Former Marine Saves Woman from Rape in Queens

These colors don’t run.
Brian Teichman served as a Marine for five years in Iraq and Afghanistan where he learned many effective skills to save himself and others in the face of danger. Teichman likely never thought he would need to use these skills while dropping off his two-year-old daughter at a babysitter’s house in Queens, New York Wednesday. At 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Teichman spotted a man forcing woman over a guardrail across the street and into a deserted, wooded area. The former marine jumped to action.
“I am an ex-Marine, so I’m not scared of conflict. I looked down and I saw him straddling her and he had his hand over her mouth and he was trying to rip her shirt off,” he recalled of the incident to the New York Post.
“My thought was ‘scream first, if he runs you don’t need to worry if he has a gun or a knife. In the deepest scream I could, I said, ‘Hey get the f—k off of her !’ He looked up at me and then ran down the hill, toward the west bound shoulder of the Parkway.”
Within minutes police arrived at the scene following a call from the nearby babysitter, but the attacker was already gone. Teichman told the New York Daily News that following the attack he tried to comfort the weeping woman who spoke very little English.
“God bless him,” said Lisa Chianese, a witness to the event who told the New York Daily News that the woman had been waiting for carpool into the city. “He saved her.”
The stoic Teichman painted himself as no hero, only saying to the Daily News “It blows my mind that someone has the audacity to do that at 9 o’clock in the morning.”
“In hindsight I feel like I didn’t do my job until they catch him,” Teichman told the Post.
The suspect, who appeared to be in his 50’s, clean cut, 5’11″ and 200 pounds wearing a tan baseball cap was being sought by police. At the time of the attack the vet was on his way to take a physics exam at Nassau Community College.

They included a description obviously so they would get tips about the perps identity. Are they so ignorant they don’t know that giving the race of the perpetrator would narrow things down enormously for possible witness tips as to who this this guy is?
Usually, the only time the press doesn‘t give the race of the perp is when he’s black, so I guess we can assume he’s black.

Seriously, though, the article never mentions the rapist’s race – not even in his description; he’d be easier to find if they had that information. (Don’t give me that “profiling” crap – he’s the same color even when seen from the front. JKBNR)

Posted on September 29, 2011 at 7:39amAnd if you do not have a gun, fight back in every possible way.
As a young girl I was advised by my mother, should I find myself in that position (pardon the pun), to give in lest he hurt or kill me. WRONG!
The first time it was much like the woman in this report. He was straddling me, pinning my arms to the ground with his knees, and ripping off my clothes. However, my screams only attracted a crowd of watchers who did not intervene. My continued struggling kneed him in the crotch (he was straddled over me), afterwhich he rolled off of me holding his crotch and groaning. I lept up and RAN passed the watchers (who were all gutless males, by the way). I never told my mother about this. She would have put the blame on me as would most of society, at that time.
God Bless the MARINES! I’m glad he was there for her.

I just hope the gun grabbers dont’ offer this a proof that you only need a scream for self defence! they may decide that a recorded scream would be as effective as a gun and issue everyone a phone app for that! phoneappdefence.com :) rember when seconds count the police are only minuites away!

Posted on September 29, 2011 at 12:20pm@BOWHUNTINGTEXAS: New York City with NO conceal – carry for the good guys. The Marine and the woman are fortunate the would be rapist did not pull an illegal hand gun on them. Had our hero had a gun, he could have possibly held the suspect at gun point for the police. At press time, the suspect is still out there and a threat. If – If – If. Our Marine did a great job with what he had to work with. Thank You. @ADNIL: Sorry no one came to your defense. Gutless / GUNless wonders indeed.

Actually all the services deserve respect. Including the Air Farce and the kids on the boats with the cute little white hats.
Report Post »TunaBlue
Posted on September 28, 2011 at 11:18pmThey “deserve respect.” Is that true? Why does someone deserve respect by default because they choose to join the military? I’m sick of this idea that firefighters, police, teachers, and other public servants should get our respect because of their choice to become public servants. Most choose these careers because of the awesome benefits and retirement packages. I know, I was one of them!
Let’s respect people who earn it, but only if you want to give them respect. Let’s stop thinking that we MUST give them respect mechanically.
While I’m at it, let’s do away with calling public servants and military personnel “hero’s,” too. Let’s wait until someone actually does something heroic. And there are people, like this guy in the story, who do heroic things everyday.

Posted on September 28, 2011 at 11:46pmI was one of those “kids on the boats with the cute little white hats” who served 11 years. But most of those boats are SHIPS. Once, I was in the right place to take my saddle rifle and help stop a bank robbery. About six months later, coming back in the Civil Air Patrol L-16, I saw the two sheriff cars leaving town, with lights, and called dispatch (we had a radio for SAR purposes). Found out another bank robbery and got the getaway car’s specs. From 1,500 feet, located the vehicle and through dispatch directed the two sheriff’s cars before continuing on to the airport. On two SARs, found two lost individuals. Disarmed an idiot with a knife who wanted to rob the store where I worked. Saw a guy hide when a patrol car was moving slowly through the parking lot, called in the guy’s location and pointed him out to the police.
What I am saying is, if you need someone who has the knowledge, experience and not be afraid to use them, get a former serviceman who VOLUNTEERED to service his country, not just sign up for a job with good benefits. BTW: I was “RIFed” after Vietnam and get no benefits other than an additional 10% on my social security retirement.

Simply because you were a pubic service employee for the bennies, doesnt mean that ALL public employees are. Please dont try to belittle the ammount of selflessness displayed by those whose motivations you cant possibly speak for.
