Two people were hospitalized after the third floor of a New York City home collapsed during a raucous house party Saturday night.

As many as 100 people had attended the St. Patrick’s Day bash, which came to an abrupt halt when the floor gave way around 10:45 p.m., sending party-goers scrambling for their lives, the New York Post reported.

“My whole life just flashed before my eyes,” Chelsea Poyser, 16, told the New York Daily News.

Rescue crews removed eight people from the second floor by ladder, New York’s WABC-TV reported. A total of 12 people were injured, though 10 refused medical attention. Of the two people hospitalized, one was said to be in serious condition and the other was in stable condition.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation, though WABC reported that a previous complaint lodged against the building had been structural instability due to an illegal renovation.

One resident told the Post the noise from the party could be heard throughout the entire block.

“We couldn’t help but hear the noise, music, loud talking and yelling, then a lot of banging,” the resident said. “Then the noise stopped.”

People do not learn from other people’s unforunate mishaps.

How many times have people died from collapsing floors at a club?
    Is partying worth it?

I don’t know of any house upper floors which would be rated to hold over a 100 people. Seems like they broke code by holding the party. I just hope and pray the one in critical condition does not lose his/her life because they decided to throw a party with too many people.

If they don’t own the home, I would also suppose the owner can file a lawsuit against the group.

100+ people at wild house party. 16 year old interviewed. 10 injured refused medical attention. A bigger story here might be if there were any adults (21 or older) at the party and if alcohol or drugs were found by the investigators.

no there were no drugs or alcohol at this party. It would be the first time teenagers were drinking and getting high tho. and that would be crazy.

That’s just a minor revision of the executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by President Clinton, which was just a minor revision of the executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by President Reagan, and so on back to the first executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by FDR in 1939. If you don’t believe me, just look up the Clinton and Reagan executive orders which are revoked in section 803. In other words, this is a normal part of every President’s job that just seems sinister to paranoids who see everything that President Obama does part of some vast and overarching evil conspiracy.

Well. I have not seen very many houses with a ceiling/floor height of only 6′8″. That would leave the space between floor and actual ceiling at only 5′. You need to remember the floor is usually around 11.5″, then you have sheet rock for a lower ceiling and particle board for the upper floor. If the house was 60 yrs old or older, you are talking even smaller because it more than likely would be plaster. and I don’t see too many houses built for dwarfs.

Doorways are usually 6′8″. Standard houses, from ceiling to floor is at 8′6″ minus one layer Sheetrock and one layer particle board(ceiling/floor layers. So the actual drop would be 9′6″ (rounded down). In a lot of construction safety manuals indicates a fall at only 8′ could be fatal. Not to mention that she would be falling thru broke wood, pipes, wires, heating ducts and 100 people are crashing around her landing on who knows what below.

I would dare say this would be a scary thing even for someone that has had life experiences. Now for most normal teenagers, they had led a sheltered life, and I could see how this would truly be a point in where they could think that their life is in jeopardy.

I read about half of it and it made me too sick to continue. I don’t think it matters what happens in November any more. The tipping point has been reached and surpassed and there is no reversing the damage or changing direction in any appreciable way. We may not even make it to November without an “emergency” requiring government intervention. Yes, I am pessimistic. But am I wrong?

Just your typical New York Irish with their drunkeness, loud mouths, obscenities and failure to obey the law of gravity. Many of these party goers are most likely grand supporters of the New York City/Sodom life style. Today they can gorge on green beer and riot at Zuccotti; it is hard to imagine that people pay thousands of dollars per month to live in this cess pool of a city.

I agree with NY city being a cesspool. Don’t blame the Irish though for the collapse of the floor. If the Irish had built it would still be intact. Knowing this part of town, I would say it’s a bunch of wide-bottomed “eye-talian” gals hanging out the wife beater tee shirt crowd, lol. BADA BING!

Always remember… everybody is Irish on St. Paddy’s day… even wide-bottom gals of non-Irish descent… lmao.
