‘For The Past Ten Years Harry Reid’s Been Beating His Wife’: Megyn Kelly Panel Slams Reid for Tax Comments

Harry Reid’s attack on Mitt Romney claiming that “for the past ten years, Romney paid no taxes” has gotten a negative reaction from practically everyone in the media who isn’t already a partisan Democrat. Even liberal comedian Jon Stewart blasted Reid as “really, really terrible” on his show last night, and pretended to invoke the ghost of George Romney to call Reid a “two-bit, trash-talking sonofa–” before cutting himself off.

And now that Reid has repeated the charge from the Senate floor, a panel on Megyn Kelly’s “America Live” has fired back with an even more cutting response. Specifically, former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen described Reid’s attack as a thoroughly disingenuous piece of rhetorical sleight-of-hand and to prove his point, jokingly made a similar charge against Reid:

In response to Reid taking to the Senate floor to declare that “the word is out” that Romney avoided taxation for ten years, Thiessen quipped: “The word is out that for the past ten years Harry Reid has been beating his wife. Do I know that? Do I have any proof? No. But the burden of proof is on him to prove that he hasn’t been beating his wife.”

“That’s essentially what Harry Reid just did to Mitt Romney,” Thiessen said.

“What does ‘the word is out’ mean?” he continued. “He admits he doesn’t have any proof. In fact, this is the quote: he said, ‘Do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain. But I don’t think that the burden of proof should be on me, the burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid taxes.’”

When liberal guest Julie Roginsky tried to defend the charge, claiming that it was fair game, given that Romney hadn’t released his tax returns, Thiessen hit back again, citing Reid’s unreleased tax returns:

“What is in those tax returns? I’d like to know. What the heck, let’s speculate. Is he taking money from corrupt casino moguls? Is he on the take from the Las Vegas mob? The word is out that Harry Reid is corrupt. I have no evidence whatsoever that Harry Reid is corrupt, but I’ve made the accusation. Let him prove that I’m wrong.”

Needless to say, this “guilty until proven innocent” logic came off the worse. Or as Thiessen put it, “I mean, that’s Orwellian.”

      I think the real reason the issue of Romney‘s refusal to release his tax returns won’t go away is because Romney himself has said that he will pay for his proposed massive tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans by eliminating tax loopholes.

      But which loopholes will Romney eliminate? HE REFUSES TO SAY. Which raises the obvious question: will he close the loopholes that HE uses to hide millions in foreign accounts and offshore tax shelters? Or does he only intend to eliminate deductions and credits that OTHER people use., e.g., the ones that middle-class families rely on?

      This is why Romney’s secrecy is so maddening: We have no idea if his tax plan is a shamefully self-serving one that keeps the loopholes used by millionaires like him while cutting the ones used by middle-class families, since he refuses to release his returns (even his 2010 one is incomplete) and since he refuses to say anything SPECIFIC about his tax plan.

      This seems to be his strategy: Just don’t say anything, don’t admit to anything, don’t divulge any specifics about anything–and hope that people just dislike the President enough to vote for anyone else.

      First things is since when does someone have 2 birth certificates in which many people come out to say were forgeries. Also 12 years of tax returns is a bit of a stretch, and both gave very little to charity. Biden giving only 1% to charity which is pathetic. Plus Obama’s tax money he paid is recycled money because he had virtually only held government jobs. He’s taking mot out every year than he is paying in. I love it when public officials complain about income tax when their pay check only hands them the money right back.

      Remember the voting machine was set to default Reid’s name no matter when early voters ( senior citizens who preferred to avoid the crowd by vote early ) touched the other candidate’s name, it would just clock in votes for Reid’s for at least several days before someone detected the fraudulence.       Indeed Nevada is full of idiots who vote for Reid, and we, as a state, are 49th in the nation in school achievment. The center of stupidity is Las Vegas, Reid territory, not northern Nevada. What happened to us is that we were once a state of ranchers, miners and rugged weirdos/individualists, and then California discovered how cheap it is to live here and how beautiful the land is. They moved here and added their particular brand of idiocy to our state. Also half of Mexico moved here to work in the restaurants and hotels. One day we real Nevadans were outnumbered and outvoted.       The legal voters in Nevada didn’t elect Harry Reid. SEIU had a contract to maintain the Sequoia voting machines in Nevada. Harry was having problems getting re-elected against Sharron Angle. A poll showed Angle ahead of Reid 49/45.

