ticks me off!

This is from working and raising a family, to those who own part/fully a business and support other people while pursuing the freedoms to chase the dream of prosperity.
Only a Progressive would see sitting around and eating cupcakes and bon-bons all day as a form of Job creation (unless it means being a food taster for the Progressive office holder; make sure you are given generous life insurance terms too).

Well, it is; the socialism that she’s talking about is a real problem; but that aside, the real seriousness here is the level of conviction and authority that she speaks with when talking about stealing people’s money, calling it a tax.
What is it in liberal’s brains that allow them to confuse this “feeling” of empathy, that their looking out for the poor and disadvantaged, equates to justifiable theft of other’s money and property?
Or is it much simpler than that? Perhaps she, and all socialist liberals, they really know that stealing is morally wrong. Perhaps they do; but they also know that it looks a lot better when you do it under the disguise of charity.
And then, consider the profound clarity in which she speaks it all with, that she does it with conviction in her demeanor; she simply believes her own lies as a mechanism that recruits others to join her in her “feelings” of empathy. This is a level of narcissism that is essentially liberalism on display, and for us all to see. It balances and pivots on rationalizations that always can be deduced to contradictions in thought and philosophy. But dangerously, make no mistake about it; she will also feign the conviction that you, because you do not share in her feelings of empathy by allowing her to steal your money, it is you that are evil and corrupt.
And in that, they are thieves . . . they are wholly dishonest . . . they are corrupt . . . they are clandestine. They are the Democratic Party . . . they are socialists only in search of power.

Posted on November 16, 2010 at 12:49pmI would be OK with universal childcare if it meant that we eliminate welfare and food stamps at the same time. I know that it was very hard for me to get by when I had one kid in day care at a cost of about $360 per month. The women who have more than one child spends over half her income on daycare, assuming she makes over minimum wage. Give daycare but eliminate welfare now nobody has an excuse to sit home eating bon bons and give the chance for a mother to be able to afford to go to work. It would be a lot less costly to the taxpayer.
