Former DNC Chair: Wait, Why Are we Attacking Romney for Being Wealthy?

During a discussion on the president’s proposed extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for people earning less than $250,000 a year, former Democratic National Committee chair Ed Rendell characterized Team Obama’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s wealth as misguided.
“This campaign, coming out of Chicago for the President has emphasized Romney’s wealth and talked about vacationing and how many houses and Swiss bank accounts,” Charlie Rose said on “CBS This Morning.”
“There are some who say that it looks like an attack on the wealthy and that’s not good politics,” he added.
“I think people will remember that FDR and JFK, they were very wealthy people who did a lot to help working people,” Rendell responded. “I think that more importantly is to attack what Mitt Romney has done in his career, the things he did at Bain.”
“The fact that he has money in Swiss bank accounts, that’s more pertinent than it is to just to say that he is wealthy. Big deal that he jetskis or whatever it was he was doing, big deal! People understand that it is a vacation.”
“But I think to draw the contrast of outsourcing and things like that, that’s obviously working,” he added.
Simply put, Rendell believes that, if anything, Team Obama should hit Romney over things he has actually done rather than demonize him for being well-off.

It is within every persons legal right to avoid paying the most taxes they possibly can. As long as they do not break tax law in doing so. Once you cross they line of knowingly breaking the law you are criminal and should be treated as such. (If unknowingly breaking the law does not negate penalties from breaking the law regardless.) If you make tons of money or very little and you legally pay no taxes then it is not a crime. If we as an American people feel that he is unethical for doing so and enough people agree then they will close the loophole. Until then it is not against the law to be both wealthy and not paying taxes.If you want to pay more in taxes that is your choice to do so. My opinion is that would be money better spent in investing and growing the economy at this point.

As a side note, I’m not a Republican. I’m from the South and always considered myself a Conservative Democrat, but Jimmy Carter proved to me that there was no such thing anymore. Last Democrat I voted for was Richard Shelby and guess what party he’s in now. There are only levels of left wing idiologues in the Democrat Party now. Right now, I’m just a Independent Conservative. Voted Ross Perot and Michael Peroutka in past elections, but this election, I’ll be pinching hard once again (did so for McCain too) since I knew then and many more knows now that BO don’t know and gotta go (Auburn guys will appreciate what I just typed. lol). :)

I resent the fact that they are trying to somehow imply that Romeny has money due to some nefarious method rather than real earnings. If I had bunches of money, I would be finding ways to shelter it from the government too.
Or maybe I should just do what 47% of the population does to “shelter” their income – they don’t work and just take part of my incomee. (retirees on SS – don’t mean to throw you in that pool as freeloaders)
I have more sympathy for Romney’s so called “shelters” he at least paid taxes (and quite a lot of taxes) which is more than I can say for the 47% who are free-loading takers.

Newt had too much baggage & Santorum was no fiscal conservative & was so far right on social issues that independents would never vote for him. Romney was doing well & is still doing ok. He is taking a hit from all Obama’s lies & Romney hasn’t responded. Their strategy seems to let Obama spend his money now & he will attack him later when more people are paying attention. I hope it works but I don’t know. I read he feels that is what he did wrong in 08, spent too much of his money too soon.

You know wealth DISTRIBUTION (theft) through the Federal Reserve, a total disregard for our tradition of liberty, the Consitution and our sovereignty (Bilderberg…) The federal government’s role in bailouts, gun control… on and on. One legit argument the left will use, and they’ve already started, is Romney’s tough guy stance, though he cowered in gay Paris while real men were killing an dying. I posted several times, that Romney has surrouned himself with the monsters that got us into Iraq based on lies. I mean good luck with that. If you don‘t recall part of the reason so many independents flocked to Obama in 08 was because of Bush’s warmongering.

Ways that the today’s Demoncrats would abhor. One of the ways that FDR’s family made their bucks was to buy up land (Manhattan being one area) during the depression of 1837. Imagine a Republican doing that today? They’d be roasted as “stealing from the little guy!”
JFK’s old man made their money through insider trading and manipulation of the stock market pre-1929. Some of his tricks and trades contributed to the 1929 crash as he manipulated stocks to take big profits. He later “joined” the govt in helping close down all those loopholes. What he really did was to close the door AFTER he’d raked of his millions.
Never mind Kerry that simply married his money…
So, Romney actually EARNED his wealth, and I can respect that.
