Frustrated Ann Coulter Loses it With Guest on Hannity Over TSA

On Wednesday night, Sean Hannity invited Ann Coulter and Fox legal expert Peter Johnson Jr. on the show to discuss TSA screening measures. What ensued was a contentious, awkward meltdown by Coulter after Johnson interrupted her several times.

In fact, Coulter was so upset at one point that she asked Hannity to step in and “stop” Johnson and vowed never to appear with Johnson again. And that’s after she started yelling on live TV.

Grab the popcorn. The exchange heats up at about 4:00, but the entire debate is worth watching:

What the hack are you talking about? She doesn’t lose it at all. Who came up with the title for this piece? It’s bias to decribe it as “losing it” since she calmly asked Peter to let her respond but he would not allow her to complete her answer.

Highly trained dogs would have been much MUCH cheaper than these scanners and I doubt anyone would feel their privacy was invaded if a dog sniffed your crotch. (Dogs will do that anyway.)

Actually, the real problem is that if you count the number of seconds that each talked, Coulter was given much more time. She created fake outrage at his interruptions to stall because she had no solutions to offer. Proof of this is that she led with a bunch of false statements and solutions during the first two minutes when she was preferentially given the opportunity to speak. Her claims about the policy being designed to appease Muslims is a travesty on hits face, as Johnson pointed out. And her claim that we should follow El Al’s example is unworkable as all those who understand this issue recognize. The problem is that Hannity wants a celebrity on the show for ratings rather than an expert to impart facts and knowledge. Also, I do believe the proper response when confronted on air with a know-nothing who insists on lying and making up facts rather than sticking to the empirical data is ABSOLUTELY to cut them off. She would have gone all day about this being the fault of liberals and Muslims rather than accurately stating the problem and offering a solution. Heck, Hannity had to cut of her opening monologue to let Johnson speak. It is amazing how people’s own biases being confirmed by a loudmouth like Coulter causes them to miss the fact that she spoke more and had plenty of opportunity to offer solutions but failed to do so. In between, there were a lot of lies and misstatements that apparently Coulter fans here don’t know are simply not true.

Well, of course Ann can’t quickly explain her thoughts.

Liberalism appeals to emotionalism. Those that preach it appeal use an emotional argument to convey their message. Those that are more receptive to an emotional argument generally suck at math, science, and technology. By technology I am not talking about web design which appeals to the artsy liberal types. I am talking about base technology that makes the internet possible. In any case emotional arguments appeal to the undisciplined mind and to humanities primal basic instincts.

Conservatism appeals to rationalism and is based upon rational arguments. Its practitioners have a natural instinct toward math science and technology that is much more sophisticated than web design. By its nature it is more difficult to communicate its than just appealing to the primal emotional psyche of the of the intended recipient. The intended audience must actually think about the message and deduce the truth themselves. To put it simply the speaker must first present one fact after another and build toward the logical conclusion which is called the Eureka Moment.

The entire media has shied away from the term “profiling” SO far, that anytime it is discussed, it must always be racial. While we all know racial profiling is what is truly needed here, why not use the El Al system of “Psycological profiling” instead? It would take a trained security professional just a few minutes during your check-in process to determine if you were someone who required additional screening. For instance, just as Ann stated, if you are foreign born, security should be asking you questions. A well trained security expert has a pretty good sense of whether you are telling the truth or not. An additional step is replace each of these multi-million dollar machines with dogs. I would trust a dog everytime over a TSA agent doing a patdown. What’s more is a few dogs could quickly check every passenger passing through security, not just the random one out of 50, or whatever it is with the current policy.

Profile is correct and all these people including Hannity and Oreily, as much as I hate to use them as examples in this, need to stop yelling over each other so we can have the discussion. I understand the need to keep guests on topic but this ‘talking over’ is rude and in this case the man asked Ann a direct question and then refused to allow her to answer it. I have to agree with Ann on this one. One, I really didn’t see any meltdown from her just frustration. What really bothers me is we are treating law abiding travelers like criminals. Everyone is suspect so we do full body “pat downs” on people who have probably never experienced such an experience to themselves but have seen it numerous times on “COPS” when someone is arrested. Surely there must be a better way. Common sense has gone out the window and people are being subjected to extreme intrusions by the Government in the guise of security. Slowly they are taking away more and more freedoms under the auspice of security or emergencies. It makes me sick to see an 80 year old woman with a walker being patted down by the TSA in full view of all the other passengers. What message does this send to our youth, let alone the rest of the world. And again, there always seems to be exceptions to the rules for some people, like politicians, pilots, and probably coming soon SEIU members, etc. I don’t buy this program probably because it is being sold by the same dolts who brought us Obamacare, stimulus, TARP, and Freddie and Fannie.

