Florida D.A. Fired for Talking About Constitution Settles Case

A former Florida assistant state attorney who lost her job over teaching about the Founding Fathers and the Constitution settled her case for an undisclosed amount Thursday against the Florida state attorney who fired her.

KrisAnne Hall was fired last year after participating in a number of political speaking engagements, including at tea party rallies and on talk radio, in which she discussed her originalist views of the Constitution. Her boss, State Attorney Robert “Skip” Jarvis, said he received a complaint about her activities and gave what Hall described as an “ultimatum,” telling her to choose between her speaking engagements and her job.

“I told him I could not make that choice. I believe that my First Amendment right is my right and I would not stop speaking,” Hall said in an interview with The Blaze.

Hall subsequently filed a federal lawsuit after her dismissal, alleging her rights had been violated and Jarvis had no standing to order her to stop speaking on her own time. Both parties agreed to settle the case Thursday.

Hall would not discuss details of the settlement, except to say she was very satisfied and had her attorney fees paid. She will not be returning to the state attorney’s office.

“I believe strongly that I was within my constitutional right and within Supreme Court precedent,” she said.

Florida D.A. Fired for Talking About Constitution Settles CaseSince her firing, Hall said she has “made it a ministry” during the past year to continue to lecture about the Founders’ original intent. She published a book, “It’s Not a Living Breathing Document: Reclaiming Our Constitution” and is working on another one about the Second Amendment. She has also produced a workshop teaching about the Bill of Rights.

“We are sorely lacking in history,” Hall said. “Part of where we have fallen amiss is the fact that we don’t teach history anymore and we have perpetuated this sort of lie that the Constitution is a living, breathing document.”

She estimated that she speaks to about eight groups per month. Her website states, “Civic groups, schools, homeschoolers, churchs…any group, any size.”

“I really believe if we are going to make serious progress in this country we need to teach people,” Hall said. ”Change is not what we need to restore our country…you cannot turn around a ship without a compass.”

“I didn’t choose for this to happen,” she said. “But it’s been a blessing in disguise.”

You have a person educating people about the U.S. Constitution on their own time and her boss acts on a single “complaint” and gives her an ultimatum. But her boss is a state attorney. One complaint about a member of his staff teaching America’s Constitution and he takes action. Not two complaints. Not three or four complaints. Just one complaint!

The state of Florida it appears has a hate America lawyer working for the state, who has a vendetta going on in his mind. The governor and people of the state of Florida needs to take action against this clown Jarvis. It is Jarvis that is in need of an ultimatum!

I believe it scares Democrats to death to think that Conservatives are learning and interested in the Constitution. They perceive this not as a good thing because government is a powerful and threatening institution to many and they want it to stay that way – in fact, they want it to grow bigger. I believe the true fear is this might catch on; people might really start understanding the Constitution because today’s government seems steeped in anything but the Constitution. What we have now seems to be smoke, mirrors, lies and deceit. Oh! And don’t forget “sound bites!”

I like her. She’s got guts. She didn’t care that her boss told her to shut up. This is what you get when progressives get control. Shut up or…… loose job / go to jail / face lawsuit / face intimidation tactics / etc. You get the picture. Just shut up, sit down, and don’t say a word. What a great utopia they are creating. The problem with socialistic views is that when you cannot control the people any longer the tactics have to gradually become harsher to maintain control. The end result, as history has shown, usually includes the deaths of thousands of people. Socialism and Communism are the dirtbags of history and our leaders seem to be pursuing them emphatically.

What scares me is that Robert Jarvis hasn’t been fired. He was taking the same position as the Libs. Knowledge of the Constitution is cause for immediate removal. It‘s one reason that our kids aren’t taught American History. Knowledge is dangerous to them.

Sovereign….. would you want to go back to work for an organization that isn’t like minded—so much so that you are terminated for it?
She probably got a nice chunk of change and had the “termination” stricken from her employment record. The victory is in that she was obviously wrongfully terminated and with a settlement, they are basically conceding that. What more would a lawsuit in court bring? More money? The right to her job back? Like I said… I wouldn’t want to go back to work there.

Where did that chunk of change come from? Her boss or you and me? She chose to settle out of court and put herself ahead of her ideals. Her boss is still in his position. They have admitted no wrongdoing. She’s just one more person looking out for number one.

The important question is, why would she be fired for speaking about the constitution?

Answer: Because the constitution is an obstacle to progressives. It is their bane.

We do need more people like her. Too many groups are trying and succeeding at dismantling our country.
