Former Presidential Candidate Thad McCotter Ends Write-In Campaign for Congressional Seat

Former Republican presidential candidate Rep. Thad McCotter is ending his write-in bid to regain his own congressional seat in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District after failing to acquire enough signatures to appear on his district’s primary ballot.
“To those who [are] unhappy at this news, I’m sorry; to those happy at this news, you’re welcome,” the five-term Michigan Republican said humorously in a statement Saturday.
Politico continues:
McCotter failed to get on the ballot after it was revealed that his campaign did not turn in the necessary 1,000 signatures.
McCotter requested an investigation after the Michigan secretary of state’s office revealed that although 2,000 signatures were turned in, there were not 1,000 valid signatures included. Many appeared to be copies.
The one-time GOP policy chair had earlier promised to run for reelection with a write-in campaign. But he was considered to be an outside contender when, before the controversy, he would have been a certainty to regain his seat.
The congressman was subject to widespread sniping about how he failed to gather the signatures.
“One can’t clean up a mess multitasking. Honoring my promise to the sovereign people of our community only allows me to finish the official duties of my present Congressional term; and aid the State Attorney General criminal investigation that I requested into identifying the person or persons who concocted the fraudulent petitions that have cost me so dearly…”
“Honoring this promise does not allow me to continue a political write-in campaign. This decision is final, regardless of how swiftly the investigation is concluded.”

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 9:10amThad McCotters 11th district has only set 3 dems to Washington ever. boy that must hurt. Out of 662,563 people in the 12th district he couldnt muster up 1000 signatures? This guy is a lawyer too. Maybe if he would of spent more time representing the people of michigan and less time on Red Eye he could of…….Naaah he was too busy screwing over the american people. Lets all give this great congressmen a BIG GOOD BYE!!!!

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 10:11amI love Red Eye.
Congressmen go on TV to get name recognition. It is something they have to do. That he could only regularly on one program is bad. It is like an actor being type cast. If not working harder, he should have worked smarter. You gotta go on more than just Red Eye.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 6:59amYou obviously do not live in McCotter’s district – I do and I can tell you he is a very effective and appreciated leader. I suspect he is being robbed of his seat in the very way Obama cheated his way into local politics; Obama had one opponent after another struck from the ballot by contesting invalid signatures (after ACORN members had done all the signing); just ask Illinois state senator Alice Palmer. Looks like Chicago thuggery politics has invaded our 11th district.

McCotter is a very effective and appreciated leader? But with all his leadership qualities and all the people who appreciate him could not come up with 1000 sigs? Out of a population of over 660,000 ? Oh but it was ACORN. ACORN on a foggy night came to the McCotter campaign and said….”Forget all of your appreciative supporters let us collect the 1000 sigs for you and McCotter said, “ well golly that’s mighty nice of you folks, thanks so much”
You obviously did not appreciate McCotter enough to collect the 1000 sigs and you obviously do not have a clue how a campaign is ran.

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 8:55amThad McCotter had done some great things. He has also has done some boneheaded things
He supported the Democrat bill to end energy price gouging. I could overlook this
He supported card check. I could overlook that given his district.
He supported the Wars in Afghanistan & Iraq. He is spot on. After rereading about the Uzbeki (IMU) guerilla groups & their partnering with Al Qaeda & the Taliban, we had every right to invade. There is not one troll that could say otherwise. They kidnapped American mountaineers in Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan in 2000 because they could among other reasons. Usama also gave them 20 Billion dollars for their revolution. Part of the deal was they were suppose to smuggle a nuke out of the former USSR for his use. Questions?
He opposed the Paulson bailout plan. That is huge. His opposition for this is why we know him. But when he introduced the HAPPY bill, it tells me that he just doesn’t get it. A $3,500 tax deduction for owning a pet? That is CRA P (We need a flat tax of 10% to 20% with no deductions)!

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 12:42amWhen I read about McCotter, I really liked him. Then I heard him speak about the Tea Party, and he said we didn’t “get it”. He thought we were attempting to be “too ideologically pure”. That‘s when I knew he wouldn’t be advancing in politics.

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 9:01amNational Defense Authorization Act is where they vote for money for the army, navy, marines & air force.
There is nothing wrong with that.
There may be problems with individual PROVISIONS in the act, but not with the concept for funding the army, navy, marines & air force.
So which provisions are a problem? That soldiers get a paycheck. That they expend money training? That they get new equipment?

I have no words for you. I hope your kidding.
For all the others here
NDAA allows the Armed Forces to engage in civilian law enforcement and to selectively suspend due process and habeas corpus, as well as other rights guaranteed by the 5th and 6th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Under Section 1021 people who are alleged to have committed or merely “suspected” of sympathizing with or providing any level of support to groups the U.S. designates as terrorist organization or an affiliate or associated force may be imprisoned without charge or trial. It also affirms the executive branch’s authority granted under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) and broadens the definition and scope of “covered persons.” But because the “war on terror” is a war on a tactic, not on a state, it has no parameters or timetable. Consequently, this law can be used by authorities to detain (forever) anyone the government considers a threat to national security and stability potentially even demonstrators and protesters exercising their First Amendment rights.
If this doesnt bother you we are all doomed