This went far beyond an individual merely being rude.

This Junior Johnson is a trained communicator. He may be a small one, but this little Johnson, what he did he ultimately only did to himself and can only be viewed as being deliberately insulting and belittling. There is no other way of looking at it without compromising principle, truth and clarity . . . Call it what you want; but despite his efforts, he was quite limp in his overall effect as he lost great amounts of credibility here.

And then, the icing on the cake: He was smirking and smiling at the end like a little boy that just peeked in his neighbor’s window and saw a naked lady. It was quite fitting for the subject matter. It was almost as if he wanted Coulter to be scanned, to be looked at, as if perhaps he was imagining it himself right there on Hannity’s show. But Junior Johnson, he obviously got quite a rise from what he was doing; he was quite proud that he attempted to embarrass Coulter, to dress her down. It’s amazing how the ego can make one seem so much larger to the self than what reality is.

He should be fired, but not for what he said, or how many times he interrupted Coulter, but for pleasuring himself on national television.

I don‘t listen to Sean Hannity’s radio program anymore as he does exactly what this jerk does, he talks over people who he doesn’t agree with with a preprepared canned response that he uses over and over and over. In the NY area we have choices such as Limbaugh, Dobbs and another host named Steve Malzberg who is on the same time as Hannity. At least these three guys allow their guest and callers to make a valid point without being interrupted, talked over or dumped and laughed at.

Hannity couldn’t control this guy as he was the liberal version of Hannity. Freaking phoney corporate “TOOL” !

Sara, I agree. I was so disappointed in Sean because he did not control his guests. I even tried to email him last night. However it immediately bounced back because of a full mailbox. It may be that many people were turned off by the exchange. I think that thing that got me the most was the little sick grin Peter Johnson had plastered on his face at the end. I lost all respect for him and a lot of respect for Sean Hannity. We are intelligent viewers and deserve better.

There is a solution to the security problem but government monoply will not allow for a solution. The solution is to use several different types of screening to find the one that works best and passengers like the best. TSA and legislators such as Senator McCaskill will not allow this and are strongly in favor of the TSA “love pats”. I bet Hugh Hefner would like them too. What is being done about the once used anal cavity bomb or potential ****** bomb. We are leaving ourselves wide open to these kinds of explosive devices and experts say that the scanners will not find certain plastic bombs. These TSA “love pats” may be OK for some adults but not for all a adults, and certainly not children. Israel has a tried and proven method that works for all types of bombs but TSA poo poo’s that method as unworkable. Israel has been using this method for 30 years under the worst possible conditions and it works perfectly. “Government is the problem, not the answer “,(Ronald Reagan).

Hannity/O. Reilly debating technique number 1: interupt and shout down anyone you are “interviewing” if they disagree with you. The false outrage at this is only because Coulter was on the receiving end, not because it’s rude. It’s the FOX concept of a “fair and balanced” interview and should surprise no one here.

It was disgraceful, Hannity just sat there and did nothing on HIS show! Johnson was probably one of the rudest guests I have ever seen on any show. Okay one interruption fine, but then when a guest complains and it continues the interruptor needs to stop and the host needs to put a stop to it. Never been a fan of Coulter and not much of a Hannity fan but I leave it on just in case I hear something interesting. Sean is a “nang naaa”, although he does express common sense; worst off I have been charged many times as a fan of his which I am not. Common sense thoughts get expressed and you are immediately stereotyped.

Coulter is as tough as she presents herself she should go public and tell Hannity she will not appear again until he apologizes for not stepping in, admitting he was wrong letting HIS show get out of control with a rude guest.

Wow. Ann Coulter is allowed to be asked a question of substance that requires an answer of substance and she hides behind fake outrage over being interrupted, as though she hasn’t done that before. As Johnson pointed out, the system in place has nothing to do with concern over being PC to Muslims. It is the system that has been deemed to work best. Johnson provides facts, while Coulter lies. She talks about nuns and children being groped but provides no data to show that this is even occurring. She claims a report about radiation, and claims it is from Hopkins, but I cannot find such a report. Meanwhile, Johnson’s claim about the testimony is verifiable on the web. While he did talk over her, it was because she continued to blame this on liberals and make spurious claims about how they love a police state. Thank goodness more responsible people are tasked with finding real solutions. That she seriously thinks that El Al is the model, given how small their network is compared to AA or United, shows how little she can offer by way of solutions. As for the foreign born issue, had the Army base that allowed the crazed Muslim soldier to shoot multiple people followed that strategy, those people would still be dead. And there are several known operatives in terrorist cells that are US citizens, so that solution is a non-starter.

