Frustrated Pelosi Demands More Say in Debt Ceiling Negotiations

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelos, D-Calif.

Critics have been happy to hear a lot less of Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) name dominating the political landscape in 2011 as compared to the days between 2006 and 2010. Since going from Speaker of the House to House Minority Leader her position in key political standoffs has diminished, and the Hill reported Saturday that she is not too happy about it.

“House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will demand a seat in the table for the final talks on the national debt limit, putting a strong liberal voice in the room.

Pelosi and House Democrats were left out of the negotiations between President Obama and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) last year that extended nearly all of the Bush tax rates though 2012.

Pelosi didn’t participate in the final high-level talks over fiscal 2011 spending levels either. But now she’s demanding her say at a time when many of her House Democratic colleagues are disappointed in Obama’s level of consultation with their caucus.”

Apparently Rep. Pelosi is unsatisfied with the outcome of April’s continuing funding resolution for the rest of 2011 which featured $38.5 billion in spending cuts. How awful.

The measure passed with GOP and Democrat support, but The Hill asserts that some Democrats only voted for the bill, that they had “almost no part in negotiating,” because they wanted to avert a government shutdown.

Speaker Boehner and GOP leadership needed support from House Democrats in passing the continuing funding resolution after a last-minute withdrawl by conservative Tea Party-affiliated Republicans. Acknowledging this internal friction, Pelosi has gone about “flexing her muscles” to have a say in the mounting debt-cieling talks.

Rep. Pelosi represents a growing number of House Democrats frustrated with the White House, and feel the President has not stood up to Republicans on issues related to taxes and purposed cuts to Medicare.

“Pelosi is the strongest liberal voice in the Democratic leadership. She kept her position as Democratic leader in November after Democrats lost the House in a landslide by promising her caucus’s large liberal wing that she would fight for their priorities. The debt-limit talks are her chance to make good on that pledge.”

In a time when both parties have expressed the need to find a solution on this issue, does it make sense or is it responsible for a representative of an extreme side of the political pendulum to come barging into talks at the last minute?

There needs to be a strong liberal voice in the room?!?!

    Poor Pelosi. Nothing is going her way. I guess she should have worked better with the Republicans a little better during the first two years of Obama,s term.She might have to realize that she may become irrelevant. Would make my day, if she was voted out of her next term. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    I read a different article on the same story. She feels she has power as Boehner needs to dems to pass non-conservative resolutions.

    Queen Nan is right. There are so getting to be so many conservatives in the house that the RINO GOP need the dem votes to pass their resolutions. The RINOs may as well be dems.

    Vote the RINOs out.

    If they have as many exemptions from the debt ceiling as they have in Ms. Pelosi’s Healthcare Fiasco, it won’t be worth a hoot! She should go back to nationalizing the foreskin legislation (wasn’t that from her disctrict?)! She certainly couldn‘t mutilate that issue any worse that our nation’s healthcare industries.

    When the city of San Francisco falls into the ocean does that mean that Pelosi can be removed from office since there will no longer be enough constituents to qualify for a Representative? Not that i wish that upon anyone, however, it appears to be the only way to get her out of office.

    I have come to the conclusion that we do not need elections at this point in our nations history. We need to pause for a redress of grievances. We don;t need elections now.       and that is exactly the reason we are where we are. politicians with nothing to lose. we,ve elevated these people to a celebrity status and now we wonder why we’re not represented anymore. we have given them the idea that we elect them because they are smarter than we are. and i’m talking about both sides. we are convinced that if we vote for this certain politician or that one, everything will be just fine. we care more about ‘charisma’ than we do about anything else. now, i don’t commit crimes, because i have something to lose. my freedom. i don’t cheat and swindle to enrich my oersonal stash, because i have something to lose. my freedom. and yet we elect people to run our lives who have no qualms about being dishonest cheats because they don’t have anything to lose. why should they pay their taxes? they have nothing to lose. why not show what you’re made of to an underaged girl on the internet? they have nothing to lose. but they tell us “ nobody is above the law”. but why are they above the punishment?because we allow it. and that is why we are in the shape we’re in. we have allowed so much corruption by our elected leaders for so long, they take it for granted. it’s another perk to them.so this time around i’ll vote for the guy who says he is bound by the same laws and punishments that we are. i’ll bet i can stay in bed on election day. we’ve lost and there is no going back.

    Ms. Pelosi can’t and/or won‘t even read ’the bills’ until they are passed. What could she possibly add to ANY discussions in Washington…well, except for expensive trips for she, her friends and family, and really expensive catering , flower and furnishing companies……
    The bills she got passed without reading them have proven to be more expensive, limited and harmful than any other bills passed in the history of this country. She wants more input? I think not.

      When she was elected speaker, I listened to her “message.” Then I wrote her a letter and told her that she was the poorest excuse I had ever seen as a role model, as a woman, as a leader, as a politician, as a human being. (And I was being kind!) My opinion has not changed. My opinion has been proven correct.

      Why in the world the Democrats would want a drunk in any position of power is beyond me. I have watched men help her walk the aisles because she could not walk straight on her own. Her liquor bill is outrageous.

Wonder if those real estate transactions they did so well on were due to her husband being on the the board for CBRE, the largest property mgmt company in the country. Probably has nothing to do with CBRE getting a contract Fannie/Freddie to manage foreclosures. It‘s all a coincidence I’m sure.

      They spend 4.6 trillion dollars in a year when they only take in 2.6 trillion in taxes and to “slash” the budget they take it down by 38.5 billion. If we make 1 trillion equal 1 thousand, that would be like spending 4,600 dollars when you only have 2,600; then to make it better, next time you spend $38.50 less. That $38.50 is a drop in the bucket and this level of spending cuts is a joke.

      After looking at the home page picture of Nancy Pants and B.O. – is she smiling (it looks like a smile…maybe not) do to a “thrill” up her own leg.

      After the 2012 election is all said and done…the very FIRST thing that needs to be done is….conduct a complete and thorough disinfectant job on the “peoples house” – Congress and the “people’s White House”…..yuck!
