FOX Anchor Confronts GOP Sen. on His $16 Million in Earmarks

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) may have vowed to vote down the latest spending bill, but not before Fox’s Bill Hemmer uncovered a stubborn little fact: Cornyn has stuffed $16 million worth of earmarks into the bill.
Hemmer invited Cornyn on his show to talk about the new massive spending bill. Cornyn dutifully railed against it. But when Hemmer confronted Cornyn on his own $16 million worth of earmarks, the Senator tried to squirm his way out of it. To be fair, he did (just barely) by vowing to vote against it. But listen to the logic he used to defend his earmarks:
Cornyn’s “defense” is exactly why earmarks are so prevalent: they are all “defensible” and “good” for your constituents. He even tries to invoke the sacred cow of our “men and women in uniform” — that seems to me a cowardly debate killer.
How can Republicans rail against Democratic earmarks and then defend their own? As Ghandi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Posted on December 15, 2010 at 11:11amWhy can‘t a bill stand on it’s own? Why the hell do these politicians, Rep. & Dems, continue to stuff these bills with pork? We hear about a moritorium on earmarks….but then it always gets voted down. What a crock! Politicians grandstand saying they are against earmarks and then somehow the spending continues! Call your Senators and Representatives everyone. Tell them to stop the spending!

These representatives are addicts they are addicted to spending, much like a compulsive shopper. so cut the money off and cut the credit cards up, because they are about to go cold turkey. I will lead the movement to remove them from office. no violence just about 10 million of us marching to the drum beat of removal. Posted on December 15, 2010 at 11:07amAh, the infamous RINO – a dying breed.
How did we put these types of people into office in the first place? If these are the types of people Karl Rove fancies, then Karl Rove needs to check himself. I admire Rove, but am beginning to think he’s a bit out of touch and needs to realign himself, or leave.
Report Post »Rowgue
Posted on December 15, 2010 at 11:36amKarl Rove is a hack. He’s as much a conservative as Joe Scarborough. He cares about the republican party and winning elections for the party, he doesn’t give a rats *** about conservative values.
His problem is that he is also still looking at the political landscape as if the majority of the general public are still under the impression that republican = conservative. He predicted that every one of the tea party candidates would lose in the last election. The only tea party candidates that lost were the ones he spent every second of air time he was given slandering. If not for Karl Rove several more real conservatives would be on their way to washington in January. But Karl would rather have Marxist disciples running things than anybody that didn’t give the secret password to get in the club.

Posted on December 15, 2010 at 11:23amThis is the real and only solution. We need a constitutional amendment that does not allow unrelated legislation to be hidden within another bill.
Because the truth of the matter is while earmark spending is ridiculous, it pales in comparison to the insane bills that are passed by attaching the earmarks to them. You eliminate the ability to hide earmarks inside another piece of legislation and you eliminate the ability to buy votes for bad legislation.

Specific powers are loaned to the Fed by the states and all others are left to the states. Over many years the Fed has bribed and imposed it’s will upon the states. They have created a monster and now it is out of control. There is no way this Union of States would be agreed upon today, it barely survived the civil war, the first civil war over states rights. The brilliant founding fathers knew this all too well as they were truly guided by divine providence. It will be difficult to reclaim this power, but it must be done.

citizen legislators that go to Washington are what we need….there are guys out there like DeMint, Ryan, both Paul’s now (even though i don’t agree with Ron as much as i agree with Rand), that understand. maybe 6-10 Senators and hopefully the majority of the 63 new House members will be understanding of the will of the people and remain citizen legislators instead of politicians….
that is why I have registered with and support the GOOOH movement….we don’t need term limits we need men and women of honor that will show the integrity of Washington and remove themselves after 2 terms in the House, Senate, or Presidency….i mean come on, serving 2 House terms (4 years) then 2 Senate terms (12 years) and then 2 terms as President (8 years) and you would have been in office 24 years…. i don’t see that as a career politician despite the long years in office because they are doing different jobs, sort of like being promoted at work…but if they do their two terms at any level they either retire completely or retire and run for another office…sounds like a winner to me…

The marginal benefit of the “directing exisitng funding” earmarks is outweighed by the effects of the “create new spending” earmarks, in my opinion. I contact him on a regular basis reminding him of what a rat he is. He started out fair but Kennedy, Hutchison and the Pope got to him. Remember the Popes last visit; he said to give amnesty to Mexicans why, because they help pay down the 6+ billion dollar sex debt that has hurt the Catechism in a severe way.
He supports illegal aliens from any country to protect his Irish Catholic illegals. Yes, he was on Ted Kennedy’s Illegal Irish brigade along with John McCain, Schumer, Hutchison and others. This is why they have given 30 million Illegal Alien Mexicans illegal sanctuary. This is why he gave Texas border fence money to build a river levee for the protection of Juarez, Mexico; you know where all of the drug violence is rampant.
Remember Hutchison also helped to cut the fence money with Liberals after everyone else went home for Christmas holidays in 2006, I believe it was.
They send these little million dollar pork packages to one, two or three person teams to give them something fake to do and it is just a paycheck for services rendered.

Please don’t lump Coryn in with Irish Catholics. He is just YOUR senator, regardless of national origin or religion. Your comments are offensive to the millions of Irish of any faith and the millions of Catholics of any national origin.
The Pope does not direct us to do anything in our political decisions, monetary habits, or beliefs outside of faith other than tell us to live out our lives in a Christ-like fashion and let God, prayer, and the Holy Spirit influence our choices.
And despite what people thought in the 60′s, Kennedy didn’t bow to the Pope like Nixon said he would, unlike Obama bowing to every dictator on the planet. Kennedy would actually today be more conservative then a good 1/3 of the Republicans in office, like Coryn and McCain and Collins and Snow. Kennedy was for a strong national defense, low taxes personally and on business, and pro-life. Yes he believed in “compassionate” government, like GWB, but he also believed in personal responsibility and individual rights, even if he was flawed like all men and didn’t live up to his own beliefs at all times.
Don’t judge JFK by Ted…JFK would be sick at what his brother Ted and nephews did and currently do today.
Granted, I wouldn’t vote for JFK today unless the other guys were much worse…like Obama or Kerry or even McCain. But don’t lump people together just by their ancestors and their religious belief. That is just as bad as a KKK or Jim Crow law against blacks.

Posted on December 15, 2010 at 1:02pmI compare the debate over earmarks to that of the current court cases looking at the consitutionality of Obamacare. If it is unconstitutional for the federal government to force taxpayers to pay for goods or services, why is it that Congress can spend freely on just about anything they choose? I think anything other than money spent on operating costs, security, and (unfortunately) entitlement/welfare programs is NOT the Fed Gov’t responsibility. Taxpayers are forced to pay for thousands of programs and earmarks – the goverment does not have the right to spend tax dollars on anything they deem appropriate.

Posted on December 16, 2010 at 12:05pmI have a question. Washington politicians continue to slip earmarks into important legislation and if the important legislation passes so do ALL of the earmarks added to it. That is really stupid. My question is why don’t the individual states use state revenues for these projects. This would require that either the feds apportion monies based on state populations or some other fair method or state taxes rise and federal taxes go down. In other words let the states run the state and the feds do as the constitution stipulates and make the laws under which the country will operate.
Report Post »Does anyone doubt that these monies would be put to better use by the states versus the feds?
And even if they weren’t at least all of the taxpayers in all of the US would not paying for the stupidy of the individual states when they decide to build bridges to nowhere and similare projects undertaken to that a politition can ingratiate himself with the voters in his state.
