Former ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis Leads ‘Church’ in Singing ‘Walmart Sucks’

New York City’s overall unemployment rate is still above 8.5%, with a jobless rate among African-Americans reported to be nearly double that number. The economy is in such awful shape you might you might expect the locals to celebrate the news of Wal-Mart’s plan to open a store in the NYC area, bringing jobs and affordable shopping to the local community. That did not happen.

Instead of supporting a company that wants to invest in NYC and her people, groups like ACORN have organized support to fight Wal-Mart’s plans. This is nothing new as ACORN and its union friends (SEIU and UFCW) have organized protests and picketing at Wal-Mart locations around the country.  In some reported cases, the hired picket line walkers who were supposedly marching in support of a unionized work force and a ‘living wage’ were paid less than Wal-Mart employees just a few feet away.

That kind of hypocrisy seems to fall right in line with the May 1st (May Day) appearance of ACORN‘s former CEO at the weekly performance of ’Reverend Billy‘s Church of the Earthalujah’ show in New York City. (For the non-NYers, Reverend Billy and his church are not real. He is a performance artist/activist, and his ‘church’ is just his latest money-making idea. )

Former ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis Leads Church in Singing Walmart Sucks

Here Ms. Lewis leads what appears to be a NYC church in singing the old gospel standard, ‘Wal Mart Sucks’

(h/t VerumSerum via BreitbartTV)

Reverend Billy‘s organization is also known as the ’Church of Stop Shopping’ although their web site offers many different Reverend Billy products for you to purchase.

The amazing thing is how they sucker these folks by adding God to it. It makes me sad for the ones who would be happy to have work. Reminds me of the old fable “the dog in the manger” Didn‘t want the hay but didn’t want anyone else to have it either. Acorn is a plague on our country-we need to out it at every turn and fight them to the ground.

The “ACORN” people, with access to tax payer dollars through the stimulus Bill and this Administrations’s discretionary use of funds coupled with its network of committed communists, remain very serious threats to the nation. They will continue to pop up all across the nation under various names and slogans but with the same intent, the destruction of capitalism and our “Republic” form of government.

Are many aware that the administration is once again pressuring banks to make more “subprime” loans, the very thing that brought the housing bubble? Where the “corpse” is there the vultures will gather”. We will do well to look for “Bertha” because trouble is not far behind.

Let’s get down to the bottom line. What upsets the left wing about Walmart is that it is not unionized. It doesn’t matter that by a large majority the employees do not want to unionize. Their prices do not matter, their public service does not matter, how it treats it’s employees does not matter. What matters is that they are not unionized. Should they become unionized they could jack up their prices, sell garbage, and they could treat their employees like trash, and the left would have no problem with them. The whole “driving mom and pop stores out of business” argument is a red herring. They could care less about that business and if they have to shut down because the competition, well, as they say, “that’s business”. All I can advise is that the smaller business do something that will still bring in customers. In the small town I live in there is a grocery story and a hardware store. I go to them instead of Walmart when possible because I like the personal service I receive there and the friendly atmosphere. I am willing to pay the somewhat higher prices because of that. I certainly would never advocating shutting down the local Walmart in order to keep these stores open though. Competition.

Slight hypocrisy here! We had our yearly ‘Walk for the Cure’ last weekend in a small town in FL. The employees of Walmart raised the most money $7,000+ ($5,000 donation by Walmart). If that happened in a “small” town in FL, imagine that happening in towns across the US. All of us have been touched by cancer in some way. How much money has SEIU, UFCW or ACORN donated to the cause? Members of unions, do you have any idea what the ‘bosses’ are doing with your hard earned money? If people working for Walmart are unhappy with their pay, there is always someone waiting to take their place, and they can earn unemployment. Bertha, go pound sand and take your theatrics with you.

The Wal-Mart near where I live at donates goods and bakery items to the small food bank where I do volunteer work at; many of us in the area could not survive for long without the lower prices offered at the store. So I get to see the good side they provide in the community; the protesters of ACORN just are upset for the loss of control they would have happen over the store coming into their domain.

Sorry to report that in addition to Wa Mmart’s generosity Wal Mart retailers are serious capitalists, ruthless, and non conforming. They want to put the local 100 year vendor out of business and will do so by a practice called “price dumping”. Wal-Mart can control the price of goods sold by dumping it down while others(small retailers) cannot. Wal-Mart has both the manufacturers and the consumer by the neck.. I know this first hand. I cannot compete with Wal-Mart selling hard goods. Their buying power is too great.

PA Patriot, I also compete with WalMart and really there is no competition at all. I sell a high end product of which they sell multiple cheaper versions, most likely made in China. They can neither service nor warranty their offerings, I can. I can list an infinite number of goods for which this is true, but here are a few examples, furniture (my local super Walmart sells some cheap household furniture but I also have a local dealer that sells quality Amish made furniture, much more expensive but worth every penny and made here.), sporting goods (i.e. golf clubs, bicycles, fishing gear etc.), clothing, and the list goes on. I can however buy basic necessities and trinkets at great prices at Walmart because they are as you say “serious capitalists”. It seems to me this is a much more efficient economic system than having a “mom and pop” operation for every basic product. It allocates both labor and capital to its highest and best uses. If you have evidence that the existence of a Walmart harms any local economy in which it is located I would love to see it.

“If you have evidence that the existence of a Walmart harms any local economy in which it is located I would love to see it.”

There is plenty of evidence. Ask the Independant Grocers Association, Ask the Independant Phamacists that took Wal Mart and super box stores to a Superior Court in Philadelphia …. And WON their case against unfair trade pratices.

Tell me that Wal Mart profits stay on a local level and I will really have a good laugh.

“After careful economic survey of your town’s economic environment one or more Wal Mart stores are built. Wal Mart with economies of scale, a surplus war chest for cut-throat competition and advantages in the import of foreign produced goods, Wal Mart focuses on driving each locally owned or domestically owned competitor out of business. People may not want to shop at Wal Mart but their own budgets and deflation which makes “making ends meet” progressively more difficult forces them to give in sooner or later. Only after the local competition is bankrupt will prices climb to monopoly pricing levels.”

      There is much more http://www.rense.com/general92/stealth.htm

Bottom line is that Wal Mart buys Chinese products and sells them a undercut cost of American products, thus costing America thousands of jobs and billions in lost local revenue.

Take a look at the coal region communities in Central PA. Scranton, Lock Haven, Williamsport,
