Franklin Graham: Japan Quake & Tsunami Could Be Signs of Second Coming

via Newsmax:
The cataclysmic earthquake and tsunami in Japan have all the trappings of Armageddon, but there’s no way to know whether the end times are upon us, evangelist Franklin Graham tells Newsmax. His advice in the wake of the tragedy: Help your fellow man as much as you can, and always be prepared to meet your maker.
“What are the signs of [Christ’s] second coming? War and famine and earthquakes … escalating like labor pains,” says Graham, founder of The Samaritan’s Purse charity. “Maybe this is it, I don’t know. We should pray and be vigilant. The Bible teaches us Jesus is going to return someday. Many of us we believe that day is sooner rather than later.”
“Whether the end is in five years, 10 years, 100 years or 1,000 years, we need to be ready to stand before God,” Graham says in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview.

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 8:47pmI’m always amused by the atheists who feel the need to comment on religion related stories. Maybe it is because I always figure if I had that point of view I wouldn’t feel the compulsion to try to sway others, I’d pass on by and use my very limited time on this earth to do something more important.
With that being said, having recently re-read Revelation, I did have to take a second and third glance at the section discussing the sixth seal!

Report Post »I hope that we may move beyond superstition to solve our problems. Some of statements made by religious people need clarifying and some balance for the odd individual that may be looking for insight here. And finally if you are part of group you should put your perspective out there.

Posted on March 21, 2011 at 4:15amI agree wholeheartedly, Deutscher. I have never been afraid to let my faith be challenged by those who do not believe as I do. I sincerely doubt that any changing of minds will ever occur, but it does me good to stand in debate since it surely clarifies my thinking and helps me to understand even more. I am not one to believe that our minds are ever capable of knowing everything. So the adventure of trying to encapsulate one’s thoughts in a manner that can be accurately communicated is always an exciting one to take, The difficulty in understanding the things of God is that it is like learning a foreign language. There are essentially three ways to learn a new language. You learn the rules and memorize words. You can go to the next step in learning the language and learn the structure of it. It essentially requires you to practice, practice, practice what you learn. The associative nature of the first two methods with the idea of learning about God and His ways are obvious. You can read the Bible, memorize passages, learn the right words to say and even find the means to put the things you learn into practical practice.
However, the most successful method of learning a language is to immerse yourself into the culture of that language. It is the same with learning the ways of God. This is not be mistaken with immersing yourself into the PEOPLE of God. Most people you will meet who are Christians are not much different than you in the fact that they have to, in order to learn the ways of God, immerse themselves INTO God. If they do not do this. If they, like many or most do, simply settle for learning the words of the Bible and not the Spirit behind it, then they will fail to convey the true nature of God’s kingdom.
The problem with most Christians is the same as that of virtually all unbelievers. They all try, in vain, to “translate” the ways of God into the language of the ‘flesh’. If you want to learn a foreign language, truly learn it, then you must get a point where you THINK in that language. If you are still finding yourself having to translate the sentences back into your base language, then you have not fully comprehended the new language. Even though you may think know a great deal about that language…you only knowing in terms your base language can understand.
That is why, as you will find when talking to me about the things of God, you will find yourself capable of understanding them only to the degree to which you can successfully “translate” them back into the language you know best. Still, it should not inhibit a person truly wanting to learn the language, even one not willing to immerse himself into that language, from carrying on legitimate and articulate conversations with someone who IS immersed in it.

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 8:37pmSigns of the times – wars, famine, apostasy, rampant immorality, natural disasters (many) and on and on. With all the things happening I was also thinking about the age of the earth. I believe that 7 is the number of perfection and completion. The Bible allows us to figure the years that the earth has been here (according to the Bible). From Adam to Jesus is 4,000 years. From Jesus to now has been 2012AD, this gives us about 6,000 yrs. The rapture of the church is a 7 year period, and after that will be a 1,000 year period of paradise on earth with Jesus as our King. When we total all of this we will come up with the number of completion 7,000. When all of this is done we as followers of Christ will enter eternity and those that refused Christ will also enter eternity in a place prepared for them. Please be ready for the return of Christ!

