New Airport Security Vid Shows Calm Rand Paul Despite Cops‘ Claim He Was ’Irate’

Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) spat with TSA captured headlines on Monday after he was “detained” (the TSA claims he was merely “stopped”) at the Nashville airport. The drama unfolded after the senator refused to undergo a full-body pat-down after something on his person triggered a millimeter-wave machine. While at least one police report described Paul as “irate” during the standoff, security footage obtained from the incident appears to show him cool, calm and collected.

(Related: Rand Paul Reveals TSA Theory to Beck: Scanners Go Off to Justify ‘Random’ Patdowns)

One of the videos, released by the Metro Airport Authority, has been published on The Nashville Tennessean‘s web site. Rather than exposing a “passenger being irate,” as a police incident report claimed, Paul is seen in the videos sitting, talking on his cell phone and standing. The Tennessean has more:

…videos released by the Metro Airport Authority late Wednesday show Paul entering the security line at 7:57 a.m. and then alternately sitting and standing in a glass cubicle while being watched by authorities. Paul appears to make a few phone calls as well.

Paul is shown being escorted by an airport official at 9:04 a.m. Paul rebooked his flight and later went through security without incident.

Following the incident, the TSA reiterated that it is protocol for them to refer to law enforcement officers when a passenger refuses to go through the proper screen process. While this is the case, the alleged discrepancy between Paul’s reported behavior and what the video shows has not addressed.

As the Blaze reported, the senator’s father, U.S. Rep Ron Paul, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination, issued a statement following the incident in which he lamented the “police state.”

There is a uniformed policeman right outside the cubicle door. When he went to leave, that cop prevented his leaving.

    THAT IS CALLED A DETENTION.

Of course invading libya was not called a war either.

like i have said on here before: cops lie, all the time. It doesn’t matter what they are doing, but lying is part of their code. Radar, work, traffic work, criminal investigation- they lie and most times try to incite people into making bad decisions. watch any investigative show and see how pissed the cops get when suspects ask for a lawyer. Read your local newspaper police blotter section and you will see a bunch of people charged with 10 crimes from 1 traffic stop.

Not gonna happen friend – we’re going to stroll right in with a smile.

I’ve spoken to many different people. Often hear “people will get their guns and take out anybody who tries to take over our lives”. Problem is (as you know) its not going to be as clear cut as Obama saying “all of you are now slaves and have no rights”. Its more simple like a drop on a bar of soap. A steady drip eating all the way through.

      One drip example.
When the TSA began its x-rays & patdowns. I was in class and argued against EVERYBODY including the professor. I said they are taking away our right of privacy in order to try and catch the terrorists which actually amount to about .01% of total passengers. If TSA actually wanted to catch terrorists, there are better ways to go about it. Entire class agreed with “invasive searches for safety”.

They will get their guns and fight like the Wolverines if someone tries to take away our rights overnight. However, slowly suffocate them into submission, nobody cares.

Rand obviously does not know what is best for him. There’s nothing immoral about a benevolent leviathan making sure you are safe.
I’m sure that many people think that way, including many of you all who visit this site. The truth of the matter is, however, Obama, Gingrich, Romney, or Santorum the “Jesus candidate,” will do absolutely nothing to curb the TSA, let alone demolish it. Do you know why? Because it’s not unions, or your privacy, or even your security, they give a ratt’s behind about. They WILL KEEP the TSA alive and well because they only care about their own power ultimately. If a terrorist happens to get thru and cause some damage in lives and property, the only thing that will be of concern for whoever holds the office of the president, is–oh my God! This has ruined my chances at reelection, it’s over. And that is why the TSA will never be abolished, EVER, and to think that it really has nothing to do with you; you mean nothing when there is power to gain. I only know of one candidate who will cut the damn thing out right away and leave it up to the individual airlines and airports, and the PRIVATE SECTOR. You all know which one I’m talking about. I forgot you can‘t mention his name on here cuz he’s just a big ol’ buzzkill.
Question: After the intensifyed vigilance that we as a nation share, not the government, since 9/11. Do you really think that we are about to let another 9/11 happen? Do you think that an airline wants to go out of business?

I flew commercial for over 43 years to almost every continent and major city in the world to where I enjoyed Continental Platinum status. Before that I flew about 7 years with the US Navy. I have seen the most lax of airport security in Africa and the most secure in Israel. I have never seen a more punitive organization than the present TSA under John S. Pistole, Janet Napolitano and bho. These people take “by the book” to an extreme that borders on abuse. They do not factor in common sense, September 11, 2001 made us aware of some changes that needed to be made. Big Sis, Pistole and bho think the “feel up” TSA pat down is OK for regular Americans. So do the muslim terrorists who are laughing at these catch up fools so hard they are falling out of their caves. Pistole, Big Sis led by the “molester in chief” have reacted to every threat and have not been the least bit proactive. Andy and Barney of Mayberry were much more effective than these fools just by being aware of their surroundings. The TSA has yet to catch a bad guy, but have a million pocket knives, fingernail clippers, traumatized children and embarrassed violated grandmothers. They are untouchable gov thugs similar to acorn and seiu thugs. If they are not feeling up the latest victim, they are on break or just standing around talking. So far the victims are old men and women, good looking women and kids. I have not seen them take on a 6’ 2” muscular white guy or a tall black panther type. They must

There have been others, about people getting kicked off airlines (middle aged professional Jewish women from Florida), people publicly humiliated because of their clothing (Muslims), just awful treatment.

The Blazers for the most part stand on the side of Authority and brute Power, and are happy to see others singled out and punished. This is especially true when the victims are members of an already disadvantaged minority: women, Jews, gays, blacks, teenage college students, poor people, etc.

But this story, this story has Rand Paul as its centerpiece, and now the Blazers will have a conflict of interest. They like Rand Paul.

Incredible? That a person was picked at random for questioning/search, as opposed to profiling those who likely may do harm?
After pulling his pantleg up to show there was nothing hidden underneath, Paul was told by two TSA’s that it was a random stop.
The thing many don’t realize is that besides the class warfare that our government is promoting, incidents like this (not profiling those likely to commit terrorism) will divide us further. Americans will, at some point, act out against this unreasonable invasion of privacy. Americans will be pitted against Americans.

Rand Paul, taking after his father, has been provided a first hand experience on what so many of us deal with in the bureaucratic realm. It doesn’t matter what governmental office you become involved with, they are all set up the same. They all take advantage of the power they believe they have, and then make a determination that you, the tax payer, is causing them a distraction and therefore you need to simply go away. They fail to understand the very nature of how they are able to wear their uniform or occupy their position.

Simply put, the stupidity of the TSA to not be certain that their random checks don’t occur with the very elected body that oversees them is a great example of the value of such agency.

Why should he be ticked off to begin with. It was nothing but a Paul Rand publicity stunt.
It is routine to go into one of those glass areas if the scanner gos off. My husband has an artificial hip and he has to do it all the time. And no one is suppose to have a cell phone going through security. Every passenger must turn off their cell and put it into the container. Passengers in these secure areas are only given their Stuff in containers after they have had a wand or pat down which is normal procedure. If it was him and he had his cell he has already gone through the extra security process.
