Former ‘60 Minutes’ Commentator Andy Rooney Dead at 92

Former 60 Minutes Commentator Andy Rooney Dead at 92NEW YORK (AP) — CBS says former “60 Minutes” humorist Andy Rooney has died just a month after his final commentary aired.

He was 92. CBS says he died Friday night in New York.

Rooney spent more than 30 years wryly talking about the oddities of life for “60 Minutes.” He would rail about how unpleasant air travel has become, question why banks have important-sounding names or just talk about the old clothes in his closet.

He joined CBS in 1949 and wrote for numerous shows and stars over the years. He teamed up with newsman Harry Reasoner in the 1960s, and they collaborated on several news specials. One was an Emmy-winning report on misrepresentations of blacks in movies and history books.

Rooney and his late wife, Marguerite, had four children.

He finally bored himself to death. Maybe his ear hair will stop growing finally. They will probably put his crusty desk in a National Museum and supply stench sniffers for his following to smell. I will really miss him!

He’s the perfect example of why I never aspired to be a leftist. They’re just miserable people overall. If they happen to become wealthy and gain fame, they become even more miserable and take it out on those that found success and embraced the American way.

Good riddance to an old, crusty leftist athiest.

Can you imagine how suprised he is right now if he’s floundering around in the netherworld trying to make sense of it all.

I wonder if athiests understand that it’s a bigger leap of faith to dismiss spirituality altogether than it is to accept it, because “something” has to be responsible for the awsome orderliness operating at precise mathmatical certainty.

I’m agnostic, but I think it’s the work of fools to dismiss the possibility of a higher power.

He was left-wing during his military service. He hated Patton (who arguably, was probably the best killing general on the Allied side) and talked poorly about him every chance he had.

The only thing I can thank him for was his military service, the rest of it, well, I think extremely poorly for the man and doubt he’s in the higher plane, if you get what I am saying.

@Jmorcan: I am not a agnostic but I think you are wrong. They have yet to have an experience with God and until then why would one just go out and join a religion? God is not a religion or a belief but a person (not a man) whom you get to know personally and then trust. They are at least open to God wooing but an atheists has completely been sealed with the self to the point of deliberate ignorance.

I thought he was funny when I was a kid. Once I grew up, I realized he was a liberal who didn‘t think and couldn’t do math. It was sad from that point forward. He was just a grumpy old rich liberal elite who had a lot of complaints. And now I see from the comments that he was an athiest too. That’s REALLY sad, he died all the way. No Andy Rooney in heaven. He’ll never be enlightened.

Well, he had until the last breath, and last twinkling of consciousness to repent and be saved. We don’t know if he did or not, only God knows that.

But yes, it‘s sad that he didn’t use that great wit for conservatism. Can you imagine how much he could have done?

… I never stayed up late at night contemplating anything Rooney ever said. I guess the only thing I ever liked about the guy was his car. He had a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger that he bought brand new and drove it to work every day until the day he died. He did a story about that car … ever see it? Anybody care?

He had a great carrer during his military days…and he did do a few interesting things, he wrote for: Stars and Stripes, Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts, to name a few before they let him have a spot on the tube.

It’s like movie actors should not make political statements sort of carrer.

I don‘t understand why GB didn’t cover his better years…Bronz star and all of the other recognitions till he got his own spot on the tube. LOL

I‘m not so sure it’s hateful, as much as it is real. Why would any atheist take offense or think it’s hateful if they feel there is no Heaven or God? I would think that they would find it humorous for people of faith to think they were facing a nonexistent God and being thrown into a nonexistent lake of fire after death. I would THINK they would find these comments irrelevant. Then again, if they do find them ‘mean’, it could be that deep down inside they do fear there is truth in what is said.

“Some of the most well-known and widely listened to news commentators and political leaders have advocated the use of RFID chips for societal and government purposes. Andy Rooney, news commentator on CBS’s 60 Minutes, said on February 10, 2002: “Something has to change. They have to find a better way to identify the bad guys or the rest of us are gonna’ stay home and watch the world go by on television…. We need some system for permanently identifying safe people…. I wouldn’t mind having something planted permanently in my arm that would identify me.””

The same thing happened to my grandpa. He was a workaholic; even working on the day of my great-grandma’s funeral. He worked into his 80s… when his kidneys went bad, he had to spend so much time in dialysis that he couldn’t work any more (he owned his own company). Shortly after he stopped working, he went downhill and died.
