“You have to listen,” Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., scolded Fox News’ Megyn Kelly during an on-air interview Wednesday afternoon.
A testy Weiner took to the cable news airwaves to condemn President Barack Obama’s proposed “compromise” on an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts. But a conversation that started out focused on Obama’s decision to work with congressional Republicans quickly turned into a combative exchange in which Mediaite notes the congressman displayed no patience for Kelly’s questioning, “interrupting, sighing, looking away, clapping his hands and clearly crossing the line into condescension.”
Props to Megyn for keeping her cool.

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 10:42pmI see the left side of this argument. They are stating, that for the heirs, this is unearned income therefore needs to be taxed. The money has gone from one person to another, and like many other instances where money changes hands, the government wants their piece of that pie. The Weiner from NY (ugh) feels he has found a cash cow, he can generate all that tax revenue and only effect a handful of voters. This is a win/win for them because the political fallout will be minimum but the tax revenue will be enormous.
The point that our government makes again and again is that it needs more tax income then it has coming in. It needs to raise this money so it can go to China or India or any other emerging market and sell them some more of our bonds next year. If we have no buyers for our bonds, we cannot sustain the government programs we have put in place and therefore poverty will shock this nation.
It is too much to ask the pols in this country to scale themselves back first? Before they put the citizens of this country on a forced austerity, they themselves should do their share to decrease their overhead.

It’s a tax on the heirs for unearned income, meaning the heirs did not earn it. The estate is taxed not the deceased person. If a working person pays taxes shouldn’t Paris Hilton when she gets a billion dollars for simply being born the great grand-daughter of a hotel magnate?
The top 1% have 90% of the wealth in this country. A 0% estate tax would eventually lead to all the wealth held by just a few families. This is no longer about small businesses or family farms. We have multi-billionaires who are in position that enables them to devour enormous amounts of wealth. Do we want an American royalty of generations holding that wealth tax free forever and the rest of us have a declining standard of living because so much capital is owned by just a few?

There is very little data about the distribution of wealth in America. There is one source, the Survey of Consumer Finances, sponsored by the Federal Reserve Board, that does provide data from 1983.
These data suggest that wealth is concentrated in the hands of a small number of families. The wealthiest 1 percent of families owns roughly 34.3% of the nation’s net worth, the top 10% of families owns over 71%, and the bottom 40% of the population owns way less than 1%.

I would bet dollars to donuts that number doesn’t…..conversly I know that providing tax relief increase economic growth which in turn increase tax revenues in land values, sales tax, pay roll taxes and federal income taxes on high incomes. The taxes were already paid on the money in the estate.

With regards to estate tax….The casino example is ridiculous… Is that money being won at the slot machines being taxed to that individual before it is won and again afterwards???? Estate monies are already taxed while the person who has the estate is alive. Anthony, check out Soros money and how much taxes are paid to this country. He donates his money….that is for sure… but what about a comparison of his tax payments on his income… Get back to us Anthony on this.

They are fighting each other, within, and then they fight with anyone and everyone. Some of them don’t even make sense as what I saw on MSNBC last night, talking to some Senator or whatever from Florida last night about raising taxes from 10 to 15% in Florida or somewhere…I was laughing too hard to get it all. It was so hilarious seeing them panic and whine and cry and bicker with one another. This month has been so rewarding after putting up with them for 2 years. THANK GOD ALMIGHTY for seeing us through this and giving us back the House. Thanks, God. Those who do believe that YOU are the Creator of the Heavens and earth, do glorify and thank you for what you are doing so far (confusion among the Dems – like the tower of Babel). Now, Americans, continue praying daily for this country and for those men and women who are new in the House this coming 2011. Keep them all in your prayers for God’s guidance and strength. It has nothing to do with his spending habits. He needs to take more from us to solve the problems because, as he clearly demonstrated in his actions with Ms. Kelly, he’s much smarter than we are.

I usually try to avoid this to eliminate repeating myself, but the FairTax would eliminate this issue because how anybody obtaines their money (including unearned income) is irrelevent until they spend it.
