Forget Black Panthers – Congresswoman Warns DOJ of Tea Party Voter Intimidation

Armed New Black Panther Party members standing outside of a polling location during the 2008 election might not have raised suspicions of voter intimidation from Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department, but, according to one U.S. Congresswoman, peaceful tea partiers should.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, has asked the DOJ to investigate tea party groups for “intimidating black and Hispanic voters” in her district.  Politico reports:

Jackson Lee has asked Attorney General Eric Holder to send poll monitors to her district on Nov. 2 to make sure the King Street Patriots, a local conservative voter turnout and tea party group, aren’t stopping people from voting.

“Many of these incidents of voter intimidation have been occurring in predominately minority neighborhoods and have been directed at African-Americans and Latinos,” she said in the letter. “It is unconscionable to think that anyone would deliberately employ the use of such forceful and intimidating tactics in 2010 to undermine the fundamental, constitutional right to vote.”

“I urge you to order an immediate investigation into these incidents and call for the Department of Justice to send poll monitors to Harris County immediately to ensure a safe and neutral voting environment during the Nov. 2 election,” Jackson Lee wrote.

In response to Jackson Lee’s accusations, the King Street Patriots and its True the Vote citizen volunteer program also sent a letter to the DOJ to ask for federal election monitors to help watch the polls on election day.

Jackson Lee herself was accused to illegal electioneering at a polling place last week. According to reports, the congresswoman entered the Acres Home Multiservice Community Center, but instead of going to her office on a different floor, Jackson Lee walked in to where voting booths were located and personally greeted voters. At some point, presiding election judge Bernard Gurski reportedly asked Ms. Jackson Lee to leave.  Dr. Melissa Clouthier writes:

[T]he source, a poll watcher, went into the room housing the voting booths and there stood Congresswoman Lee shaking hands with voters and greeting others–clearly electioneering. The poll watcher then went to one of the clerks and asked the presiding judge to take care of it.

While this occurred, the poll watcher heard Lee loudly say to the crowd in the voting area,”I’ve heard a lot of complaints about voter intimidation by poll watchers. I am not going to allow voter intimidation.”

The poll watcher started writing the incident down.

Lee then went to the poll watcher and asked,”What’s your name? Who do you represent?”

A poll watcher is not allowed to speak in the polling area, so directed Congresswoman Lee to the presiding judge. The poll watcher said that Congresswoman Lee indicated that she wanted names to report to the Department of Justice for voter intimidation.

    They are planning ahead. They already know the roll that the black panthers will play in the elections so they are accusing the Tea-Party of exactly what they intend to do themselves. Thats what they do, they falsely accuse us with what they are currently up to to brainwash the americans that listen only to the mainstream media. They try to stay one step ahead of us and accuse us before they act. It makes me so angry. mr obama did just that on the jon stewart show. They are a force to be reckoned with. It is days before the election watch out there is much more to come.

    These a**holes can say what they want about the tea partiers. We just have to stick to what we are doing and we will win. W‘e’re friendly, nonviolent, American citizens, and thats what counts. People will get rid of the far left lies and see it for what it really is. Look how much the tea party has grown over the past year. Think of how big it will be by the 2012 election.

    We’ve had blanket mail-in voting for several years here in WA (however I still see voting booths in several places). I’ve been concerned about voter fraud since King Co WA was allowed to “find” hundreds of ballots 9 different times in 2008. It was proven that hundreds of fellons and deceased people cast ballots and at the same time, hundreds of military votes were NOT counted……..but the results stood. Now, the worry is the counting machines themselves…….and those that install and service them……..SEIU!

    It will help little when situations like SEIU “fixing” voting machines is happening. The left has been doing this for so long it is an art to them. Until we start making people leave a thumb print when voting we will not have fair voting, but by then the Liberal Minority will have taken the country by fraud.

    Are you kidding me? this woman was asked to leave a polling place because of glad-handing, and she’s worried about the tea party? What proof does she have of this supposed voter intimidation going on? I’m getting tired of these folks saying the tea parties are full of violent, aggressive, stupid whatever people without offering a shred of proof. OK, one idiotic Rand Paul supporter, but does that represent everyone? I am amazed more and more everyday that these people are the ones running this country. I cannot believe have vicious they are.

      @snowleopard3200 I think you’re right about Holder going after the Tea Party. Let’s hope the Congress serves as a much-needed check on the executive branch. No problem, re: the Saudi info. I would greet the news with healthy suspicion, even if the guy is outwardly pro-America. I do think he is motivated more by money than by religion, which is probably a good thing in this case.

      To these people, “voter intimidation” amounts to a (white) cop outside a polling place. If a cop is intimidation, what illegal activity are they participating in? If a cop outside a polling place prevents voter fraud, then by all means pay them overtime.

      Now explain this to me? I‘m not sure what’s she is trying to say. Is she saying that calling out voter fraud and not allowing Dems to steal election is voter intimidation? Or perhaps she’s saying that Tea Party members going out into her district to inform her electorate about an alternative to herself and her party is intimidating to her?

      And tell me, when her Big Daddy boss goes on a hispanic radio station and claims that Republicans are their “enemies” and tries to institute fear of Republicans, that isn’t voter intimidation? And when union bosses force their members to go out and campaign for Democrat candidates and issue memos telling them who to vote for with an “or else” attitude, that also isn’t voter intimidation?