Posted on March 21, 2011 at 10:03pmGenesis 1:19 And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a fourth day.
20 And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good. 22 With that God blessed them, saying: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the waters in the sea basins, and let the flying creatures become many in the earth.” 23 And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a fifth day.
24 And God went on to say: “Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.” And it came to be so. 25 And God proceeded to make the wild beast of the earth according to its kind and the domestic animal according to its kind and every moving animal of the ground according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good.
26 And God went on to say: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every moving animal that is moving upon the earth.” 27 And God proceeded to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. 28 Further, God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.”
Please notice that it was not until the fifth creative period (day) that animals were created.- 2 Peter 3:8
Then on the sixth creative day, toward the end of that period, God created man and then the woman.
So, animals of all kinds existed long before Adam and Eve came on the scene.
Now, in Genesis 2:15 we get more information; 15 And Jehovah God proceeded to take the man and settle him in the garden of E´den to cultivate it and to take care of it. 16 And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”
18 And Jehovah God went on to say: “It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.” 19 Now Jehovah God was forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and he began bringing them to the man to see what he would call each one; and whatever the man would call it, each living soul, that was its name. 20 So the man was calling the names of all the domestic animals and of the flying creatures of the heavens and of every wild beast of the field, but for man there was found no helper as a complement of him. 21 Hence Jehovah God had a deep sleep fall upon the man and, while he was sleeping, he took one of his ribs and then closed up the flesh over its place. 22 And Jehovah God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and to bring her to the man.
23 Then the man said:
“This is at last bone of my bones (at last? how long was Adam alone in the garden?)
And flesh of my flesh.
This one will be called Woman,
Because from man this one was taken.”
The point is, there was plenty of time for these events to occur, maybe many thousands of years before Adam arrived.

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 9:39pmYou are absolutely right…Jesus was born, died and resurrected a Jew. His death and resurrection is part of the new/renewed covenant:
Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
When Jesus was talking to the Pharisees he said: John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. (The only people he was talking to was the Jews (House of Judah) because the House of Israel was already dispersed..so the other sheep were The House of Israel.
In Romans, the Gentiles are told that they are grafted into the olive tree. Romans 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Romans 11:18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
The Olive Tree the Gentiles were grafted into is the House of Israel part of the tree (since we are not Jewish). That is why the Bible tells us that “All Israel” will be saved, because everyone who is saved is Israel according to the Bible Covenant.

Jesus’ Second Coming is to establish his kingdom on earth from Jerusalem (Israel as a nation will worship Him). The Rapture is to celebrate the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (individual Jews & gentiles will meet Him in the Rapture).
Jesus has different roles but He is the Word of God made flesh for the salvation of all mankind; no hijacking. Think big. :)
To be fair, the Church at Pentecost was Jewish, and like you, they thought it would remain only Jewish. God had to reveal to them that salvation was for the gentiles as well. So I can understand how you may be confused. We are currently in the so-called dispensation of the gentiles,” and when “the fullness of the gentiles has come in,” the Jews will welcome Jesus as Messiah (Romans 9-11).

Also..yes, I would agree that Jesus is not a Christian…since the term was coined by the Romans after His death as a derogatory term describing His followers as “Little Christs”. More importantly, Jesus is well above human labels. He is not merely human. He is God.

The answer you are seeking can be found in scripture
Romans2:28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly; neither is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.
Romans2:29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
I was not born Jewish. But because I believe Jesus Christ, I, too, am a Jew because I believe in Him.

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 8:17pmThe Second Coming of Christ is an inward experience , an inner realization. The true and most benificial explanation is to become Christ -Like. Change yourself and you change thousands. As the Bible tells us ” be ye perfect , even as your Father in Heaven is Perfect” Is it difficult to be perfect? Of course, the highest goal in Life does not come easily. Thousands were on earth when the Lord walked among us and the were not changed. Why, because it takes great effort to change ourselves and with the Grace of God it is possible. Even if Jesus walked on the earth again , many or most would not change. It would be great if it were that easy, but it takes great effort and prayer and meditation. So we should not wait for Christ to physically be with us again, but to bring His presence into our hearts and souls NOW, and then we will realize ‘ Am I not with you always”

The really great thing about being a CHRISTIAN is that we get to start our forever lives here with GOD, JESUS and THE HOLY SPIRIT. I guess it’s sort of like a head start program for slow learners. That would be me. I started out my eternal journey at the age of 7. The theory of the rapture was not taught in the church until 1830 and really caught hold in the Scofield Reference Bible in 1909. The theory was taught by John Darby and Cyris Scofield. Remember God’s promises are to “whoever believes.”

