Flip-Flop: Obama Admin Sends Signals That Gadhafi Can Stay in Power

On the Sunday news shows this morning, the Obama administration sent signals that Libya’s Moammar Gadhafi could stay in power–despite earlier statements from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama that Gadhafi must go.
On Fox News Sunday today, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs, said “We’re in a situation now that what we do will depend to some degree on what he does,” Mullen told Fox News Sunday.
“The focus of the United Nations Security Council was really Benghazi specifically and to protect the civilians,” Mullen said.
“Clearly we have taken down the important nodes that remove his capability,” the top-ranked US military officer said.
“This is not about going after Gaddafi himself or attacking him at this particular point in time. It is about achieving these narrow and relatively limited objectives so that he stops killing his people and so that humanitarian support can be provided.”
On “Meet the Press,” Mullen described the campaign’s aims as “limited,“ saying it ”isn’t about seeing him (Gadhafi) go.” Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Mullen was asked whether it was possible that the mission’s goals could be achieved while leaving Gadhafi in power.
“That’s certainly potentially one outcome,” he replied.
Pressed on this point later in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Mullen was more vague. “How this ends from the political standpoint, I just can’t say,” Mullen said. He said it was too early to speculate.
U.S. officials said at the outset of the missile strikes on Saturday that the goals are to prevent Gadhafi from inflicting further violence on his own people and to degrade his military’s ability to contest a no-fly zone. Mullen said Sunday that the no-fly zone was now in place, with Gadhafi having put no aircraft in the sky.
President Barack Obama, on an official visit to Brazil, held a conference call Sunday with top national security officials, including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Army Gen. Carter Ham, who as head of U.S. Africa Command is in charge of the Libya military operation. Ham’s headquarters are in Stuttgart, Germany.
Mullen said he thinks Gadhafi is more isolated than ever as a result of the no-fly zone and an arms embargo. He said the Libyan leader is “going to have to make some choices about his own future” at some point.
Mullen also said he hasn‘t seen any reports of civilian casualties as a result of the coalition’s military operation and that Gadhafi has resorted to using human shields in an attempt to prevent further attacks.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 2:27pmI have not been in the military. I do not claim to have knowledge of tactics or strategy. However, how can you protect civilians from their own government’s military without killing people in said military? How do you take out missile / air bases without using air strikes or missiles or troops planting explosives? People were going to die in these attacks on Gadhafi’s military. As far I as I know we have not created a weapon that only destroys materials while leaving humans untouched. With that said, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND thought we could join the British and French in ANY capacity and not be blamed by Socialists / Islamists / Anti-Western ideologues for the deaths that resulted? WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND thought that we could slap Gadhfi’s wrist, he would throw his hands up and and surrender AND the rest of the world would love us for it? When are people going to wake up and see that we need a leader for this great country, not an armchair quarterback? Like Ive said before this is Clinton 2.0.

I am suprised obummer is doing anything in Libya after kadaffi’s glowing endorsement of him in a speech at the UN 2 years ago. The speech that he called obummer a proud son of africa. Posted on March 20, 2011 at 2:09pmTwo Points,
1- When will the families and friends of the Pan Am 103 victims (189 Americans , 271 in total) from December 1988 (22 going on 23 years) finally receive justice, now that we know Qaddafi ordered this action and the Gordon Brown fiasco with one of the bombers, Al Meghari, being released for humanitarian reasons in August 2009? He was allegedly about to die but last time I looked he was still with us. Remembering one of the chants from the Rodney King affair in LA in 1992, a lot of Americans should be roaring “No Justice, No Peace” until Qaddafi and his sons are in the dock!
2- That being said, I have no confidence the current administration to achieve justice for the Pan Am 103 victims given their track record with Major Nidal Hassan of Fort Hood infamy. In fact they seem more concerned with people they know little about (the Libyan Rebels) that what these Americans think.

These attacks by UN forces, should say US because most warplanes are US” have killed more people than the minor war before it. Shame America, Shame US Military forces.
Senario: Protests through out the USA, Protesters attempting to shut down government in all states and DC. Millions of people, some getting out of hand and destroying things, looting and burning. The government starts trying to stop the riots and people are killed, People then turn to their own arms thus it becomes bloody. The military gets involved and starts to shoot people. Over the horizon comes Russia and China in order to save lives, bombing all state capitols and the capitol in DC. Who will you root for then?

