LAS VEGAS (AP/TheBlaze) — A former supervisor for the defunct political advocacy group ACORN has agreed to a plea deal in a case alleging that canvassers were illegally paid to register Nevada voters during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Amy Busefink, 28, of Seminole, Fla., pleaded the equivalent of a no-contest in state court to two misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to commit the crime of compensation for registration of voters. Her Alford plea acknowledged the state had evidence for a conviction at trial.
The plea agreement could get Busefink a year of probation, a $1,000 fine and 100 hours of community service.
Her lawyer, Kevin Stolworthy, says Busefink wants to “have some finality” in the case. For the past two years, Busefink has been linked to the embattled ACORN organization as a series of scandals has forced it into a recent bankruptcy.
In 2010, Busefink ran ACORN‘s national voter drive for the group’s Project Vote subsidiary, a group which previously employed President Barack Obama in 1992.
ACORN filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Election Day as it faces mounting debts and a number of other voter fraud cases are still pending.
Writing for the American Spectator, long-time ACORN watchdog Matthew Vadum warns that the group’s bankruptcy claim is merely a “public relations ruse.”
“The group is reorgnizing and will reemerge again soon under a new name, according to ACORN historian and housing activist John Atlas,” Vadum writes.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 3:41pmNevada is home to many an election fraud or at least amazingly unethical electoral behavior.
There’s the group called The Patriot Majority, run by Harry Reid’s former communication director, funded by various labor unions and well-connected Reid supporters, campaigning against Sharron Angle. Of course, this group is completely unconnected with the Reid campaign.

Then there’s the supposed Latino reform group, urging Latinos NOT to vote. This group’s leader is a Republican consultant.

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 8:51amWARNING: Groups like this do not become “defunct.” They change their name, the morph into something different. ACORN IS NOT GONE it is just renamed and shuffled around a bit. Take CLOSE looks at anything with 501c.3 status, especially if it is a community action, political, religious, or charity group. Find out if it is just a front for something else. (Tides Foundation etc etc). This crap has been going on since the early 1930′s at least. Be careful.

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 7:50amHere I served and was wounded not once but twice just to have this kind of BS happen. As far as I’m concerned this is an act of treason. Voting is a sacred right of all Americans. A right that so many have given sooo much for and the state of Florida slaps her on the hand. This REALLY ****** me off!!!!!!!!! Mandatory jail time!

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 8:01amI agree with it should be an act of treason. It should be a minimum of at least 25 years to life or if proven to be wide scale then the punishment should be death.

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 6:34amVoting needs to be viewed as the most sacred thing we have as a republic. Voter fraud should be 10yrs min. Organized fraud should be life without the possibility of parole. Voter fraud is akin to an attempt to take over the government.
That said any organization whos goal is to disrupt commerce, undermine peace, or destabilize the economy should be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 9:12amTreason and sedition charges would be good too. Next up, the right for illegal aliens to vote. Just look at how the courts are weighing in on all these voting challenges. Circumventing laws on the side of “voter intent”. And a person wonders why they have problems getting people to the polls when there always seems to be voter fraud charges flying everywhere and lawyers lining up for both parties to twist the law. Shameful.

Posted on November 11, 2010 at 9:55amAgreed, Watchman. The plea sentence is a complete joke. And I haven’t seen anything about other ACORN employees who had knowledge of the fraud or acted to carry it out. Every one of them should also be charged. The only true deterrent would be significant jail time.
Report Post »Rowgue
Posted on November 11, 2010 at 12:18pmAgreed that penalty is far too lenient for voter fraud. We need to go back to punishing voter fraud as treason, because that’s what it is. It isn’t some innocent misguided mistake. It’s a concious effort to manipulate and defraud the voting system in an attempt to usurp the government against the will of the people.
