Frightening Video: Car Goes Flying Through the Air During Horrific Race Crash

The 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France is one of the most grueling events in all of sports. It’s also proving to be quite dangerous. This year has been no different.

Take, for example, Anthony Davidson. Davidson crashed today in extraordinary fashion. Business Insider explains:

Davidson, driving the Toyota TS030 Hybrid, is passing the much slower Ferrari 458 Italia. It appears the driver of the Ferrari just turns into the back of the Toyota as if he never saw him.

The Toyota soars like a plane and both cars end up upside down against the wall. The Ferrari driver walked away while Davidson was taken by ambulance.

Here’s the video:

Toyota released a statement on Davidson’s condition: “Doctors at the circuit have confirmed that Anthony is suffering from shock and back pain. However, there are no signs of any injuries and he is walking and talking with no problems.”

Deadspin says the crash happened in hour five of the 24-hour race.

Watch the VELOCITY Channel for the full story of the 1955 wreck at Le Mans. They’re still not sure of the exact death toll. (..and the cars were a lot nicer-lookin’ then, imho.) It’ll chill you to the bone.

Poor job by the Ferrari driver. He should have let the Toyota go because he already lost the position. He probably left the track quickly before the other driver’s crew found him.

I’m a big fan of oval racing, and I hate it when there’s a big wreck. Especially red flags (stoppages.) It just kills (no pun intended) the action of 43 cars competing at top speed. And I also hate it because it too often results in one of my favorite drivers getting knocked out of the race.

I’m not as much a fan of FIA road course races because the cars are spread out too much and passing is almost non-existent among the same class of cars. It’s more about endurance.

MRMANN, you’re sick, I suggest you get help. If you knew anything about auto racing fans, you would find the opposite of your statement to be true. I’ve been a NASCAR fan for 18 years and have met and conversed with hundreds of fellow fans. I’ve always found it to be closely knit community. And shockingly – maybe for you MRMANN – we all make a point before each race to be hopeful (and gasp) prayerful that no one gets hurt.

I don’t get the big excitement re: cars driving in ovals (car racing), what makes it so compelling to the fans–is the draw that a driver may die & I’d get to watch that? Same with boxing. & tightrope walking (with no net). I find this shocking.

Yes, because there is no other merit to watching racing. Not the excitement of man and machine pushing the edges of technology and control to try to get that one extra second faster than his opponent. It has nothing to do with watching cars blaze past at triple digit speeds. Nothing to do with the well-oiled machines of the pit crew and garage crew working at a fever pace to keep their car going. Nope, it’s all about the crashes. Just like horse racing, people only watch it to see if a horse throws a shoe. People only watch football to see if someone breaks a bone. Baseball, in hopes the batter gets hit by a pitch. Hockey for the fights. Soccer for the riots. Just a morbid bunch we gear heads.

Excellent! But don’t forget the air pollution, noise pollution, waste of untold number of square miles of globe for the tracks that should be given back to Mother Gaia.

Myself …… could never understand people posting about the fact they couldn’t understand why others engaged in a particular activity.

If you don’t get it, maybe your family will. Auto racing pioneered the inventions that enable people to walk away from such a hideous crash and talk about it later. I witnessed the wrecks that killed JD McDuffie and Dale Earnhardt.Seat belts, crush panels, even those out-dated tire barriers have made fatal accidents the exception rather than the norm. When your child can come home from a wreck, like my daughter did when she was 19 – you will understand too.

Well, MRMANN, is suspect you should just stay in your house, sit in front of your computer, and take cheap shots at others who actually enjoy exciting sports. I love cars. I always have, always will. I drive a modified Carmaro SS. It‘s fast and it’s loud but nothing close to what you can see at a race track, so I enjoy watching all kinds of racing. If you don’t like it, don’t watch. That’s easy.

I’m a big fan of oval racing, and I hate it when there’s a big wreck. Especially red flags (stoppages.) It just kills (no pun intended) the action of 43 cars competing at top speed on a track that’s two miles or less. And I also hate wrecks because it too often results in one of my favorite drivers getting knocked out of the race.

I’m not as much a fan of FIA road course racing because the cars are too spread out and passing is almost non-existent among same class of cars. FIA is more about endurance.

My wife had a broken neck at 16, about 15 years before I met her. She recovered completely except for occasional neck/shoulder pain. Hopefully this guy will do as well.

As long as there is nobody killed in the video, you can watch it. If it’s a “snuff film” you can’t watch it.
