Florida Politician Attempts to Block Islamic Animal Slaughter Ceremony

Sunrise Commissioner Sheila Alu Tries to Block Islamic Animal Slaughter

A Florida city commissioner is cracking down on the Islamic slaughter of lambs and goats. Sunrise Commissioner Sheila Alu has attempted to block a Muslim religious ceremony that involves the ritualistic killing of these animals this upcoming Sunday.

Muslims from various mosques in the area had planned to come together at a farm to participate in the religious slaughter. The festival, called Eid ul-Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” honors Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son (although, as the story goes, God ended up providing a lamb for sacrifice instead).

In addition to commemorating this event, the day also marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims are encouraged to make during their lifetime. However, the ritualistic murder of animals was too much for Alu to bear.

On Wednesday, she discussed her efforts to squash the event. ”Yes, I was trying to stop it,” she said. “It’s shut down. I’m trying to protect innocent animals. This is not an appropriate setting for the slaughtering of animals in an open field in a city that’s as populated as Sunrise. Usually these religious ceremonies take place in a rural area.”

While some may assume that her actions are rooted in anti-Islamic sentiment, she explains, ”I have no ill will toward the Muslim faith. I’m just an animal lover.” She continues:

“I don‘t want to interfere with anyone’s religious beliefs, but if you want to slaughter animals it should be done in a slaughterhouse. They stab them in the throat. It’s horrible.”

Nezar Hamze, the executive director of the South Florida Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), is less than content with her decision. “This is very upsetting,” he said. “I’m very disappointed in that. We asked for permission and went through the proper channels and now it’s off because a commissioner has a problem with it.”

Hamze claims that the sacrifices are done according to both state and Islamic law. He characterizes the practice as “humane” and claims that the animals’ throats are slit very quickly and that they do not suffer during the process.

After she learned that she couldn’t legally prevent the ceremony, Alu decided to call someone who works for the farm’s owners. She claims the man told her that the owners weren’t aware of the event that was going to take place and that permission had improperly been given.

Despite Alu’s efforts to derail the slaughter, Hamze claims that a new, undisclosed venue has been found and that it will be proceeding as originally planned. As for his opinion on Alu, whom he has spoken with, he claims that he believe‘s she’s simply a big animal lover and that he doesn’t think she has any malice toward the Muslim community.

Jews are also well known for their barbaric butchering processes.. Was a big deal back in Europe in the early 20th century and it’s a big deal today in Europe. Maybe Beck and the Blaze will educate Americans on their rituals??? I once tried showing a video of it but you know the Blaze blocks anything that’s deemed derogratory towards Israel. Very unfortunate but true.

I think this is wrong. Who cares if the killing is ritualistic, I doubt they are just going to throw the meat away, and you can’t eat live meat… you keep having to catch the animals, then you have to keep re-seasoning the meat… just too hard.

There needs to be a public outcry against this, we are supposed to have freedom of religion, and muslims ritualistically killed animals back when the founding fathers were around, so this is precisely what they were protecting.

Only in a crazy world could the majority side with a soulless animal over the deeply held beliefs and freedom of human beings who have to answer to God.

This is NOTHING that our founding fathers wanted to protect idiot. Our founding fathers were Christians, and in no way in Hell did they ever think our constitution would be protecting muslims (who at the time were kidnapping white Christians for slavery). The freedom of religion clause was instituted to stop government from creating it’s own religion and forcing the community to adapt that religion, not to allow a bunch of muslims to commit animal sacrifice. Get a life, read an effing book, don’t speak about things of which you apparently know nothing.

Ya, Even in the way back times of the founding fathers people sacrificed animals, and yet there was no law against it dating back to those time, yeah it;s an argument from silence, but it’s backed up by logic.

I will defend their right to sacrifice animals even though I think they are sacrificing it to the devil

If we don’t rally support for the those we disagree with in their religious practice, when we become the religious minority they will also have no thought for our religious rights.

Call it Karma, call it the golden rule, call it cosmic quid pro quo, it happens, take a larger view of history and you can see it, focus in too close and you miss it.

Judge not, lest ye be judged, For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again

There is the Bible (KJV just in case)

We MUST defend them or we will not be defended. If I have to stand alone on this I will, just as I will defend Israel’s right to exist, even though I find it distasteful, this country is supposed to be about freedom for people, not freedom for animals.

      This is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashrut
      Kosher (Jewish) slaughter
Mammals and fowl must be slaughtered by a trained individual (a shochet) using a special method of slaughter, shechita (Deuteronomy 12:21). Among other features, shechita slaughter severs the jugular vein, carotid artery, esophagus and trachea in a single continuous cutting movement with an unserrated, sharp knife, which is intended to avoid unnecessary pain to the animal as consciousness is lost quickly due to loss of cerebral blood pressure.
I prefer the bolt through the brain method. It’s instant death. A captive bolt stunner is applied to the livestock so as to produce immediate unconsciousness in the animals before they are bled.

Before the Eid-ul-Zuha festival, every Muslim father brings home a baby goat (kid) and tells his child to play with that kid. As days pass, the child grows fond of the goat-kid for some days and when the day of Eid-ul-Zuha comes when the child is shocked to see that his pet goat is slaughtered in front of his entire gleeful and cheering family. The child feels guilty, he cries and asks for his friend (the goat-kid) to be spared. But when the goat is slaughtered in spite of this, and the child is told that this is part of Muslim tradition – the child is bewildered.

