Full-Blown Riots Erupt as Occupy Oakland Gets Out of Control Overnight

We’ve already brought you some pictures and video from the Occupy Oakland eviction last night, but this morning it seems things were much worse than previously expected. How much worse? Apparently the crowed erupted in riots and police used rubber bullets on the crowd.

Intrepid blogger Zombie put together a collage of videos and pictures that seem to capture the full chaos of what happened. Here’s how he describes it in his piece, “Rioting in Downtown Oakland as Occupiers Clash with Police:”

What we know so far: After the Occupy Oakland encampment was torn down early Tuesday morning by police, the ousted protesters reconvened outside the Oakland Library on Tuesday afternoon and voted to attempt a re-occupation of the same plaza from which they had just been evicted. Summoned by waves of emergency tweets and emails, fresh recruits joined the evicted Occupiers and early this evening once again marched on downtown Oakland, intending to reclaim Frank Ogawa Plaza.

But the Oakland Police were of course monitoring all this, and along with many other local police departments they were waiting for the protesters’ invasion. After an hours-long standoff at 14th and Broadway, interrupted by several confrontations and arrests, everything started to turn violent some time after 9:30pm.

This is what resulted. (CONTENT WARNING for language on the videos.)

The cops initially gave the protesters a four-minute warning to disperse (which they ignored):

As the police released the tear gas, it sounded like a war zone:

This video claims police were using rubber bullets. If you listen close, it does sound like you can hear projectiles whizzing by. It has not been confirmed that police did, in fact, use rubber bullets. However several protesters have claimed as much. In fact, one person released a Twitter picture showing a 12 gauge shotgun shell and what appears to be a rubber bullet:

Still, it’s unknown if that is the truth or an attempt to portray the police as escalating the situation:

      Ghostguy – Beck’s behavior has been over the top and he does exhibit signs of a mental breakdown. Screaming fits to the point of losing one’s voice, fits of crying, delusions of being a “conduit” for GOD, making claims that your own thoughts are really those of GOD!!! etc. are not good signs, especially that last one!       Well for the GB history buffs, it was not until there was violence during the Vietnam protests that the sentiment of the country feel to the protestors and countless 19 year old Americans lives were saved when we finally pulled out. As for the 50,000 who were killed there blood is on the hands of the military industrial complex which promoted that an most of the conflicts since then. There is no good reason for us to be in Iraq or Afghanistan. And please spare us the we are fighting terrorism garbage. That is nothing more than a talking point to replace the cold war, communist nonsense.

      What never ceases to amuse me is the robotic nature and utter predictability of the left. We all knew these protests would turn ugly (well…all of us except the media and their surrogates apparently) but the stinky OWSers kept trying to bite their tongues and pretend it’s all “peaceful”. I‘m not surprised I completely expected the protesters to get ugly it’s in their natures, they’ve been heavily indoctrinated for years to espouse “revolution” and to hate police and authority…to associate these things with “Americanism” thus…hate America itself. Now for any “conservative” asking for the tea parties to get involved…don’t delude yourself for a second…the marxstream media would have pinned the violence on the tea parties knowing full well it’s the leftists fomenting the violence. This is why the organizers of the OWS protests are constantly trying to entice the tea parties, or paint the OWSers as not being dissimilar to the tea parties.       Folks these tactics are straight out of Saul Alinsky’s book Rules for radicals….The end game is to create as much unrest and chaos as possible to disrupt and distract from the fact that Obama presides over a terrible economy. No sitting President has ever been re-elected with the economic woes facing us currently. So the blame shifting is in full campaign mode now. Much liberal money is pouring into these protests and are being used as political tools to energize the debate and distract from the ever increasing scrutiny over the economy and the bumbling approach that has been taken. They know the window to fundamentally change this country for good will close for a time if BO is not re-elected to a 2nd term. If he is my conclusion is that irreparable harm will be done and it will be in many ways too late for the Country to return to it’s former state. I believe that this is exactly what the globalist elites desire to see happen so that they can begin to establish a more centralized banking system over the world economies. You can see the handwriting on the wall if you do some reading and digging into some of these organizations and their stated goals.

