Frat Party Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 11 Injured in Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (The Blaze/AP) — Police say they’re searching for two suspects in a shooting at an Ohio house that killed one student and injured 11 people, including six students, just north of the Youngstown State University campus.

Youngstown police Chief Jimmy Hughes says the suspected gunmen were involved in a dispute at a party hosted by the Omega Psi Phi fraternity before the shooting early Sunday morning. He says the pair left, then returned and began firing outside the house, which was crowded with 50 or more people, some as young as 17.

Police were called to the scene at 3:39 a.m. where shots had been fired “indiscriminately” from outside the house.  Authorities found multiple shell casings from two semiautomatic handguns, one a .40-caliber and the other a .45-caliber, Hughes said.

There have been no arrests made yet, but Hughes says investigators are working to positively identify the two shooters based on eyewitness accounts.  He expects to have arrest warrants by the end of the day and “hopefully, we’ll have them in custody soon after that,” Hughes added.

Police say the men have ties to the area, noting they are not believed to be students at the university. “There were some unhappy guests. People at the party recognized them. Two of them were ejected,” the chief said.

The scene’s one fatality — 25-year-old Jamail Johnson of nearby Girard, Ohio — was reportedly shot once in the back of the head and several times across his lower body.

A spokeswoman for the nearby St. Elizabeth Health Center said eight of the 11 who were injured were treated and released by Sunday afternoon but was unable to release the conditions of the other three.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich issued a statement saying he was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting and offered state resources to the university and law enforcement.  “I join all Ohioans in expressing my deepest sympathy to the victims, their families and to the entire university community,” he said.

Seton Hall, September 2010!!!! Same story, scenario, suspects, victims, reactions, ect. Its a hard knock life for those who are trying to get an education while having to associate with thugs and punks like these. Guys can not get into a Frat party for which they are not affiliated with, no matter what! Deal with it!! To be so devastated that you must kill over this is unimaginable! I am willing to bet that the shooter or shooters were know to law enforcement and have extensive criminal records! I have been right on all the other assumptions!!! I too will pray for the victims family!

Why is there a 17 year old victim at a Frat party?? Why too is there a 31 year old victim there? (Yes I do understand that there should actually be no victims – tragic that there are) I’m just wondering about the age range of the Frat Party attendees. I would expect a range of 18 -22 or so (the general age for college students)

you have it right-this was a party at the free ride frat -chock full of 17 year olds-under age drinkers charged 5 bucks after a pat down at the door. The press release has been sand blasted -haz mat teamed to prop up YSU’s image. The area of Youngstown right by this university would make Camdem N.J. look like Beverly Hills.A white man has been left in a wheel chair for life over another shooting at a frat house in 2005.This crime is 24-7 in ghetto gulag y-town.YSU is more concerned about the minority cash cow gov funding -and football than they are about maintaining standards and protecting the students that dont get their ghetto THUG on.The VIGALS will start and we will all have to pretend to pity the disfunctional culture that forces tax payers to pay for it and a hero is a person serving alcohol to 2o year old baby mama dramas that ditch a 9 month old baby to party all night at frat houses @3:30 am.The perps were invited left into this house and came back-they were known friends of these innocent students drinking grape soda and playing chess in the wee hours of the morning.ITS GHETTO- YSU GHETTO FAB STATUS.

I would venture a guess that the gun used was not a legal gun. I fail to comprehend the liberal idea that gun laws keep illegal activity somehow at bay. I would also like to know how many gun related crimes are committed with illegally obtained vs legally obtained guns (I have searched high & low and can find no numbers) I would also venture to say the the majority of guns crimes are committed with illegally obtained guns – which is probably why there are not stats for this – would blopw a huge hole in the liberal anti-gun talking points by illuminating that gun controll laws do nothing to dissuade criminals (hint to liberals – the term criminal should somehow come to bear – criminals will break the law no matter how many are written – that’s why they are called criminals – duh!!)

First of all, Waiting on the left to blame Beck and Palin is normal practice for the left. We are used to it. And was a joke for us who know how the left blames us for everything. We know how they are…. But guess it was above your humor level????? And if you read the first thing i typed? “I’m praying for the famlies” That‘s something i didn’t see from you? You don’t pray???? And you never hear it from the Liberal left? Guess they don’t know who GOD is? Now lighten up a little and go back to MSNBC.

I live just on the side of the border with that city and state, let‘s say it’s not a place you or I would get caught at in the dark. I am rather surprised they stuck a very solid college in the middle of that war zone. Besides the crime the actual running of the city has left something to be desired. They are however trying to bring it back to life. Youngstown is known for it’s past with big Mafia ties. As for concealed carry, you can’t really do much when someone drives by and unloads on your walls. I would understand if they were face to face but the cowards took the easy road.