The flower of Islam. Animal sacrifice and ritual child abuse all rolled into one happy holiday.

I agree, their religion is horrifying, Just unimaginably cruel and completely backwards, I could neither condone it, nor would I allow my children to come into close contact with the believers of that religion. BUT many of them believe they are honoring God by what they are doing.

IS THIS AMERICA? Do we have the freedom to follow our beliefs about God? Or is it only the ones that middle-class white people have? What if the majority decided it was sick and wrong for a pastor on a stage to preach every sunday and the govt stopped that? Try to think about this a little harder. What we allow ourselves to do to them will happen to us as their number comes closer to parity with our own (see mark steins book). You are thinking selfishly if you think we do not need to stand up for their rights, and if we behave as a selfish people God will judge it.

It is not the sacrifice so much, but the social context in which it is carried out.

It teaches the child that their culture is based on deception on death.

Are you unaware of the entirety of the Mosaic Law that is built upon animal sacrifice. God required sacrifice numerous times before that in the OT. If you blame Muslims you indict what God did.

That seems to me both arrogant and foolish.

But look at it this way, since they have animal sacrifice built into their religious consciousness we can explain to them the sacrifice that Christ made, and how that is superior to all of their sacrifices. That’s what the author of Hebrews did.

@CAPITALISMROCKS I was just wondering…does the Constitution allow the takeover of our government by a theocracy? Because that is what Islam is….It is not a religion…it is a government enshrouded in a religion whose purpose is to take over the entire world and kill every infidel…those not accepting Sharia Law which means that they must become a Muslim.. They are infiltrating our government via the Presidency and as I have stated before..after Al Franken lost to the republican senator in Minnesota..and Bill and Hillary went there to find more car trunk votes than people registered to vote in the state of MInn.. old Al ‘s job was to go to Arab countries and offer 300-350 jobs in government to muslims..Then in a bill.. Obama set aside 20 million to relocate Hamas Pakistanis to here… I cannot get a figure on how many black Somali muslims Obama has imported and the Catholic Church has been placing a good many of those… So …how‘s that Constitution thing going to work out for you when Obama has replaced a Supreme Court Justice who is pro Sharia Law and has helped with it’s enforcement in Arab countries and Obama and Hilary used our military to take down dictators (our friends) to prop up Sharia Law in the middle east…. it’s just a short time before it overtakes us. Got any ideas on that Capitalism Rocks?

Well I have voiced in numerous posts that in fact we need a law passed stating that Constitutional law is the highest law of the land and laws broken that violate national laws may not be exempt due to religious exemptions… its like with polygamy — if its a religious thing to have 5 wifes and they are all under age and so forth and that is part of someone’s religion, well that goes against US laws and they are the highest held, that is polygamy and statutory rape… go directly to jail.

I am not equating a ritual of slaughtering some animals in the same way as an honor killing or demanding my wife walk 5 paces behind me and be wrapped up like a one of the emperor‘s guards from Star Wars in their burkka’s and such.

“I don‘t want to interfere with anyone’s religious beliefs, but if you want to slaughter animals it should be done in a slaughterhouse. They stab them in the throat. It’s horrible.”

This country was getting to the point where we were beginning to be more aware of the needless suffering of little animals. Then the doors were opened and in poured third world hordes who practice ritualistic animal slaughter under the guise of some kooky religion, when the fact of the matter is that their disgusting practice came about as the result of their abysmal desire to satisfy a blood lust. In other words they pretend it’s a religious experience when it is obvious they do it because they like it.

How this politician can say she has “nothing against Muslims” after witnessing their barbaric, cruel crimes against defenseless little animals is way beyond me. Obviously, she’s been so thoroughly indoctrinated into the diversity, love and tolerance mode by master propagandists she’s afraid to openly criticise them and their barbaric practise for feare of being called a hater or racist.

It’s like the fool who said, “I don’t mean to sound racist, but I think it’s wrong to stone a woman to death for simple adultery or cutting offhands and feet for petty theft.” In other words the fear of being called names is worse than being guilty of barbaric, cruel practices.

So you are making a RELIGIOUS argument as to animal sacrifices should cease? I agree with your argument. But thta‘s because I’m a Christian. But how can we impose that on others who aren’t christian.

As for the manner of killing the goats being cruel? Because they are stabbed in the throat. Give me a break. That is not cruel.Th animal is not made to suffer. It is being slaughtered, and in a way that was considered swift and merciful before huns existed. They’re not burning it alive, like some other pagan religions did.

I don’t like the encroachment of Islam any more than anyone else, and I’m not keen on needless killing of animals. But I am not about to support the erosion of basic religious freedoms on the basis of vague and evolving liberal sensitivies about what is cruel treatment of animals by the same government that won’t do anything about the slaughter of the unborn.

I’m a PETA member, and I’m disgusted by this, but I’m equally disgusted by murder that occurs in “rural areas” and slaughterhouses, for food, fun or sacrifice. I hope one day God treats us all the way we’ve treated the animals.

Does PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) feel the same way about unborn human fetuses?
