SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts officials say four people are dead after at least two tornadoes swept through western and central parts of the state.
Scott MacLeod, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the deaths Wednesday night but said there were no details about the circumstances.
He said two people died in Westfield, one in West Springfield and one in the town of Brimfield.
The storms have also caused an unknown number of injuries and extensive damage.
Gov. Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency and called up 1,000 National Guard troops.
One of the tornadoes struck in Springfield, the state’s third largest city.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 12:24pmI’m in Massachusetts, and although none of those twisters came that close to my town, because of the violent thunderstorms and tornado warnings, I spent several hours in my basement–alone with my cats. It was a very scary time–we are more used to hurricanes than tornadoes. I understand that FEMA has arrived in state, but the National Guard was called out by the GOVERNOR, not the Federal Government. Being predominantly a Democratic state, although we have a lot more Conservatives than we used to, I’ve no doubt that we will probably receive more federal aid than Texas did, but that will be due to Patrick’s close alliance with Obummer. Many, many of us here in Mass. are absolutely furious at the Boy King’s treatment of Texas, and the other states devastated by these terrible events.

Report Post »I live in Massachusetts and I agree with your statement. There are a lot of hard working people who live in this state. I am a conservative and I do not agree with a lot that goes on in this state. I don’t live in or near the affected area, but my company has two offices out there in East Longmeadow and Wilbraham. Though I have never met them in person, I talk to them all of the time. We are currently setting up a fund to help people in that part of the state. The people are very brave and they are doing everything they can to help one another. God bless them all!

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 7:29amSometimes you cannot tell your blessings from your curses, but when the long arm of the federal goverment reaches in with aid of any kind it pulls back far more than has been given. When it has US Treasury written on it, it is a bill NOT a gift. Mass. is willing to sell their soul, MO, MS, Al, AZ still have theirs. Take back America by refusing the giving hand.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 9:19amBeing someone no less than ten minutes from one of the areas devastated by this disaster, i find your statement incredibly offensive and it really goes to show the merit of some in this country. Despite massachusetts being portrayed as the ultimate blue state, we are surprisingly conservative as well, not that political orientation should matter at a time like this. Many of the towns devastated yesterday were small hill towns tucked away in the woods with an honest hard working population. I challenge you to come here and say something equally as ignorant in my vicinity and see what happens.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 7:23amMassachusetts is a nanny state with an entitlement mentality that won’t let this disaster go to waste. Missouri is in the midwest where people take care of their own. That‘s both why Missouri didn’t ask for help and why they won’t get any if they do. Obama can’t stand a self sufficient people.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 6:08pmThe National Guard is a STATE organization. The governor is the one that called them out. The Feds can call on the states to activate the guard, but ultimately it’s the state than does the calling up. It’s the Massachusetts National Guard, not the Federal reserves that were called out.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 11:32amYes, America is likely the only country in the world that uses HAARP to kill its own people so Barack and his buddies can have the Chicago Carbon Exchange.
Funny thing happening though, people are saying this is God’s Wrath. So it may just backfire and get people to turn to God…you know the real one…not Lucifer or not Amen Ra or not any of those worshipped by the world elite.
Illumination is a wonderful thing!

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 4:31amI live in Connecticut, and we aren’t accustomed to weather like this in this region. While tornadoes have formed with bad thunderstorms, they have historically been small, and caused very little damage with the exception of one that went through the Windsor Locks area about 30 years ago. I don’t think anyone died in that one. Over 500 people have lost their lives to monster tornadoes across the Midwest and the south so far this year and many more have been injured, many displaced, have no home to go back to. The president says the government will help rebuild but FEMA says they are just about out of money and we haven’t even started the hurricane season yet. In addition, the Mississippi and the Missouri River are still flooding and lots of farm land is under water. It’s going to take other Americans to help each other out. Some of us can go help charities already in place, others will have to seek out reputable disaster relief agencies to donate to. But all of us can pray for everyone affected by the forces of nature …
