NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A man’s rare coin collection worth about $1 million was scattered along Interstate 95 when the collector’s car was involved in a rollover crash near mile marker 250 on Thursday evening.
A Boca Raton couple was heading north to a coin show in Jacksonville when the back passenger-side tire blew out in Volusia County.
The SUV rolled, flipping as many as five times, police said.
The rare collection went flying out of the car, spilling across the median.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 8:57pmAlso, it’s hard to give kudos to the police these days when they do stuff like this: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread710123/pg1
So when they do something good, I try to give credit where it’s due. Most LEO’s are good, honest people, it’s just small percentage of them that do stuff like this that makes the rest look bad…

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 7:46pmThanks God they didn’t get any serious injuries. That says a lot about the Florida State Troopers… actually taking the time to help find this guy’s coin collection, when most LEO’s would just rush him to the ambulance, fill out the paperwork and go about their day. I have yet to meet an FHP trooper that I didn’t like, or who thought he was a God because he has a badge and a gun, can’t say the same for the county boys, but the FHP troopers are a class act. Hope this guy gets all of his collection back, and I hope he realizes it‘s not worth anywhere near what he and his wife’s lives are.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 6:03pmKind of interesting that they felt the need to tell the mile marker where the crash happened. Kind of a “here is where you can find a million $ but don’t go there….wink wink!”

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 4:15pmCan’t cure stupid. A million in coins and you can’t spend 30 bucks at Wally World to get a fireproof safe that has a handle and a lock? I have one that is half the size of a brief case and easily carried.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 1:21pmI pray that the husband & wife will be ok. Glad troopers are guarding the area & friends are using metal detectors to help locate the coins. I don‘t know what is in these people’s hearts, or what their purpose in collecting the coins is, therefore, I will not judge them. It is none of my business. Our home was robbed years ago. One of the items stolen was my husband’s coin collection which was handed down from generation to generation to generation… The History in who touched the coins was meaningful to my husband. The robbery hurt.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 7:56amIf the coins shown in the video were representative of the entire collection the value of $1M is dubious. Smells of insurance fraud in the making.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 8:31amJas0707 I was thinking also it was going to take a LOT of mercury dimes to make up a million dollars. But if they were headed to a coin show they probably really did have it.. Maybe they were just not showing the expensive ones so more people would not be tempted to go look. I am thankful that the Troopers and other collectors came to look. I hope they find it all. That is such a shame. I pray both passengers will fully recover.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 7:44amI feel for this couple who lost there entire life’s savings and almost their life during the car crash. I assume there was no effort made to secure the coins which were scattered over I-95 I only hope that Americans show their love for their brother and return all found coins in that area to the couple who lost them during this horrible accident.
I hope that this couple survives the rollover of their vehicle. I would advise this couple to investigate what caused the rear tire to fail, which was the cause of the accident.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 7:30amAll I could think of was, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal….”
Bless their hearts.
We all do that, don’t we? Our treasures may not be that valuable to the world, but they are to us. And, to lose any or all of our treasures would hurt us deeply. Not to mention the injuries they’ve got to overcome.
Thank YOU GOD that this is still AMERICA. Chances are real good had that happened in any other country in the world, the “coins and bills” would have all disappeared at the scene of the crash.
GOD BLESS the couple in the accident and all the people who stopped / came out to help. GOD BLESS the troopers!