That seems to be a Gospel of fear. The Rapture was never believed by the early church. Therefore it is false. Those who try to scare people into thinking God might leave us behind because we don’t believe a new and strange doctrine are preaching damned lies. And I use the term “damned” with precision.

Oh! So, Isles, when Jesus said:
==>”And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matt 25:30
or
For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Matt 24: 38:43)
or Paul said:
==>”By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.” 1 Cor 15:2
they were trying to scare people? God gives us his promises, but he also warns that we must believe and watch to partake of them.
Verses to consider:
==>”Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” (1 Thess. 4:17)
==> “… and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thess. 1:10)
==>”By FAITH Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness WHICH IS ACCORDING TO FAITH.” (Heb. 11:7) [Emphasis added]
==>”…and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;” (2 Pet. 2:5)
==> “Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. (Rev. 3: 10-11)
You base your belief that there is no Rapture on the fact that Christians were fed to the lions by the Romans (and Muslims). I make a distinction between martyrdom and God’s judgment of the world system (the unrighteous). God never said his saints would be spared from the former. It is quite the opposite. All Christian must be ready to die for Christ. On the other hand, God did spare Noah from the first judgment he brought on the earth. He will do the same for his Bride when the final judgment (the Great Tribulation) is unleashed on the world.
I am basing my belief on the typology of Noah — which Jesus himself uses, as well as the Jewish wedding (a seven day celebration) which He also makes reference to. If you read Rev. 19 you will see that the Marriage Supper of the Lamb takes place and THEN Jesus returns to earth with us (the army “clothed in fine linen, white and clean” which is always a reference to Jesus’ Bride) to rule the nations “with a rod of iron” (establish his millennial kingdom). At that time he will not come as a thief to “catch us away,“ but ”every eye shall see Him” (Rev. 1:7)
Beware of damning other Christians and calling their interpretations of the Word of God a lie. It may be that you are the one who is failing to see the truth, which would mean you are actually cursing the Word of God.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 4:32pmSYNOPSIS OF THE RAPTURE
I believe the church will be ‘caught up’ with the Lord | Perry Stone
Among Christians worldwide, there is controversy concerning teaching about the Rapture, an end-times event described by the apostle Paul in several Scripture passages (see 1 Thess. 4:16-17; Eph. 1:9-10; 1 Cor. 15:51-55, for example). The English word “rapture” is derived from a Latin translation by St. Jerome of the phrase “caught up” in the New Testament (see 1 Thess. 4:17, NKJV).
More accurate biblical phrases are “the gathering together” (see Eph. 1:10; 2 Thess. 2:1), the “catching away” (1 Thess. 4:17), and the “general assembly” (Heb.12:23). The term “rapture” refers to Christ’s return for the living saints and the resurrection of the dead in Christ, a predicted event whose timing is not revealed in the New Testament.
A type of the Rapture appears in Exodus 19. Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the Word of God. A “cloud” descended, and the “sound of the trumpet was very loud” as the “Lord descended” on the mount (Ex. 19:16-18). The “Lord came down” and “Moses went up” (v. 20).
This Old Testament event foreshadows a future happening described by Paul. He wrote that the “Lord Himself will descend from heaven … with the trumpet of God. … Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together … in the clouds” (1 Thess. 4:16-17).
The trumpet is identified by Jews as the Tekiah Ha Godolah, which is the longest and loudest last trumpet blast played during the Feast of Trumpets, known to Jews as Rosh Hashanah—the civil New Year on the Hebrew calendar. The day and hour of this fifth Jewish feast was not known (see Matt. 24:36) but was recognized when two witnesses identified the silver sliver of the moon.
Critics claim that the Rapture is a contemporary doctrine, started in the 1830s when a woman gave a prophetic word. Yet the concept of a pre-tribulation coming of Christ was taught by Dr. John Gill in 1748 and by Peter Jerihu in 1687. It was alluded to by Ephraim the Syrian in his writings in A.D. 373 and by the Shepherd of Hermes about 10 years after the Apocalypse was written about by John.
Though some suggest the Rapture is simply an escape teaching, they forget the principle of separation found throughout the Bible. Noah escaped death during the flood (see Heb. 11:7), Lot escaped the destruction of Sodom (see Gen. 19:29), the Hebrews escaped the destroying angel (see Ex. 12:23), Rahab was spared when Jericho’s walls fell (see Heb.11:31), and in the coming tribulation a Jewish remnant will escape the Antichrist (see Dan. 11:41; Rev. 7:3).
The patterns of the fall feasts also reveal a pattern for the Rapture. Christ was crucified near Passover, in the tomb during Unleavened Bread and seen alive during First Fruits. The church was born at Pentecost (see Acts 2:1-4), and the three fall feasts all have a future fulfillment. The Rapture is a pattern of the feast of Trumpets, the Tribulation is parallel to events on the Day of Atonement (when the nation of Israel was judged) and Tabernacles represents the future kingdom of the Messiah ruling on earth.
Even the ancient Jewish wedding is a picture of the marriage of the Messiah. When the groom came to receive his bride, the wedding celebration continued for seven days. Some suggest this is why the church will be in heaven for the entire seven years of the tribulation.
Whatever a person believes, we are to remain faithful till the end. We should plan as though we will be here a long time but live as though each day could be our last day. In this manner we are always prepared to meet the Lord.

