Former Tea Party Spokesman Arrested on Kidnapping, Rape Charges

Police in California arrested a former spokesman for the San Diego Tea Party on suspicion of kidnapping and raping a 56-year-old woman.

Michael Kobulnicky, 50, was arrested near his home Thursday afternoon, San Diego police told local NBC affiliate KNSD-TV, and was booked on felony charges including kidnapping, sexual assault and sex with a foreign object.

He remains in jail and will appear in court this week, the Los Angeles Times reported.

According to San Diego Fox affiliate KSWB-TV, Kobulnicky allegedly spotted the woman while he was driving and pulled over and asked if she wanted a ride home. She accepted the offer, but once they reached her home he allegedly kept going and drove to a nearby recreational area known as Fiesta Island. He then allegedly pulled her out of the vehicle and sexually assaulted her before driving off and leaving her behind.

The woman reported the alleged assault to the police, who released surveillance video to local news outlets. Using tips from the public, detectives identified Kobulnicky as the alleged assailant, San Diego Police Lt. Anastasia Smith told the station.

A statement from the San Diego Tea Party to KNSD said Kobulnicky has been on hiatus from the organization since January for personal reasons. He has been relieved from his duties for the duration of the legal proceedings.

“Our hearts and our thoughts go out to the victim,” the statement said.

    Could this possibly be a setup? The info in the article was sketchy at best. What time of night was it? What sane woman would accept a ride from a total stranger in this day and age? Need more info and background on the vic to be sure. Does the vic have a criminal record? Not blaming the vic here, just want to know the answers to these questions.

    Well this only proves that sexual deviants can infect any group. This is one out of how Tea Party members, where OWS had how many in a group of 100. If I were the Tea Party in San Diego, I would cancel his membership period. If he is found innocent, then let him reapply.

    What purpose would this woman lie? He picked her up, gave her a ride. He knows where she lives and if released could return. I think it is time for a thorough background check on any spokes person for the Tea Party. You don’t have to conduct for everyone, just officers and spokes person.

      Welcome to the Facist American Nation not communist.
      Many sources fail in their definitions of national government so I will give you my take.
      Communism: The state owns and controls all.
      Socialism: The state owns and controls major social conglomerates (business, military & political)
      Facism: The state owns & controls military and political entities. It also controls all businesses it deems esential to its purposes but leave the nominal ownership in private hands.
      Anarchy: No government whatsoever, mob rule.
      Facism seems to best describe the purpose of the above executive order.

      Now the national defense is a Constitutionaly mandated function of our Government. This does not give the government an open door to trample on other rights listed in the constitution. Although the last has happened before in our history i.e. the draft. The Interstate Highway system was justified for military purposes, but has long ago exceeded that mandate.

      This is an election issue, but only regarding O‘bama’s continuing collectivist agenda. Most of the electorate will be concerned with jobs, gas prices and such, much as they were in Hitlers rise to power. Philosophical issues, unfortunately, don’t concern most voters.

      The label we put on a person i.e. Christian, Tea Party supporter, Atheist, Democrat, Republican tells us little about them. If each person is viewed as a tree, judge the tree by its fruit. S.E. Cupp is an atheist, but she is certainly a very moral person. Glen is a Christian and is also a very moral person. O’bama is a Christian, need I say more.

      Fascism, like all other forms of socialism, requires governmental force to implement (read dictate).

      This is not preparedness; it is anti-freedom.

      That’s just a minor revision of the executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by President Clinton, which was just a minor revision of the executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by President Reagan, and so on back to the first executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by FDR in 1939. If you don’t believe me, just look up the Clinton and Reagan executive orders which are revoked in section 803. In other words, this is a normal part of every President’s job that just seems sinister to paranoids who see everything that President Obama does part of some vast and overarching evil conspiracy.

      A lot of this is common sense, but the most troubling for me is this part: Where the government and put government equipment in privately owned businesses. it also allows all his agencies to contract for loans with private institutions? Doesn’t this bypass Congress? Surely, we can strike down an executive order right?

      (b) provide for the modification or expansion of privately owned facilities, including the modification or improvement of production processes, when taking actions under sections 301, 302, or 303 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2091, 2092, 2093; and

      (c) sell or otherwise transfer equipment owned by the Federal Government and installed under section 303(e) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2093(e), to the owners of such plants, factories, or other industrial facilities.