Obama is way over his head. he thinks he can just smile and give a speech and the world will do what he wants. these wars we are in are not in the shape they are bedcause they were wong to get into. but because we got into them without a clear and unyeilding objective. both bush and obama think we can have it all. we are freedom fighters, or looking out for our interests? or figting terror or …what? i honestly wish it was blood for oil as the idiot left claimed because then at least we would have a clear objective and know when we are done, winning or loosing. instead we have a mishmash of conflicting goals, none of which are being attained. Im tired of being the world police. the world goes to hel and demands we save it while hating us and fighting us every step of the way. im sick of it. lets look out for AMERICA and our allies interests FIRST, LAST and SOLEY. let the rest of the world goto hell as long and we get what we need. time to be the “imperialists” the rest of the world whats to make believe we are

The one thing I will say is, What are the Libyan people going to do when the regime is toppled? Who takes over? What structure is there behind it? A lot of unanswered questions…seems to me that there has been plenty of time for an interim government to be planned…surely the people realize the need…however, that wouldn’t be in the best interest of furthering the Caliphate now would it? Glenn explained the Soros drive for “The Open Society”…what other outcome could there possibly be but to keep Gadhafi in power to further the Soros plan?

That would include the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the War against Islam, plus many other lesser known slaughterhouses, such as the terror war in Rhodesia. Let’s see; if we lie to the Congress, it’s a felony and if the congress lies to us its just politics; if we dislike a black person we’re racist and if a black dislikes whites, it’s their 1st Amendment right; the government spends millions to re-habilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims; in public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK, but you better not use the word God in the process; you can kill an unborn child, but its wrong to execute a mass murderer; we don’t burn books in America, we now rewrite them; we got rid of the communist and socialist threat by renaming them progressives; we are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have no problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obamas‘ policies you’re a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or George Bush in effigy it was your 1st Amendment right.
You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas; we have eliminated all criminals in America, they are now called sick people; we can use a human fetus for medical research, but it’s wrong to use an animal.
We take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don’t want to work; we all support the Constitution, but only when it supports our political ideology; we still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct; parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games; the land of opportunity is now the land of hand outs; the similarity between Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill is that neither president did anything to help.
And how do we handle a major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who’s at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes; tells us the problem is solved so they can get back to their reelection campaign.
Now more than ever we have to have confirmation from the United Nations. America – GET THE US OUT OF THE UNITED NATIONS NOW !!!

What has happened to the land of the free and home of the brave?

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 3:58pmTypical Obama… make some vague statements, then check the polls…. Then take a vague stance on an issue, and check the polls…. then give only minor clarification, then check the polls… Once your power base starts to dmand answers, trot out one cabinet member after another to take different positions, and see which one gives you the best chance to not pi$$ off your voting public.
We do not have a statesman in the White House, we have a politician. His policy will be based on polls for the remainder of his term.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 4:56pmAlso, just to clarify…this was reported yesterday, BEFORE the strikes were made…
“The West says that the goal of military operations is not to overthrow Qaddafi. U.S. Vice Admiral William Gortney said that the objective is to “deny the Libyan regime from using force against its own people.” French President Sarkozy said regime change is not being sought but Qaddafi must “allow the Libyan people to choose their own destiny.” The apparent goal is a ceasefire as Sarkozy stated the “door to diplomacy will reopen when the fighting will stop.”
Farrakhan, Gadhafi’s son…they are simply trying to “stir up the usual hatred for America”…Ghee Obama…I thought your appeasements and weakening of our stand in the world were all intended to make you the “King of the World” and assure that the world would continue it’s unrelenting fawning over you and your policies? Too bad…so sad…What an idiot!

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 6:03pmSo, Qaddafi must go has become he might stay.(Of course, no one would ever contemplate what would happen to the rebels once all the forces leave.) The Arab League and the Useless Nitwits approve the no-fly zone, but now they are against it since missiles have been used to take out SAM sites.(Did they expect the planes would just fly around in the sky?) There were multiple opinions in the regime, but now they are all on the same page.(No one would dare march to a different drummer than the O) The progs were against “Bush’s war,“ but now are for ”Obama’s war.”(To cite the new favorite phrase of Pope Pelosi, “We do it for the morality.”) I feel like I am watching the fish in a well-stocked pond that has been suddenly drained.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 11:45pmYou know, I’m not part of the decision making process, but it feels like we are making the same mistake we did with Iraq where we didn’t dislodge an evil dictator the first time. So it cost us triple in time and resources, and most importantly, it cost many more American soldier’s lives.

Posted on March 21, 2011 at 12:40amShould our Felon in Chief be found guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, shouldn’t our distinguished Admiral Mullen be found guilty of being an accomplice? The chain of command is in disarray and breaking down. Isn’t there one officer in the corps other than LTC Lakin who will stand up against the fraud in chief? God help us.
