Former Egyptian MP Has Screaming Breakdown on TV Over Soccer Deaths

Yesterday, over 70 Egyptians died Egypts Ahmed Shobair Breaks Down on Live TV Over Soccer Deathsfrom the pandemonium that resulted after fans stormed the field at the end of a soccer match. Some may have reacted in anger, others in disgust. Former Egyptian National Soccer Team goalkeeper, also a former MP, Ahmed Shobair displayed those emotions and more in a screeching, emotional speech on Egyptian TV.

The Middle East translation site MEMRI captured the breakdown and provides a transcript:

Dear viewers, there are 13 dead in Port Said hospital, 11 dead in Ismailiya hospital, and 11 dead in another hospital… All this in a soccer match. There are three lying dead in the stadium. This happened in a soccer match between Egyptians and Egyptians – [the casualties are] among the supporters of Al-Ahly and of Al-Masry, as well as among the security personnel in the stadium.

People died over a soccer match. Is this the outcome we hoped for?! Is this what we wanted?! People dying in a soccer match?! In the heart of Egyptian soccer?!

Unintelligible

Why? Whether Al-Ahly wins or Al-Masry wins – why should there be any dead?! Why are people dying in Egypt? Because of a soccer match?! Because of crazy people?! Why?!

I really don‘t get how some people think it’s so funny to crack jokes and make insults when people die. (SMH) It’s really not funny. If you have ever been to Egypt, you will know why this is a disgrace. I agree that Mubarek had to go, but while he was in power, this kind of thing did not happen. Maybe it’s just growing pains, but it pains me to see it. Such a pity.

Western civilization began with Christianity. Women were free and equal from writings of Paul the Apostle. Jesus sets people free! Free from bondage to sin. We are given to be free moral agents. We can choose to accept this good news or develop a system with say 2000 years of success in changing lives. Say something other than information of human relationships that describe “man’s condition” not included in the Bible. Prove the success of that system of belief to set people free. Normally it requires threats of violence and demands of money or else, for psuedo peace. NO FREE THOUGHT. Just strict enforcement of social demands. The whole world enjoys what Christianity has provided through believers in Christ who established this country. Check out the Gospel. It’s good news.

Wrong! Western Civilization began WAY before the birth and ministry of Christ. In fact, Christianity didn’t become a world-wide, accepted religion until the counsel of Nicea in 325AD. Up until then it was merely considered a “cult” that was dealt with harshly. Technically, Western Civilization began in classical greece and with the old roman republic, which is actually the framework used to create our own republic. The roman constitution, their three branches of government, etc… all are the foundation of our own government. So to say that “western civilization began” with Christianity, which did not solidify it’s own doctrine until 325 is a blatant ignorance of world history. This is not to say anything bad about Christ and Christianity as a religion; just to state the facts that Western Civ existed at least 500 years before that, and that our entire government is based on the Roman republic and the Greeks. This is also not to say the significance of the 10 commandments and the beatitudes in the formation of the ethics of our society in the late 18th century. The bible as well as ancient governments played a large role in the founding of our nation. The founding fathers were a kind of genius that we will never see again. This is why we need to listen to them and stop this big government BS. That’s what destroyed the roman republic and lead to the formation of “The Empire”…

@THESOUNDOF TRUTH I think you have no real idea what your talking about. Christianity had spread all over the Rome and all over the known world far before 325 AD. Constantine legalized Christianity in 313 AD, 12 yeas before the Counsel of Nicea. The main purpose of the Counsel of Nicea was the Divinity of Christ. Everything else was secondary. You could say perhaps 325 was the first systemized Church doctrine. Peter, Paul, John and Mark layed out the Church doctrine between 50-90 ish. Clement, Ignatius and Polycarp (Church fathers) were preaching the doctrines laid out by the apostles in full over 200 yeas before the Counsel of Niciea. Christ and the Apostles gave us our doctrine not the Counsel of Niciea.

Why would it be surprising to anyone that violence erupts at any function in a country which is composed mostly of Muslims? The religion mandates violence and oppression. And he’s surprised? Has he read much history? Was he paying attention during the “Arab Spring”?

You know, the guy is upset for the right reasons and I do empathize with him, but what can you tell him if he’s blind to the reason why things like that happen in his country?

There are so many dead because Islam breeds hatred: hatred for jews and non-muslims; hatred between Shiite and Sunni.
Christianity: Love the Sinner, hate the sin.
    Islam: Join us or die.

Hey, When in doubt, scream & shout. Isn’t this how the whole riot thing started anyway? We have Native American tribes that throw bottles of booze at basketball referees when they make an unpopular call & that is why there is now cyclone fencing between the bleachers & the courts. Go figure…

At least he has the courage to say something about idiotic killings. Many would just try to ignore what happened and sweep it under the rug. The same mindset comes to confronting the extremists, those Muslims who want to advance out of the dark ages need to say something and not pretend that their society is perfect.

After a terrorist organization with links to the Muslim Brotherhood assassinated Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in October 1981, a startled world watched with wonder. How will this sudden, unexpected jolt impact world events? Will Sadat’s relatively unknown successor continue the pursuit of peace in the Middle East?

What few people realized at the time was that Hosni Mubarak had been carefully groomed to follow in the steps of his predecessor.

Anwar Sadat recruited Mubarak to be his vice president in April 1975, two years after the general had won praise for drawing up a successful air campaign that was used against Israel during the Yom Kippur War.

At Sadat’s funeral, Mubarak boldly stated, “I declare that we will honor all international charters, treaties and commitments which Egypt has concluded. Our hands will not cease to push the wheel of peace in pursuance of the mission of a departed leader.”

Two years earlier, Anwar Sadat became the first Arab leader to officially recognize the State of Israel. It was Sadat who made the historic peace pact with Israel. But it was Mubarak who honored that agreement and maintained the peace for three decades.

Is it any wonder why so many Israelis hold Hosni Mubarak in such high regard? Mubarak is the primary reason Israel has cut military spending and reduced its troop presence along the Egyptian border—even as Egypt’s militarily establishment has grown to be one of the strongest in the Arab world.

It’s because they have yet to win a single battle against any non-Muslim force since the siege of Vienna in the 15 hundreds… A lot of frustration can build up over five centuries, especially since their religion promises them a win every time. So they take it out on us and each other in equal measure.

Well if you allowed people an outlet for their passions, ie: dating, rock & roll, chances for young men and women to socialize, etc, etc, instead of that damned hard line religious cult where EVERYTHING is forbidden if it does not include killing Jews, then maybe your young men wouldn’t get so freaked out so easily.