      The Sequoia has been proven to be unreliable and easy to tamper with. A hacker loaded PAC-MAN on a voting machine without breaking any tamper resistant seals. The programming can be modified to display the correct vote but it adds the vote to another candidates total. NICE!

      ACORN was deeply involved in registering voters in Nevada. ACORN was fined $5000 by a Nevada judge for making a “mockery” of the national election process. The judge also said, “This isn’t a Banana Republic.”

    Didn’t anybody catch Reid changing his own story. In July he said Romney hadn’t paid taxes for 12 years. In light of the fact that Romney has shown the last two years of his returns, Reid is now saying he didn’t pay any for 10 years.

      First of all, what would YOU know about income taxes ? My guess is that you are part of the 47% that don’t pay any.
      Second, before Mitt Romney releases ANY more tax returns, I want to see the college transcripts of Obambi. He doesn’t even have to release all of them. Harvard will do for starters. Oh……and evidence of how it was paid for. That’s all I want, because I am making the allegation that I think he is lying about everything he has said about his college years.. Now, it is up to him to prove otherwise.

      You are a RAGING IDIOT if you think for one second the IRS would let someone as rich as Romney not file tax returns for 10 years. The reason I say “file” and not “pay” is as an accountant I can guarentee you there is no legal way for someone as rich as Romney to not pay taxes, except if they just didn‘t file and crossed their fingers they didn’t get caught. This is a joke!

      Oh by the way, I got a call from someone at Harvard who said Obama wrote his thesis on overthrowing the US Government from within. Not sure if it’s true, but Obama needs to release his college records to prove that it’s wrong.

    Put it back on Reid, the DNC and the left wing media so they know we are willing to kick them in the gut legally when the abuse the trust of the citizens.

    Create the collective association of citizens that is willing to sue these individuals and entities for deliberate misinformation and defamation of character without evidence – especially for political misconduct . I’ll sign up!! Repeatedly.

    Mark my words on this –

    Obama is going to have Eric Holder (DOJ) bring Mitt up on charges for “Tax Evasion/Tax Fraud.” He does not have to be guilty. They just have to charge him – and they are laying the ground-work for that in the minds of the American public, right now. Once he is brought up on charges and inelligible to run for the presidency, one of two things will happen. One – nothing. The public will do nothing. We’ll shake our heads and say, “Damn, Mitt. Why?” And – Obama’s way will be clear. Two – There will be civil unrest, over the blatant Kenyan Dictator/Chicago-Thug political homicide. Then, he can declare martial law. Either way, that looks to be the way he has setup the chess-board. Congress is absent. The Court is absent. Just my two cents.

      No one is accusing Romney of tax EVASION. No one.
      It’s tax AVOIDANCE – which is perfectly legal with the right loopholes – only available
      to the very rich and their dozens of tax attorneys.
      It just doesn‘t look right for a presidenital candidate and was the reason McCain wouldn’t
      considr Romney for the VP slot.

      So your potential problem with Romney is that he may have followed the LAW and LEGALLY exempted a portion of his income from taxation? Again, you are upset that he MIGHT have followed the LAW?

      Maybe he did……who cares? It is a legal and smart move. Have you ever purposely paid the government more in taxes then you actually owed? Didn’t think so. Any rational and sane person would consider Romney a moron for paying more taxes then he had to. The fact that you are upset that he may have done something legal and smart is rather hilarious. Of course, the rich are the ones that can take different tax breaks than the non rich, they make the kind of money that qualifies them for such breaks. Duh!       I was once engaged to a woman who owned a hair salon, she had a lot of gays working for her over the years. During the 2000 recount fiasco .I flipped on FNC to see what was happening. She had never seen Shep before. It took her about 10 seconds and she said ‘that guy is gay’. I actually argued with her and defended Shep, but she was positive about it. I never gave it much more though until 10 years later when he came out with the ‘wrong sid of history’ comment. I think she was right. Sorry Cindy, wherever you are.

      Is’nt it strange that the IRS would spend several hundred dollars worth of paper work and man hours just to tell me that I owe them a hundred dollars worth of error on my tax return. If Romney haven’t been paying his taxes for the past ten years, you can count on the IRS sending a platoon of IRS agents to his home auditing and checking all his financial records to make him accountable for failing to pay his taxes. Wesley Snipes did‘nt pay almost two million dollars worth of income tax and I think he’s been convicted and may be going to prison for at least two years. Willie Nelson lost his vineyards to the IRS because of his failure to pay taxes. Like I said, the IRS will spend hundreds of dollars in paperwork just to collect twenty five cents worth of tax from anybody.