      I’ve seen plenty of demonstrations here in Columbus. In all cases, the people assembled did not block traffic, did not vandalize property, did not riot, did not threaten anyone. And gosh darn it, no rubber bullets or tear gas were used. Go figure…

      This is being reported as if it wasn’t a planned event. Everyone knows this was going to happen. Oaklanders will riot over hot days, cold days, too much traffic, too little traffic, police presence and no police presence, too much food, too little food, school uniforms or no school uniforms. It really doesn’t matter to them. They are an unstable population of people on a hair trigger. Why? Because they are government fed pork. Which means you and I fund a very large percentage of what they get in Oakland. And because it’s all “obama money” it’s free and “I want mine.”

      Everyone KNOWS where this is headed. It was predestined. It was predetermined. It was funded and pumped. It has been packaged and sold. And as we all (also) know, Americans WILL buy absolutely ANY THING. It just depends on how you package it.

      Indeed, the police showed true restraint and gave lawful warning to the protesters; and when the protesters turned violent, they responded with minimal force. As for the protesters, those arrested have broken the law and need to face their day in court as well.

      Police calmly inform protesters they are in violation of the law and must disperse.
      - Protesters respond with cursing and abusive language. Protesters encourage violence against police.

      Police respond after giving sufficient time for protesters to disperse.
      - rubber bullets & tear/smoke canisters – standard equipment & response to mob
      - Protesters cheer when they hear shots & see smoke. They got exactly what they wanted.
      – they got a sound bite drama so they can cry “poor me – those big bad cops are bullies”
      - the protesters don’t want a reasonable, intelligent discussion of issues.
      - I doubt they know anything about whatever they’re protesting.
      - they only parrot ridiculous verbiage. Ask them for details or facts and their answer is more cursing and name calling

      A large percentage of protesters are wearing hoodies and bandanas over heads & faces to conceal their identity.
      - Their “issues” must not be important enough for them to stand up and show who they are.
      - no they’re not wearing them as protection from tear gas or pepper spray
      - if you’ve ever experienced either, you know a bandana just isn’t going to cut it

      As for their chant “whose streets? our streets” I‘ll bet I paid for those streets and they didn’t.

      I’m not a believer in coincidence. Notice the common thread: All of these dates were the month before it all popped off. All fall between winter and early spring.

      By April, 2012, I fully expect this thing to have already popped off.

      The police showed great restraint when they were cut off, surrounded, and out numbered. Al the while have paint and outer objects thrown at them. The OWS idiots are lucky they did not try shooting their way out. I may have. I wish there was a vid showing how they did get out.

      My regret is that one of the police is going to get hurt and then things will escalate faster. This needs to stop. Pull back the police. Warn all citizens to stay away. Then announce that the ‘parks’ will be cleaned at a certain time. Give EVERYONE fair warning.

      Then use some forest fire fighting helicopter gear to drop buckets of water. Do it from a fairly high altitude so that it has time to get atomized and cold before reaching ground level. Then have the helicopter hover about 100ft over the protesters. Nothing provocative. Just hover over the half-drowned rats, letting the prop wash blow the cool, evening air of fall over them. Position police a couple blocks away with nice, warm busses. Rinse. Repeat.

      There is NO need to have a physical confrontation at ground level. There is no reason to put a law abiding citizen or law enforcement official in harms way.

      STARMAN70 has the right idea – no tear gas or rubber bullets – after fair warning, surround them with large numbers of riot police armed with pepper spray and stun guns, don’t let any of them leave, pull a few at a time out of the crowd to be arrested until you get them all, take their masks off and find out who they are, then treat it like a DUI; heavy fine, heavy fine plus short jail, heavy fine plus longer jail then state prison. I wonder if any of them flew in from England.

      @Ghost — same here in AZ, we had several hundred protesters on the weekend of the 15th with only a few arrests; there were enough people with CCPs to make a difference for those who sought to make the matter violent against the citizens.

      Interesting bit of trivia released not long ago was that most of the “protesters” here in AZ, turned out to be bused in from CA.

The crowd was full of real patriotic Americans who prayed, sang the national anthem, and wave America flags. Compare that to the pictures in this article of the “Occupy – whatever” crowd.
