UPDATE:
It’s official: Reigning chairman Michael Steele has confirmed he will seek a second term as head of the RNC. His secrecy regarding plans to throw his hat in the ring have reportedly given him time to “flush out” competitors for the post. The official word came from Steele himself during a 7:30 p.m. ET conference call with RNC members.
_____________
On Monday morning, Fox News Channel was reporting that sources had confirmed the embattled RNC chairman would not be seeking re-election in January. But by Monday afternoon, FNC host Neil Cavuto walked back that initial report, stating that Steele would indeed be running for a second term:
Regardless of what unconfirmed reports say, Steele will likely announce his final decision during a Monday evening conference call with various party leaders. The AP reports:
Publicly, Steele has defended himself while criticism mounted of his stewardship of the party’s national operations. Privately, he has been weighing whether to seek a second term.
He sent an e-mail late Saturday to committee members asking them to join him on a private conference call late Monday. He didn’t disclose the subject matter. But GOP officials expect that he may announce whether he will run for re-election.
Republican insiders privately speculate that Steele will bow out of the race.
But the chairman is extraordinarily unpredictable.
Ha. No kidding.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 7:14pmI think that Palin would be a great choice. Someone posted the RNC leader should not seek the limelight. I disagree. Putting forth the message, energizing the base and raising money is all about the message and the limelight. Yet, I don’t think Palin will run, I think she has her eye on the republican primary and bringing the tea party into the republican party.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 7:43pmWell, if Palin were to run for and win the Chairmanship of the RNC, that would send a clear message to the “country-clubbers” who have destroyed conservatism within the Republican Party. That, after all, might be Sarah Palin’s greatest mission, UNITE, bring in THE DOUGH and lead them to victory in 2012!

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 7:44pmI have to agree that the RNC chair would be a much more feasible, and productive, role for Palin. She’s not going to win a national election, period. Unless several million Democrats die or come down with pneumonia and can’t vote in the next election, that’s simply not going to happen–she’s too polarizing, there’s too much objective evidence of her being a moron to suit the intellectual wing of the Left, and people aren’t going to switch their voting patterns so drastically just because a few moderates flipped flopped on the midterms. Even putting all that aside, the general demographic trend of America will only mean the demographics get “warmer” as the baby boomers are all but gone, the Gen-x’ers are out numbered roughly three times over to the Gen-Echo crowd, which is bigger than either demographic beside it, and is just now coming through school and gaining the franchise. Over the next decade, the entirety of that generation will come into political franchise and will be finishing school and moving into the workforce. They’re not all liberal, but they are uniquely rationalistic, and have a 1/3 split for pro-socialism, pro-capitalism, and unsure–the political dialog in this country will change soon.
On the other hand, in order to win the RNC Chairmanship, she only needs to appeal to the Republican base (which she does have a majority in, in contrast to the country writ large). And she certainly has proven herself more than capable of energizing the base and fundraising. The RNC, if it has any brains, will force her into this role as it’s best for their party (unless they want to/can find someone actually competent and a Republican, but I wouldn’t hold my breath), and keep her out of the primaries at all costs, if they want a prayer of a chance for defeating Obama.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 6:20pmBeckerhead will be in Ohio this weekend and for a mere 500 dollars you get to have your picture taken with him. I guess he needs the money. He does not make enough instilling as much fear as possible. He cherry picks our Christian bible to make himself look good. We know he thinks he will become a God when he dies and does not believe in the Trinity. He follows the book of mormon . Sad money hungry little man who will pay in hell.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 6:33pmPretty vicious skimmer57. Cherry picks? As in charity, hope and faith…ya, those are all traits only an evil fear monger will use, and we’re all little stupid people falling for it. I’m not the one with Socialistic tendencies. All he’s doing is using the words out of their mouths. You just don’t like it and call him crazy, trying to ignore that stupid little freedom of speech thing that seems to be in your way. Sure he knows and understand the Trinity. And it may not be the same, but then you verbosely sending him to Hell speaks highly of your faith.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 5:50pmI think that getting the RINO’s out is a start that happened Nov 2. However, we must also let the “elite Right” know that we are not going to allow them to continue picking the same people time and time again. They get comfortable in their jobs and start all this crap again. We have seen the best reason in the world to have term limits on our elected officials. Two terms and up or out is a choice I can get behind.

He had his chance to shine, but instead, remained silent or rolled over for anyone willing to scratch his belly or pointed their finger at him.

Yeah, big fightin words, Steele never backed up.
He did make time to write a book though and start kissing babies while promoting it.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 9:48pmAwesome! I hope he’s reelected. He‘ll have Palin’s support that’s for sure, and under his leadership the Republicans took back the house. Doesn‘t hurt that he’s a minority either. If he wasn’t going to win, he wouldn’t run, simple as that.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 9:57pmHonestly I couldn’t care less, because I’m only interested in true conservative candidates (THAT WILL STOP SPENDING!) and I‘m not sure if we don’t need a new conservative party. However, I do think Michael is in a tough position. Trying to make everyone happy is a losing proposition. As the party chair he needs to try to keep a big tent, but the reality is that there is a true conservative resurgence in the country and people are tired of a government that is addicted to spending. He seems to get it, but he‘s walking a thin line and a lot of conservatives don’t really care about this big tent idea. No matter what anyone says, he was the leader at the time that the Republicans opened a can of whoop ass of biblical proportions on the Democrats. Frankly it wouldn‘t hurt my feelings of we just threw out all the RINO’s and ran against them, but we have to realize that’s not/wasn‘t Michael’s charge. He has to represent all Republicans. Good or bad that’s the reality. And I think he probably did good job.
