Florida Church Takes Heat for Publishing Prayer Request for...Osama bin Laden

WPTV-TV:

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The name of Osama bin Laden appears in the Holy Name of Jesus Sunday bulletin. There’s a cross next to it.

A parishioner made a prayer request for the mastermind behind the 9/11 attack on America.

A church secretary took the Mass intention a week ago. She admitted she thought it was a joke at first. But few are laughing.

“I think it’s totally wrong, he doesn’t belong in the Catholic religion. For what he did to Americans, he doesn’t belong anywhere,” says Lois Pizzano, a Catholic Church member. “It’s unconscionable, it’s sacrilegious,”  said Pizzano.

I’m a Christian and I say pray all you want to, but it’s to late now. It‘s in God’s hands now! To me just knowing that OBL knows the Truth now and knowing he’s already fallen to his knees and is begging for mercy is Justice to me. “ Every knee will bow and Every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord”.

These people don’t understand the function of Prayer.

Prayer is an *act of your Will* to bring a matter or individual to the attention of God. Just as you would bring an ore to the furnace.

Its the function of bringing to God’s attention… anything you want Him to consider… because its your Will and you are asking Him to. And he acts upon your request/concern as a function of Love.

Prayer is asking God to *act on your behalf* in ways that are not within your scope of power where the root motivation is one of the functions of Love.

You must *ask God* to act for *God to take action* He will act according to your concerns only if you ask him.

Understand Gods actions as you understand the functions of Love… Love doesn’t force… it asks… and if you don’t ask… it wants to act on your behalf, but it can’t… it wants to help but it needs you to ask for it. It wants to be involved in your life… but not unless you ask it to… though it will protect you from evoL as far as it can without your request as a function of Love… it cannot defend one that willfully commits evoL.

Oh, one more thing: Christians do not pray for somebody AFTER he or she is dead. At that point, I hate to let you in on this, it is too late.

Pray for people to be saved while they are here, on Earth, so they can make a decision to accept salvation. If you are here, make your decision NOW because once you are dead, you WILL deal with the decision to accept or reject salvation while you were living.

Once folks have passed, that decision can no longer be made.

Education time again. Christians have been praying for the departed for centuries. Entire foundations have been set up and funds bequeathed so that masses will be said and prayers offered for the dead. Nothing to do with this story, just an attempt to correct another error – and yes Dog Of Gawd as you said I’m probably wasting my time. Liberal Atheist – I‘m making no claims of the efficacy of prayer so please don’t misread this post.

True Christians do not pray for the spirit of evil and deception just as Jesus does not pray for the devil. Fact is Christ came to kick the devil’s butt. Um, the Bible says it differently, but you get the drift.

Evil is the enemy. Evil is not worthy of prayer. Evil cannot be changed. Bin Laden was evil incarnate.

And so his death was the victory of good over evil. Simple as that. Moving on.

As a Christian I completely understand. As a patriot it pains me. But I am a Christian first:

Matthew 5-43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’[a] and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies![b] Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

If Osama asked Jesus for forgiveness a few seconds before he got popped by the SEALs he would be in Heaven though. That’s how Christianity works.

Think of it – it’s at least theoretically possible for Osama Bin Laden to have gotten into heaven.

Another example of critical thinking? LOL…Just before he’s popped he just falls on his knees and begs God for forgiveness. Yeah sure. It doesn’t work that way. Repentance is a grace. But being an atheist you wouldn’t understand that. People go where they choose to go a million times over the course of their lives….growing in one direction or another by their own free will.

The only prayers worth praying in this case are prayers thanking God for finally putting UBL where he belongs.

Whether you like him or not, UBL needs prayers as well, in fact, it could be said that he needs more prayers than people who, say, haven’t killed 3000+ people. Our Lord didn’t tell us to pray only for people we like, no, He told us to love our enemies, regardless of religious affiliation, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of their actions.
I would, however, question the parish bulletin’s placing of a cross beside the name of UBL. Don’t put one there, UBL was not Catholic so there’s no reason to put it there, it doesn’t make sense.
True Pro-Lifers, people who value life as sacred at all stages, cannot ever celebrate killing, even of monsters such as UBL. UBL was evil. He was a monster. I’m not backing him up. Be consistent, people!

No one said it will ever be easy, I have enough problems as well with others in my life history; yet I also have to do the example Lord Jesus followed. It is by learning to have mercy and forgivness, not forgetting the lessons learned, that we come closer to understanding parts of God’s plan of mercy and salvation for humanity.

Though every time I understand a part of it, it amazes me how great He truly is, and how low I really am in the greater scheme of things.

Just as your son Jesus was so unjustly murdered by His enemies and yet forgave, so also help us to forgive Osama BIn Laden and his followers for those of us who were, and shall be murdered. Please grant us your grace and love to do this thing which our flesh cries out so loudly against. Cause these terrible acts to turn around to your great glory and to the salvation of those who hate us without a cause. Open their eyes and soften their hearts so that perhaps we can call them our brothers. Forgive us for our unforgiveness and change our hearts. When our anger rises in our hearts help us to remember your counsel to forgive them seventy times seven. For them who have ears to hear…in Jesus Holy Name…Amen

You want the theological answer? We live in a spritual economy of love. We can purchase grace for others by our prayers. Christ set the example. Love and justice my friend. Can’t have one without the other.

As Chaplain SNOWLEOPARD teaches his or her flock on Sundays in his or her church, and here daily, we should pray for those who would harm us. God does not require us to lay down our arms in the face of an enemy, but He does require that we not hate them and that we do seek peace with them. I’m sure pastor SNOW agrees.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34).

But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you (Luke 6:27-28).

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse (Romans 12:14).

We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it (1 Corinthians 4:12).

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:17-21).

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9).

What a bunch of hypocrites you people are! You call yourselves Christians and then you condemn all the members of the Roman Catholic Church, the largest denomination in the world and the church that Christ himself founded! How dare you judge all Catholics based on a silly petition that was in a bulletin at one random church in West Palm Beach! How dare you say that Catholics aren’t Christians! This “news” article shouldn’t even be on this website, it would be better suited to the National Enquirer. I guess it shows some of the “religious” bias that the Mormons and other so called “Christian” churches have for Catholics. We have been just as persecuted as the Jews throughout history because our church IS the reformed Jewish church. All I know is that in the end– we win. When Christ installed Peter, the rock, as the first POPE he told him that “the gates of hell will not prevail against it”. Christ was referring to the Holy Catholic Church.

After the initial shock, the first thing I did was pray for the repose of his soul. We Catholics pray and hope for the salvation of ALL of God’s creatures. These “Christians” who are shocked and outraged need to check with their Bible. We are to love and pray for our enemies.

@ SnakeEyes – Are you really trying to claim that the Catholic church has faced persecution historically like the Jews? And Jesus did not found the Catholic church, he founded The Church. The Bible doesn’t say anything about a Pope, Jesus is the head of the church. The Catholic church has strayed so far from the Bible that it is barely recognizable in places.