It includes INTERPRETATIONS of the Bible which never were believed before the 19th centurty. Jesus and the apostles had authority to deliver truth from God. Darby and Scofield did not. According to the church for EIGHTEEN CENTURIES the Rapture is not a Biblical truth. It is a gross misinterpretation.

Perhaps you didn’t read what I wrote. I said preaching that disbelieving in the Rapture might cause God to leave one out was a damned lie. I wasn’t damning anybody, merely declaring a false idea one that could rob people of thgeir trust in God. Since I base my understanding of the Word of God upon the truths consistently handed down from the apostles through the chiurch I think I am better able to distinguish the truth form a lie than those who think a new truth can pop out of nowhere after 18 centuries. That kind of thinking goes with the cults and sects, the Mormons, JWs, Adventists, Christian Scientists, and Swedenborgians.

==> “Jesus and the apostles had authority to deliver truth from God.”
But, Isles, I quoted Jesus and the apostles! By contrast, you just keep repeating that it is a new doctrine. It looks like it was you who didn’t read what I wrote.
==>”I said preaching that disbelieving in the Rapture might cause God to leave one out was a damned lie. I wasn’t damning anybody, merely declaring a false idea one that could rob people of thgeir trust in God. ”
And I am being consistent with Bible teachings on faith. If there is a Rapture, then I don’t see how you will be in it, if you reject it or are undecided. Give me one promise of God that doesn’t require faith. It is easy to be offended by the truth. Unbelievers get equally angry when you tell them they won’t go to heaven unless they are born again. That fundamental truth was lost for centuries and it was only recovered during the Reformation. Still, it may be that all God will require is faith in his Son. If that is the case, even you who called it a lie would be spared in His mercy.
I find it interesting that Rapture deniers always warn that once people discover they have to go through the Tribulation, they will lose their faith in God. However, that is not true, because in that case the only logical conclusion would be that you were wrong, not that God failed you. Besides, we all have to be willing to die for Christ. On the other hand, if you don’t believe in the Rapture and it does happen, imagine the feeling of loneliness and despair at being left behind. After all, it is going to get pretty awful down here, and you could get bitter toward God for leaving you out.
Believing in the Rapture is a cult? Really? If that is your view, then you are, in fact, damning those who believe in it — as well as the Word of God, if it turns out you were wrong. Hopefully, I’ll see you in the air. ;)

Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Good scriptures you quoted.
When Jesus Christ was on earth, he spoke extensively about the Kingdom of God. (Luke 4:43) Naturally, people who heard him wanted to know when that marvelous Kingdom would come. Indeed, three days before Jesus was wrongfully put to death, his disciples asked him: “What will be the sign of your presence [in Kingdom power] and of the conclusion of the system of things?” (Matthew 24:3)
Jesus told them that only His Father, Jehovah God knew the precise time when the Kingdom would take full control of the earth. (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32)

