EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Paintings done by a rhinoceros at Evansville’s zoo over the last several months are now up for sale to the public.
Mesker Park zookeeper Jill Remington tells the Evansville Courier & Press the rhino named Mechi uses paint on her lip to make the paintings. She says Mechi often doesn’t want to stop.
Zoo staffers had seen rhinos paint in other zoos, and Mesker’s previous rhino had done it and seemed to enjoy it. Mechi began doing the artwork soon after arriving at the zoo in November 2009.
Greeting cards featuring artwork from Mechi and a few other zoo animal artists are for sale, as are canvasses she’s painted for up to $125.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 5:03pmIt‘s on par with some of the ’human‘ works I’ve seen in metro museums over the years–why not? Hope they are a success.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 4:38amIs this a sign of economic turnaround? Or perhaps……….the Apocalypse! Yikes. I’m going straight to Hobby Lobby and buying a Christmas present for my goats. We’ve just uncovered a new income stream for the farm.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 10:08pmHahahaaha. Now, I can UNDERSTAND the paintings by elephants fetching money. They have large brains, great dexterity, and good eyesight. But Rhinos? Not so much.