The problem is that Hannity brings on a celebrity, Ann Coulter, who knows less than I do about this issue, rather than two experts (Johnson already is one) that can intelligently discuss it. They might as well have brought on a Japanese celebrity who speaks no English. That is how little Coulter could bring to this discussion.

The TSA points to a 9 Circuit 1973 ruling that states that if you have a choice (i.e. to not fly) then it’s legal for the Government to force all that fly to be searched (which of course goes against what the IV amendment states) and prohibit anyone who objects to the search from doing business with a regulated airline (which all have to be by law).

We are at the same cross roads, using the same tactics. We have a federal required regulation of a private company and industry that based on that the government can now require another regulation. Anyone say health care all over again? If these courts continue to make rulings based on case law, we will not have any freedoms. They obviously know they are on thin ice when they make statements such as this:

” 49 There is an obvious danger, nonetheless, that the screening of passengers and their carry-on luggage for weapons and explosives will be subverted into a general search for evidence of crime.43 If this occurs, the courts will exclude the evidence obtained.44 Appellant does not argue that airport searches are currently being used as a subterfuge for the prohibited “general search.”To pass constitutional muster, an administrative search must meet the Fourth Amendment’s standard of reasonableness. “Unfortunately, there can be no ready test for determining reasonableness other than by balancing the need to search against the invasion which the search entails.” Camara v. Municipal Court, supra, 387 U.S. at 536-537, 87 S.Ct. at 1735.”

We the people have allowed the Constitution to be subverted in order to “feel safe” and for “security”. Can anyone remember what one of the founders said to this? Anyone, Anyone, Anyone….

My brother lost this argument to me about the screening when I read the IV amendment and what Benjamin Franklin said. I also reminded him that the current law’s do not allow for children to have even the appearance of being naked (art or otherwise), nor to touch a child that could be consistent with molestation (you never know if the TSA employee is a pedophile). Above all, we are loosing are rights to “it’s not unreasonable“ arguments and ”we need to because of the law” instead of the Constitution first then the law (not the other way around with “how can be circumvent the Constitution). My continued argument is that we should force the Federal Government to meet their Constitutional requirements to secure the border and prevent those that have and would do us harm by declaring war on Islam as their own book states they are to wage war to anyone that is not Islamic and refuses to be Islamic. There is “reasonable” evidence to prove that Islam has and is used to declare war on the United States and is currently committing acts of war against the United States.

It was a joke, frankly… and people tend to keep interrupting like that, when their own argument can’t stand on its own, and they know it won’t.

Maybe Ann‘s wouldn’t have stood up either, but the more he interrupted her, keeping her from being able to speak, the more it gives her weight.

Add to that, you just can’t have that kind of interrupting argument over satellite like that. She had a significant delay in hearing the studio, and her response coming back to the studio which makes what he did even worse.

I like FOX… but my biggest complaint is their seeming inability to control their guess when they do this.

When a network is supposed to be fair and balanced, it is supposed to allow all sides plenty of time to get their points across for US to evaluate, and not this interrupting-shutdown crap that keeps happening.

Families, drive to get together this holiday. You can see some sights along the way. I know it is tough on folks who live cross country, but I can promise you that if more and more folks stopped flying (especially over the holdays) the airlines would take ole Unc on themselves because it would kill them. For ONERUNR6:

I agree completely. This applies to citizens under the U.S. Constitution, though. They seem to be trying to entrap us in to one of 2 arguments. Either they will enforce us to have a U.S. citizenship national ID card, or everyone else on the planet will be considered the same as U.S. citizens with equal rights to our Constitution when they claim its convenience regardless of what country they are from. Consider the DREAM Act and the forbidding of law enforcement from asking for proof of citizenship. We are losing our sovereignty right under our noses to the “U.S. Consitutional rights of the rest of the world” from foreign as well as domestic powers OR we are losing it to socialist-progressive liberals, yes domestic as well as foreign in power, in bills such as card check and cap and tax. Either way, the end result of this is that we submit to their new world order and lose our sovereignty completely. We cannot let this happen.

I actually think Hannity was right to let Ann fend for herself.