The evil Roman empire of Christ’s time, was crumbling to dust and to save itself from turning into dust, redressed in the robes of the now Roman church and became respectable. Glorious in sight and spectacle, imperial in structure and world domineeringness. It could not subdue the early church and trick it into submitting to it. They turned the old idols of Rome to the saints. Scripture was (and still is) replaced by the fathers writings. Doctrines needed but not in evidence in Scripture, were introduced in the Apocrypha, Indulgences for MONEY led to other abuses of the parishioners. Because scripture was NEVER declared in power and truth, baptism of infants into the church and the forgiveness of original sin came into being. [note]: forgiveness of ALL sin would automatically deprive them of all their indulgence money.Prayers for the dead also come at a price. {It is appointed unto man once to die, then the judgment}. Continual persecution during the Roman church history is still prevalent today in some countries. The “ruling the kings and princes of the earth” Why else would a “church” need national embassies in the Vatican?

Yet if a child can have the heart to forgive transgressions and sins from brethren, and the child is so small compared to the Father who has a larger heart even still, then the Father surely can forgive the child- hence “The Lord’s Prayer.” And we know this because Abraham was gaining the Heavenly Father’s compassion for those in Sodom because Abraham was able to get the Heavenly Father to spare Sodom for a short time if there were only a few that were good, and Abraham was just a friend to God, and therefore much more will God listen to his son.

How are YOU proclaiming the crucified Christ through your mocking words?”
risen!!
notice that Jesus crucified is in the past tense. Jesus is to be preached crucified and risen. he is not in agony. the cross is EMPTY. the tomb is empty. to portray Jesus in agony is point to a non-resurrection. paul also said if the Lord is not risen we are yet in our sins.
but then catholics believe we ARE yet in out sins and therefore need priests to forgive them. no.
catholic doctrine is wrong in both. the revelation IS the return of Christ when He is revealed from heaven and every eye will see Him. after the tribulation and before the wrath of God and Lamb.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 12:40pmJIMCONSTITUTION, show showing Jesus on the cross denies the resurrection. That would be news to Christians who for centuries have shown both images as testimony to the Christian faith. Your understanding of Catholicism and of basic Christianity is rather weak. If you think the sins you commit after baptism are “covered” in the sense that no act of confession and repentance is necessary there is a term for that, CHEAP GRACE.
Go take a look at you average Evangelical church and you will see a disturbing trend of a total lack of the cross portrayed. I speak as an evangelical Protestant. The fact that Christ really DID suffer for our sins is one we too easily push from our consciousness unless there is a visible reminder. “They shall look on him whom they have pierced” is not just for the Judgment Day. It works for our regular worship life and helps us not to take his sufferings for granted.

Posted on March 21, 2011 at 3:41pmI am a former evangelical, there is such an emphasis placed on self and feelings and little emphasis placed on the Word. The churches treatment of revelations should be a huge red flag.Christ was crucified, he rose, the word of God was poured out upon ALL flesh. We need to heed or perish. Knowlege of God has nothing to do with a WWJD bracelet and all to do with us being what we are supposed to be. Israel in biblical times did what they pleased instead of what God told them to do. Didn’t work out very well for them did it? The Bible repeatedly admonishes us to do what God tells us, not what we want to do.(Give us Barrabas).

“Also, Ju·bi·le . Chiefly Biblical . a yearlong period to be observed by Jews once every 50 years, during which Jewish slaves were to be freed, alienated lands were to be restored to the original owner or an heir, the fields were to be left untilled, and all agricultural labors were to be suspended. Posted on March 19, 2011 at 8:47pmRuffus, I’m pretty familiar with the Bible and am not sure where you got that from. True, Israel will be saved (Romans 11:26) before Jesus returns to establish his kingdom on earth (Rev 19:17), but seven years prior to Jesus establishing his kingdom he will return to remove all unbelievers from the world before the seven year tribulation (1 Th 4:16). Franklin is right about “birth pangs,” though, and natural disasters are indeed increasing in frequency and magnitude, just like labor pains become more frequent and intense before a woman gives birth. Sadly, people like Guerrino_P and Catharsis will continue to remain willfully ignorant even while the world crumbles around them.
…..
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Mt 24:6)
..
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” (1 Th 4:16-17)
..
“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter.’ He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, ‘Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great.’ Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.” (Rev 19:11-21)

