The former Alabama Democratic congressman who seconded President Barack Obama’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention in 2008 will make another convention appearance this year — with the Republicans.
Rep. Artur Davis, once described as “Obama from Alabama,” served as a Democrat in the House from 2003 to 2011. He occasionally bucked his party during that time, even voting against Obama’s signature health care overhaul. He made a failed bid for Alabama governor in 2010, then in May said he was becoming a Republican.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Thursday that Davis would be speaking at the GOP convention in Tampa, Fla., along with Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-Va.), Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.), Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.)
“Former Congressman Davis especially will give voice to the frustration and disappointment felt among those who supported President Obama in 2008 and are now hungry for a new direction,” Priebus said in a release.
Davis told the Washington Post on Wednesday before Priebus’ announcement that he planned to speak for those Americans who have found themselves disillusioned with the president after initially supporting his message of hope and change.
“The one thing that I can bring to the table is to be something of a voice for that group of people,” Davis told the Post.

Obama is not good for anyone, especially black people. Look at their plight… Their unemployment rate is sickening… And just to let you know, there are black conservatives out there…
I could go on and on but I gotta go to work!!!

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 5:33pmi apologize ahead of my comment for i truly wish to not offend, but we are in the worst of times and the best of times.
trust but verify.
only last year this man took this step of crossing over. he has made common sense comments here and there and i agree w/his assessments if they come from truth. however, remember the old adage keep your friends close and your enemies closer? we have this man in a bear hug w/bho. my intellect, experience and, yes right along w/my cynicism, informs me.
take a brief walk on the what if: if he’s not true, he will be privy to party secrets.
brief enough?
the conservatives are desperate to have minorities represented and understandably so. but do we want to be so excited that we get rushy and sloppy?
all it takes is one plant.

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 3:24pmFor some reason I don’t trust this guy. I will look at his voting record before and after jumping the aisle to our side. He made a failed bid for Alabama governor in 2010 THEN became a Republican? Once elected, will he become an Independent, swinging votes to the left? I will reserve judgment on this one!

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 5:21pmBingo! We don’t need a mole suddenly espousing conservative principles while his entire career has been demonizing them.
This is obviously the RNC’s attempt to renounce Obamavision with one of his (Obama) own, but I’m not buying it.
Knowing that Alabama is a red state and will likely (after the Obama-Pelosi-Reid debacle) vote Republican down the line on all elections (including governor), he’s (Davis) making his next bid for governor now by “suddenly seeing the light” and appearing on the national stage for the Republican party. Or maybe he has his eye on Capitol Hill. Nonetheless, he cannot and should not be trusted. He’ll have to earn it in a big way. And speeches aren’t gonna cut it. Proposed bills and voting records speak volumes.
Now, most of the country probably deducts a hundred IQ points when they here someone from Alabama talk (or anyone from the south)… But, just because folks from Bama aren’t all Cambridge educated,…doesn‘t mean they aren’t politically savvy. I mean, it is a red state. There’s a large black population in Bama (which overwhelmingly vote Democratic) yet, the state remains red. I’d say those folks are a bit smarter than we probably give them credit. Therefore, I don‘t imagine they’ll be falling for this blatant attempt at placating Bama Republicans for their votes in future elections.

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 2:27pmConsidering that the two establishment parties are essentially the same, why would this be a surprise? Elect Obama/Biden in November and we’re skewed. Elect Romney/Ryan in November and we’re skewed. Either way we’re skewed.
Skewed meaning tilted. That is to say we are still moving away from our Constitution and our founding principles. Literally, if you are thinking about voting R or D you may as well flip a coin just prior to casting your vote. With either party we end up in a dark, and stinky place.
Stand strong! Anyone but Obama or Romney. That’s the ticket. Peace.

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 12:10pmEveryone deserves a chance to prove they have “learned their lesson” and become a conservative…
I am proud he has the guts to do this publicly… I know the “black community” looks down heavily on people that “betray” the liberals and the left…. My student that I refer to from time to time, is now being shunned by his neighborhood because he has woken up and seen the light… He used to be on welfare and food assistance, until I chewed him out and shook him awake… and now he thanks me ALL the time for it… He told me just last week, that recently he has become proud of himself (for the first time) because he is now completely earning his way on his own.. with no assistance from anyone….
I couldn’t be more proud of him…. As a young 22 year-old black kid from the “hood” in the last few years of our friendship, he has really turned himself around… He told me that it was all thanks to me, and my training… But I told him, “No… You only have yourself to thank… YOU put in all the effort… I just showed you the path… YOU chose to walk it…”
One small success at a time…. Just like Mr. Davis…

Just a rhetorical question. No harm no foul. I’m glad he saw the light, too. Just saying we need to watch how he votes, considering both Scott Brown and the fact this gentleman is given a voice.
ONI – great story!! Kudos!! Need more like you – I taught in the Community College system while I had my business (I called it my “Inspiration in lieu of perspiration” commitment) off and on my whole life as an adjunct and I saw 1st hand the indoctronation and the villification I received blunting the liberal dogma the kids were subjected to.

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 3:34pmI was watching some history on TV the other night, I don‘t look at regular TV and it was brought up that right before the Revolutionary War 700 New Yorker’s signed the “Declaration of Dependence” to England. I also like when Nicolas Cage says in National Treasure that if we had lost the Revolutionary War all the signers, Jefferson, Franklin, etc., would have been “drawn, quartered, hung and had their entrails removed while alive.” He said, that’s my personal favorite, having my entrails removed while alive. This country exists through the Will of God and anyone who knows and understands any American history would have no doubt. Once we bring God back into the picture the country will again become strong. I haven’t been to church twice in 10 years but I am going to start going back. The past 2 years have convinced me of the existence of a Supreme being, God, someone of which plays a part in our lives and existence but of which we could not ever understand until we die and hope to go to heaven.
