‘That’s the Big Scoop?’: Shep Smith Rips Into Piers Morgan & CNN Over Off-Air Casey Anthony Interview

Foxs Shep Smith Rips CNN & Piers Morgan Over Casey Anthony InterviewOn Tuesday, CNN’s Piers Morgan took to his Twitter feed to promote the fact that he spoke, via telephone, with Casey Anthony. Then, that evening, he had Anthony’s lawyer, Cheney Mason, on his show. But there was something a bit odd about the segment: There was no audio from Morgan’s phone conversation with the young woman — only quotes that the host read on-air.

Initially, The Blaze noticed this and found it a bit odd, but we reasoned that lawyers for Anthony potentially declined to allow Morgan and CNN to record the discussion. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones to notice the issue. On his Wednesday broadcast, Fox News’ Shepard Smith slammed Morgan and charged that the interview was overhyped.

Foxs Shep Smith Rips CNN & Piers Morgan Over Casey Anthony Interview“CNN’s Piers Morgan — if you haven’t heard of him, he’s the guy who replaced the Larry King — he says he spoke with Casey Anthony on the phone for about ten minutes,” Smith said. “It was a big get — a G-E-T for the CNN.”

The anchor went on to criticize Morgan‘s discussion about Anthony’s weight (there has purportedly been accusations that she has gained weight floating around) — rumors that Morgan dismissed on-air. Smith, of course, couldn’t contain himself.

“Scoop: ‘This is CNN Breaking News: Casey Anthony Has Not Gained Weight!‘ You’ve come a long way, CNN,” he quipped.

When it came to analyzing the odd segment, during which the interview with Anthony was referenced but not shared, Smith was clear about where he stood.

“I mostly respect the work that all of them do. But CNN gets its big scoop, Piers gets on the phone with Casey, hangs up the phone, comes on TV and talks to the lawyer,” he explained. “Really? That’s the big scoop?”

Watch Smith discuss the Morgan interview in detail, below:

I’ll give Smith some credit, when he rips CNN the next time they do a puff piece or a softball interview
on or with Obama. Until then, I will withhold any applause. I however, will not hold my breath waiting such an event.

Shep is a good news reporter, he doesn’t do analysis. He has a good show and has been on for many years. FOX has a good line-up, that’s why they get good ratings and why OBAMA hates them. CNN and MSNBC are pretty biased compared to FOX.

Wow, just finished reading the string of comments. To summarize the comments so far…

    1. Almost everyone here hates the Fox News Channel except for the Neil Cavuto’s show.
    2. Shep is Gay (though no actual proof is stated)

    Did I get that right?

I am going out on a limb and say I like Fox News. I also like Sheppard Smith, especially when he goes off script, pretty funny guy.

I agree, he makes me laugh as well. I’m surprised that he would be so outspoken about CNN. While he makes me laugh, I’m pretty much down to only watching Cavuto at this point. He’s about the only one that I find credible anymore, which is sad to say. I’m tired of hearing what Bob Beckel, Juan Williams, and Alan Colmes thinks about conservative issues. We already know what they think. There are great alternatives now on the internet, that’s where I go for real news.

Shepard Smith has no idea what fair and balanced is. I can’t stand the guy. He thinks he is the news not what he is reporting. Shep thinks its about him. Its obvious that he is a liberal and I hate it when he talks down to people like he is above us with his self proclaimed genius ability to report the news.

I have called fox on several occasions and have voiced my dissatification with his show. I will not watch fox during that hour because I can’t stand having to listen to how Shep views the news.

The real problem is that Shep is gay and as such I am sure feels compelled to tow the leftist line. He may actually believes what he says or knows that if he were to wander off the Left-wing plantation that the Gay Mafia led by the despicable gay twerp David Brock would be all over him. In the end I don’t think Shep could last long on FOX once he is publically outed. My advice is to turn to FOX Business during Shep’s broadcasts. It is a breath of fresh air.

I’ve been primarily watching FOX news since around 2000 A.D., the commentators, of course, more than the news reporters. However, I’m growing a little tired of some of them and think a few fresh faces and voices might return my level of interest. FOX especially needs more males and fewer females. These days it appears easier for me to notice that more ladies don’t have a strong understanding of various topics being discussed. Change can be good.

Fox news is just as bad or worse with at least 100 breaking news stories a day. Problem is they reported that same news yesterday. They seem to pick 3 stories in the morning and wear it out ALL DAY LONG

It wouldn‘t be as bad if they didn’t have that banner at the bottom and that God aweful “breaking news” music!!!!! I hate that, especially when they start out a show with it. More times than not, you just seen the same darn story on the show you watched previously. It’s annoying!!!

I am starting to lose a lot of respect for FOX News. Not that any other is much better, but some radio commentaries are more into NEWS and less sensationalism. If I were Shep, I wouldn’t give Morgan, CNN, or Casey Anthony the air time. There are so many things in this world that demand attention that a phone call from who says she is Casey Anthony shouldn’t rank in the top 50.

Really EqualJustice? He’s a good guy? It amazes me that you can make that sort of statement about an on air personality who, when he shows any true emotion, is ostensibly liberal. Based on those limited facts I do not respect someone who tries to be something they are not. Fox News obviously panders to conservatives, but is full of New York liberals who seep their own personal views when conducting interviews that shows their true colors. Look how pro gay marriage Fox News, and most especially Shepard Smith, have become in the last two years.