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 9:53pmAmen! I agree, but I want to add one thing…. everyone seems to focus on the “wars and earthquakes,” and while I definately think they are increasing, getting more intense and closer together like birth pains there is another sign that I believe we are about to see. HYPER-INFLATION. Take a look at the Seal Judgements in the beginning of Revelation.
In Revelation 6:2 the 1st Seal is opened which brings forth the White horse: Rider held a bow and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
My opinion on this: In the last 100 years we have had WWI and WWII along with many others wars in between. Most wars had the goal of “conquering” someone, one country invading another to conquer them or us going in to conquer a dictator etc.
In Rev. 6:3 we have the 2nd Seal opened and it brings forth: Red Horse: Rider given power to take peace from the earth and make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
My opinion: Now it seems there is very little peace in the world and there is not really any one person, country or regime to conquer, now there is just fighting out of hatred (the terrorists hatred for us). We also have the riots and uprisings in the world just causing violence and chaos. Seems peace is getting harder and harder to find.
Then you have the third seal, Rev. 6:5 which brings about: Black Horse: Rider holding scales saying “A quart of wheat for a days wages, and three quarts of barley for a days wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine.”
My opinion: This is hyper inflation, wheat and barley are things the common people eat and make food out of etc. Oil and wine are things only the “wealthy and elite” will be able to afford, they will be left untouched meaning the wealthy and elite will be OK while the rest of the world suffers. Are we not looking at this possibility on a global scale?
And remember, everything in Revelation is talking about a “global” scale which is why you can say yes we have seen hyper inflation before, but never globally.
This is all just my opinion, but it seems many of the world events are leading towards these things and quickly!

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 3:33amI find it troubling, that some are convinced that earthquakes and disasters and wars are coming at more frequency, and basing their behavior on that.
Consider this: for the first time in history, an individual, can instantly know hear and learn about news from around the world with a click. Previously all was local, and the world filtered in.
So it is this flood of information that makes it appear to be escalating.
Graham, said it right.
We individually, will end in the world, THAT is THE given.
That is why you should pay attention and straighten up and fly right.
The way you live and behave after that, should not change a bit no matter the circumstances.
You are the truth, or not.
I personally do not believe in the rapture, it is a school of thought created by modern men,
and I believe sews the seeds for a great falling away, when those who believe in it, end up in the actual tribulation. So ask yourself now. Will my faith be shaken if the tribulation comes and i’m still here ?
Will I be dejected and feel rejected and lost ?
I find it almost the same as living a good life to only end up murdered or waste away from some terrible disease. It will test your faith exceedingly.
If it IS the end times, the church will be pursued and harrassed.
It won’t be verbally, people.
It will continue “until the full number of martyrs has been fulfilled”
Faithful unto death will have a new meaning.
Are you truly ready ?
For examples, see the coptic church, or the church in Iraq, or any other church in an islamic state.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 8:29amThree facts about the book of revelation:
It was one of the last and most contented books to be added to the Canon.
the church has never established a definitive interpretation of its prophecies.
The church traditionally did not allow it to be read publically in service where young Christians and the unbabptised might hear it, believing the scripture suitable only for mature believers. The wild fanciful certainties about what must happen and whant ambiguous end times statements “clearly” mean bear this out.
Sadly many Protestant churches see evelation as an evangelistic tool. The whole Left Behind series and the theology behind them are part of what I believe to be the worst evangelustic campaigns, though I will admit that God even uses bad tools (he uses US, after all) but I fear much of the soil these tool are aimed at is very rocky.
To me apocalyptic prophecies are not meant that we might know when things are going to happen. Otherwise Jesus would not have said that he would come at an unexpected time. But we are to know that Jesus WILL come back, and that the things that happen in the world are part of his plan. I look at revelation as a series of visions, not chronological in order but overlapping, like from multiple perspectives. The image that coms clear through them is that things will get worse before they get better, both because the world will pamp up its war against God and because God willl ramp up his war against evil, and God wins. He wins definitively and eternally. Justice and righteousness prevail.
So be ready.
That’s it. Anything more distracts us from living for Jesus to bring people into the Kingdom. We are not able to corporately check out of this world until God brings it to an end. This means we will go through the tribulation. god didn’t spare the Christians thrown to the lions in the first centuries. he isn’t sparing those being killed for their faith today. He wants us to stand as witnesses until no witness is needed, until He is here in the flesh.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 8:58am@ ISLES………..I agree with your statement for the most part. The one thing I would say is that I believe the book of revelation is to be a comfort to God’s people. So that when they see these types of things that they will know that it is part of God’s plan and like you said He is in control. Jesus did the same thing with the disciples. He told them he foretold things so that when it happened they would not fear. I would also mention that the book of Revelation was the reason I came to know the Lord in the first place and became a saved man! Not that I think that is necessarily the best way to bring people to the Lord (no one used that for me, but it did help me to develop a healthy fear of the Lord knowing all things would be brought to an end and I would stand before Him some day. That’s why I confessed Jesus as Lord and live for Him today). I believe the entire word of God is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (not that you don’t ISLES).