Now, the audience needs to be aware of the very short time that people have to make their point on a TV opinion show. They have seconds, and that’s it. So, it is extremely frustrating to have someone interrupt you if you’re pressed for time.

Ann needed to say this, so that even if she didn’t get to say everything she wanted, the audience would be left with the understanding that she wasn’t able to, given the interruptions. Also, she should have said that she will give a more complete answer on her website, so that everything can be said without interruption.

I think she was more frustrated than usual in this interview, and as a result she looked whiny. I know she’s a very bright woman, so I personally don’t read anything into that, other than that she kept getting interrupted in the context of maybe being a little more hormonal than usual.

Sean was right to let her fend for herself. Johnson was wrong to take the cheap TV shot of merely frustrating a guest who can simply write out her complete, uninterrupted thoughts online. Ann was the unfortunate victim of a tactic which attempts to abuse the audience’s unfamiliarity with the nuances of live debate/back-and-forth.

I agree. Although I had often felt Mrs. Coulter was a bit one-tracked, in my now-seeming distant, liberal past, I find more and more I do see her point and agree. In this interview I found myself wishing Mr. Hannity had a ‘Mute’ button ala ‘Around the Horn.’ She herself gave voice to that sentiment at the end.
I was trying to understand her but couldn’t get through Peter Johnson repeating himself and laughing at something. So not only did I miss the joke, I missed most of what she was trying to say.
This passes for Debate? It reminded me of all the excuses I used to give my Dad about why I disregarded O‘reilly as a ’frothing at the mouth attack dog’. Pardons, Mr. O’reilly, as I said.. “liberal past”.

      Fantastic!
For all the heeing and hawing, no one does victimization better than conservatives! Not that Coulter is a true conservative–I doubt she thinks much about anything.

Oh no! Johnson interrupted Coulter’s long and mindless litany of liberal-bashing talking points. Shame on him for insisting that she keep to the question. No one was actually stopping her from talking, but it was clear that she did not have a real answer, so it was easier for her to have a tantrum.

By the way, all of those who accuse Johnson of not being gentlemanly: take a look back on some of the message boards on The Blaze attached to stories on Michelle Obama, or pretty much any female liberal. Truly vile stuff–how convenient is the conservative recourse to chivalry! Edmund Burke would be proud.

Let’s remember too: Coulter is the woman who suggested that 9/11 widows are spoiled, and enjoyed their husband’s deaths because of the payoff (see her book “Godless”).

(I flew international and domestic many times if it matters.) However, I went through these machines twice in the last week and a half, and exactly two days afterwords each time I came down with strong flu like symptoms.

Additionally, why do Americans have to go through this, when the Detroit attack that they always reference and want to prevent wouldn’t have been stopped by this. Not because it was plastic, but because he was flying from overseas. We don’t go through these scanners until we fly locally. Furthermore, in some airports you connect directly to domestic flights, rather than having to go through security again.

Hannity’s incompetence as a host or moderator. He’s one of the worst of the verbal bullies, talking over guests with whom he disagrees, cutting them off, when it appears they’re about to make good points, so it‘s no surprise that he’s unprepared to deal with that kind of incivility. Coulter was just trying to enunciate her standard racial/social profiling approach (to just about everything) so it’s not as though we missed aanything significant.

Just about every one of his guests on the left knows the tactic, too. It’s one more reason for me not to watch Hanity. He’s nothing more than an unquestioning water carrier anyways, and an annoying one at that.

I believe that Peter was not a gentleman, he would not stop talking. I find that Liberals do that a lot, they keep talking and let one else get a word in edgewise.I agree with Ann‘s truth and logic of which Peter’s deplay of thinking what he had to say was more important than what Ann had to say. Peter should go to classes for “how to be a better listener 101” he might learn something.
      Peter was being an IDIOT!!!!!!!

I agree. I was digusted and dismayed by Peters’ constant interruption as Ann attempted to answer. I was also very annoyed by Sean sitting idly by as Peter did this. This is a tactic the left uses all the time. I think both Peter and Sean owe her a public apology!

Sheppard Smith??? You have got to be kidding. I‘m surprised he hasn’t jumped ship by now and gone over to work for MSNBC. He’s more to their taste.

A peace officer has to have good reason to stop and frisk some one on the street not just because you are walking down the street. We people are paying to go some where not to groped @ the Airport. We have put up with a lot of hassles since 9/11. The problem is the Muslim terrorists and we need to end them as the problem before we lose every bit of freedom we have in this country.