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 9:19amWATCH, It definitely is a comfort for a suffering church. I believe the prophecies become most clear when the church is suffering. Churches that are not truly persecuted but are merely world weary are more likely to misunderstand it. The idea of the Rapture would never have come from a persecuted church.
Of course God can even work through any tool, or any fool, that speaks of him. People come to faith in so many ways I would not scoff at any technique. The reality of impending doom is serious, even if it is only our own personal death, and if images of the Day of Doom focusses the soul upon that, all well and good. Plus, given how obsessed many contemporary churches are with interpreting this book, and how much bad teaching there is about it, I DO think it prudent that the church offer some teaching on this to keep people from going off the deep end.
We’re all going to die. Everything built by man will fall. These are eternal truths. Every individual death should be an occasion to reflect on the state of our soul and on the One who saves it. Every tragedy should remind us of the end of History and of Him who will redeem and remake the world.

“But we preach Christ crucified” 1 Corinthians 1:23

How are YOU proclaiming the crucified Christ through your mocking words?

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 5:59pmPlease, please read Matthew 24 in the bible, it talks about all of this. Also, the bible says not to make predictions about when the end will be because “,,,not even the Son knows, only the Father”. So, according to scripture, only God knows when the end is and we should be ready, but not make predictions about when it is.

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 8:56pmNobody knows when the return will be, the best thing to do is be prepared and live every day as it is your last. Earthquakes and Tsunami’s have happened for hundreds and thousands of years why is this a shock to people. It could be another 1000 years before Jesus Christ returns for all we know. There is a much greater chance of one of us dying tomorrow than the Lord returning so the real question should be are you prepared to meet your maker?

Yes, you have freedom of religion, but that is not the point.
The point is you bible thumbers are doing nothing but confusing the fairy tales of the bible with facts in the news. Beck is no longer a news opinion show, as much as he has made 5PM on fox a religious broadcast dressed up as a news program.
Keep religion in churchs, it has no business mixing with news or politics. You and the rest of the so-called Christians here preach the Bible in the same fashion as the taleban preach the Koran.

AS with this language, Christianity , as well as the Christian context of this country, is a must to correct understanding of the subject at hand, namely the leading and preparation of a person or a nation into the future. Can one really discover Christ with out the kneeling at the cross in faith, believing that He IS the Son of God and He DID raise from the dead? Education for the sake of education is not a good thing. A great being once
Report Post »said, with your knowledge, don’t forget the wisdom and understanding. The over priced oracles of “Higher Learning” provide knowledge but no wisdom or understanding. The internet and millions of books can do that!
All that to say this, 250 years ago our population and leadership all knew Christ and His walk in their daily lives, Their leading showed the difference with today. Their laws, letters and comments prove the superiority of Christ over knowledge alone. Freedom in ANY life begins and ends with Jesus Christ, His knowledge, His wisdom, and His understanding.

Posted on March 21, 2011 at 11:45amWATCHMANY2K- You are absolutely right that we are hearing of all these things more because of the 24 hour instant news. But in my opinion that just makes Jesus’ words all the MORE facsinating! Look at the time He was talking, there was not tv or radio or even newspaper, the only way anyone heard of an earthquake in another town or country was if someone traveled and told them about it. That was it. So the very fact that Jesus knew there would be a time that we would hear of (and yes, His exact words in Matthew 24 were “You will HEAR OF wars and rumors of wars etc., not necessarily that there would be more of them) I think is more evidence of His prophecy coming to light. Imagine what people must have thought in that day to have someone telling them they would hear of things happening all around the globe!
Just like the many other prophecies made about this time, such as the Gospel being preached to all the nations. How could He have known that were possible? The apostles had to walk by foot from town to town, they would have had to be extremely ambitious to think they would preach the gospel to every nation! Yet in a day of the internet and traveling missionaries the Gospels ARE preached around the world! God in Daniel talked of people traveling to and fro and an increase in knowledge, have we not seen this? Again, traveling back then was either by foot or donkey or camel. How much do you suppose they “traveled to and fro”? Not like today with planes, trains and automobiles! And as far as knowledge, even my mom often tells me how much knowledge has exploded in her lifetime alone! Imagine in those days someone telling you that someday it would be possible to put a permanent mark on someone and track all their selling and buying. That would have seemed impossible! Yet today that technology exists.
Lastly, I am not 100% certain of a rapture. While I believe the scriptures used to make that case are compelling, I can see it, I am not certain of it enough to put all my eggs in that basket. That is why I, like Glenn often says, am praying for the best but preparing for the worst. I am preparing for bad times whether its the tribulation coming or not, and if there is a rapture hopefully someone will find what I have prepared and it will be helpful to them. If there is a rapture and I am left behind, I would be devastated but not dejected. I would know that I have no one to blame but myself. My biggest hope is that my kids go, if God only took them and left me behind, I would accept that. But if there is no rapture and we all must endure then the best thing I can do for them is to teach them to live a Godly life so that in the end, whenever that end may be, they will be rewarded with everlasting life in Heaven with Jesus.

If we “keep religion in churches” we would not be doing our duties as Christians. As Jesus said in Matthew 9:12 “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick….For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

There is no reason to believe these are “signs”. We need to do what needs to be done for our fellow man. That is what we are on earth to do. Posted on March 21, 2011 at 3:11pm@islesfordian, I assume “the church” means the roman catholic church. I am shocked that Revelations is not taught as any other book of the Bible. It references and reinforces all biblical teachings. There is no hidden meanings or wild radical meanings. It simply is a revelation to John, in which all teachings are come to fruition. The second coming will have no warning, those who bear fruit will assume their rightful position in the kingdom. Those who don’t, won’t. It is very simple, be what you are supposed to be, and you will be just fine no matter WHEN the second coming is. Just do what the word of God says. Read the word yourself, do not trust a “religious leader” to tell you what God says or what to do. They are serpents and scorpions. You are responsible for YOUR OWN SALVATION. Take that seriously.

Posted on March 21, 2011 at 3:53pm@encinom, if the Bible is a fairy tale to you, then do not believe in it. We do not need you, we do not want you. The Word was poured out upon all flesh, you can accept it or reject it. Do not impose your views upon me and I will do the same. It seems strange to me that those who reject the word are the most vociferous in their opposition to it. Are you afraid? Do you know it is true, but do not want to abide? Most Will reject the word but only the truly evil will actively work to silence it. Look in the mirror before you have any further comment on the word of God, what are your motivations. I think you fear him and want to be convinced or shown proof of his existence. That is sad, no proof is forthcoming. God’s word was fulfilled with the coming of Jesus, his life which was an example of what we are to be, his death at the hands of the Jews which was foretold by God and his resurrection which fulfills the promise. The end times started about 2000 years ago. Like it or not, the bus is filling up fast, will you be on it?

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 12:54am@ 338……………actually I would and I believe Jesus would love to have ENCINOM. And also God gives teachers to the church. Of course they must teach in accordance with the word or they are false, but the idea that we are to read the Bible for ourselves and not listen to teachers is anti-Biblical.
Hebrews 5:12
In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!
James 3:1
[ Taming the Tongue ] Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
1 Corinthians 12:28
And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
Ephesians 4:11
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,
Also, ISLES was right on the money Revelation is a very difficult book to understand even for the most learned and mature. Of course we should teach it and strive to learn what it teaches that is why God put it there. Of course it fully supports the rest of scripture 100% and ISLES is not catholic. Great men of God wiser than you or I have held many differing opinions on the meaning of Revelation and all can make strong arguments for why they hold to their beliefs. Pre, Post and Amillennialism. Revelation was also mainly written not for apocalyptic prophecy (although this is certainly contained herein)as much as it was to provide comfort for a church that was being persecuted and enduring difficulties and its assured victory and inheritance secured in Jesus Christ the King of Kings.
